Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.

I've fallen out of favor with Sickels...

I just don’t think he’s very good.

This:

9) Wendell Fairley, OF, Grade C+
.241/.371/.324 in the Arizona Rookie League. Unimpressive, tools are not turning into skills yet.

It’s very stupid. He’s had all of 150+ AB’s.

I think he’s better with some organizations and weak with others. His contacts within the Giants organization must be limited.

Does he even have contacts? I always assumed that 90% of his PROSPECT EVALUATIONS were just his opinion from looking over stat lines, like we do.

I seriously doubt he talks to anyone in the Giants org.

yeah, you’d think he’d know why Bowker got a bunch of playing time in the big leagues (move to 1b) while Nate didn’t.

Bonds stands alone.

I like that he gives out all this information for free, but yeah, these days he’s not really telling me anything that I couldn’t figure out myself by looking at a player’s statline or reading a few blurbs from BA’s free content.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

Sickels actually has very good contacts within baseball, although I don’t know specifically about the Giants. He lives in Kansas, I believe, so he sees much, much more of prospects who play (or travel) through the midwest. I’m guessing he doesn’t see a lot of baseball on the coasts, which eliminates pretty much all of the Giants’ affiliates.

That being said, I like him a lot and I check his blog daily. I’ve been ordering his book for years, partially for the analysis and partially for his irreverant writing style, which can be quite entertaining. It’s true much of his analysis is stat based, but he certainly doesn’t shy away from discussing specific tools in his write-ups and he is careful to consider performance vs. level, age of the prospect and any specific scouting reports he has received and/or put together.

there’s a disconnect between the Giants evaluators and JS on Noonan’s plate discipline…lol.

Fairley odd parent to Wendell

Where's the disconnect?

Sickels says he has poor plate discipline, and the Giants say he has the best of anyone in the system…the two are not necessarily inconsistent.

The All-Father is now...umm...a Grizzly. But he was a Giant for a while.

you are correct

they are indeed not mutually exclusive.

Henry Sosa #2?

Give me a break. I stopped reading right after I saw that…

I only have a signature because I recognize everyone else by their sigs, not their usernames..

Those were his rankings prior to the year, not as of now. But yeah, his analysis is pretty limited to Giants prospects.
