Open Gameday Thread, 8/19

Florida Marlins @ San Francisco Giants

As this thread goes live, I'll be in a bar with a dozen or so of my acolytes. The truest believers, if you will. They'll all stand around dumbfounded, staring at me. "It's Grant," they'll think. "It's actually him!"

They won't expect me to be so good looking, I'm sure. I'll wish that they stop staring.

I'll make a half-hearted attempt at humor in an attempt to break the awkward silence. The joke isn't funny, but everyone will start guffawing with laughter. Some of them will try to pat me on the back. One of them will try to snip a lock of my hair.

You could be there. You could be at Zeke's at 6:00 for the 46th-annual McCovey Chronicles meet-up tonight. It's probably the last one for a while.

When I was a kid, a friend of mine in Albany had neighbors who kept goats in their back yard. If there can be goats in Albany, surely there can be cows in Sacramento.

by bondslegend on Aug 19, 2008 8:18 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ironically

The nickname city of action comes from Riverbank’s past as a party town. Apparently it used to be full of prostitutes and cheap bars. So the city passed an ordinance making it illegal to dance to music past 10pm… a law that is still on the books.

That age is easy – just stick ’em in a Baby Bjorn with a little fuzzy hat, and you can take ’em anywhere for however long you want. I did lots of games when I had just one little one – mostly night ones.

After they’re mobile, it’s all downhill from there. :o)

Even with the same players, how about:

1) Dave Roberts
2) Randy Winn
3) Aaron Rowand
4) Bengie Molina
5) Travis Ishikawa
6) Ryan Rohlinger
7) Ivan Ochoa
8) Emmanuel Burriss

It’s still a pathetic lineup, but at least it doesn’t have Ochoa at the top of the lineup and Winn in the middle.

by jcb9 on Aug 19, 2008 6:39 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don’t know if Ishikawa is ready for the 5 hole just yet. Although it might actually be interesting to put him up in the 3 hole.

At this point in the season, we may as well try as many wacky combinations as possible.
