You can look for movies in your area at Yahoo! or Fandango.

Ratatouille is on Starz at 8:00 p.m. If you don't have the premium channels, you can watch Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer on IFC. It's not my cup of tea, but some folks seem to like it.

If you're into drone rock, Boris is playing at the Great American Music Hall. If you're into mussy-haired whining, Conor Oberst will be at Bottom of the Hill.

Kevin Nealon is at Cobb's tonight. I didn't know he did stand-up, but he's probably pretty funny live.

You could take a drive to the coast and watch the stage adaptation of The Full Monty.

You have options. If you find yourself watching a Zito/Peavy match-up tonight...I don't think modern science can cure you. But keep fighting. There will be a pill or operation for your kind of sickness some day.

Won't be here, thankfully

I’ll be at the Grizzly game, where my company is throwing a little pregame shindig.

And you should absolutely see Ratatouille. Loved it.

Ratatouille has the most wonderful textures ever in an animated film. Not just the food, but the water, the hair, and the cloth as well. Man, I love that movie.

WRT Kevin Nealon

In an interview with Charlie Rose the other night, Lewis Black says Nealon once gave the best stand-up performance he’d ever seen in his life. He had to go on after Nealon and told the audience to appreciate what just happened and just stood there for five minutes.

in the same vein..

..when I was a kid, Bob Saget was good. I mean, really good. Then he went to Hollywood and made a lot of money, which for him has to be really good, too. Not so much for anyone else, but still.

Bob Saget was pretty awesome in “The Aristocrats”. I saw ads for a Saget roast on Comedy Central and I’ll bet it’s good, but not as good as the Flavor Flav roast; “You like like Idi Amin after the 3-day crack binge on the sun.”

His new HBO special

It came out a few months back, and it was rather humorous. He was back to being filthy, including jokes about several Full House cast members.

by armzdealr on Aug 2, 2008 2:14 PM PDT   0 recs

Prior to the series, I was under the impression that Peavy would be going up against Lincecum. So it seems just as well that we have this mismatch instead – Zito would’ve managed to lose anyway, but if Peavy had been up against Lincecum, we would’ve ended up getting shut out yesterday, most likely.

Also, I got an eye exam earlier today in Rockridge. The name of the optometrist? Reuben Rivera. And that was the WORST DILATION in the history of the game!

by jcb9 on Aug 2, 2008 2:21 PM PDT   0 recs

Let me guess

He initially missed your eyes completely and put the drops in your nose. Then, realizing his mistake, put the drops in your left eye, then missed your other eye and put the drops in your right ear. Then he took five minutes to put the drops in your right eye before they threw him out… of the office.

By count

We’re currently working on 87 innings without a home run. The last Giants home run was hit by Bengie Molina in the fourth inning of the game against the Nationals on July 22. Funnily enough, it was Molina’s second home run of the day and the Giants’ third of the games. Three home runs in four innings, and then none in 87. Crazy.

by jcb9 on Aug 2, 2008 4:56 PM PDT   0 recs

Well, considering what a cavern Petco is (plus that whole Peavy guy), It’s pretty safe to tack on another 18 innings to that current mark, which would make it what, 106? Damn…

By the way

Amidst sharksrog’s truly baffling trivia last night, I thought of a trivia question of my own, more from my era as a fan:

In 1995, the Giants and Reds pulled off an eight-player midseason trade that was most noted for bringing Deion Sanders to the Giants. Who were the other seven players involved in the trade?

by jcb9 on Aug 2, 2008 7:00 PM PDT   0 recs

i have no idea, but

me and the wife have been saying this all day: “That is a great guess, but incorrect!”

Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.

off the top of my head

I remember Darren Lewis and Dave Burba, but that’s about it

by FluLikeSymptoms on Aug 2, 2008 7:04 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Correct

I would be seriously impressed if anyone got all the players who went to the Giants. Two of them barely made the majors, and the most notable aside from Sanders was a middle reliever who had one good year for us.

by jcb9 on Aug 2, 2008 7:05 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Back from putting the kid to bed and nobody's guessed further

So here you go:

To the Giants:
Deion Sanders
Dave McCarty
Scott Service (middle reliever; not to be confused with Scott Servais, a catcher who also played for the Giants in the 90s)
John Roper (minor league starter; a former prospect in the process of fizzling as I recall)
Ricky Pickett (minor league lefty reliever)

To the Reds:
Darren Lewis
Mark Portugal
Dave Burba
