Tonight's game vs. the Padres
Wow, who would've thought that this was going to turn into a pitching dual between two former Cy Young winners? Not I. Zito was pretty accurate today, throwing about 70% of his pitches for strikes. But then again, he was also pitching against the Padres...I think only the Nationals have scored fewer runs. I realized the Padres' offense is a lot like the Giants', except they hit for a little more power and are slower.
I went super early for batting practice and got my first batting practice home run ball! Here are a few things I noticed:
- Where was Lincecum? I saw all the pitchers except for him stretching in the outfield.
- Matt Cain and the rest of the group are slow runners haha. Brian Wilson is the fastest.
- Robb Nen was there, chatting it up with Wilson and giving him some pointers...is he a special assistant with the Giants now?
- I probably saw Omar for the last time in a Giants uniform, he signed my ball.
- Walker and Taschner are the only players who are willing to sign stuff for people.
Oh and Wilson had a perfect 9th for his 30th save. Maybe Nen's pep talk worked? Usually, in a close 2-3 run game, it is normal, no, it is mandatory that Wilson gives up a run or two and allows the tying and winning runs on base and then proceeds to get a groundout or double play. He actually breezed through the hitters tonight, but maybe because it was the bottom of the lineup..and it's the Padres.
I'll try to go to tomorrow's game if I'm not too tired.

Lincecum was at the game today. There were some shots of him in the dugout, but my guess is that he didn’t stretch because of his calf. If you come out of a game on Friday with a sore calf, you’re probably not going to do a lot of stretching on Saturday.

Great call
Great call, Groug. There was one other reason, of course. And that reason was that Nate Schierholtz can play third base.
Did I ever tell you about my plan for Nate to play catcher? Of course, that was back when he was drafted. As a left-handed bat behind the plate he probably would have been in the bigs a couple of years now. :)

If you go again in this series, please give our youngsters some BASERUNNING advice.
Oh, and congratulations on having Omar sign your testicle.

Imagine one of our Gameday threads if Cain was in Peavy’s place and we got shut out by Zito.

Was at the game last night as well. The Giants baserunning choices in this series have been… interesting… but one bright spot was Bowker making a nice cut off in a throw in from Winn. True, it’s a play any competent 1B should make, but hey! At least he made it.
Proud new parent of Mr. Buster Posey... you know, if he signs and stuff.
