Ishi-K

Ishi-K is quoted in the Chron (Shea's article tomorrow):

"I'm just maturing as a hitter," said Ishikawa, whose approach is noticeably improved from his first go-round with the Giants. "When I came up two years ago, even though I had some good at-bats, I felt like a deer in the headlights. I just hoped the ball would find the bat."

Interesting and encouraging.  Wouldn't it be fantastic if this guy is really ready???

I don't know about Travis

I like him, but I like Sandoval too, and Pablito is a switch hitter who can rake from both sides of the plate. Unless Sabean is smart enough to trade Molina this offseason, this is going to be a dilemma for even a smart manager, and we have Bruce Bochy.

Brian Sabean's new dad: Firm believer in corporal punishment

by rxmeister on Aug 18, 2008 4:07 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t see what the dilemma is. Sandoval can play 1st against lefties. Ishikawa has never hit them well. And he can also start for Molina once or twice a week. He can still get plenty of playing time platooning at 1st, and backing up Molina at C.

I’d be surprised if there was an actual market in the winter for Molina. He only has 1 year left, and he’s going to be 35 next July. Not to mention he’ll be making a decent amount of money. The potential for his decline is quite high. If he ever gets traded it would be next year during the deadline. But I don’t see that as very likely either, since they’ll probably want to keep him around to “mentor” young Pablito.

General reply to all of the above

All you have to say, generally, is “not interested.” Is that really so hard? This whole contemptuous attitude toward people who simply want to share what they feel is very important information is really not very flattering. Just say “not interested.” If they refuse to go away, then you can get a little rude.

What they are “selling” is free. They get no benefit from it. They feel that it is in your best interest. If you had what you felt was a way to make everyone happy and/or stop all the fighting on the planet, would you keep it to yourself or would you want to share this method? I would hope that you would want to share.

This whole “don’t come to my house to try and sell me anything” attitude strikes me as a little off. Your doorbell is there for a reason. That reason is so that somebody (regardless of whether you know them or not) can ask you for some of your time. Asking you for your time is not rude, no matter the reason. If you think so, then quite frankly you have a rather too high opinion of your importance. “How dare they ask me for some of my time? Don’t they realize how ridiculous what they are trying to tell me is?”

Just to expound upon the previous point, this is the way you are coming across: ‘Solicitor’ – “Excuse me, sir/madam, may I have a minute of your time?” You – “HOW DARE YOU?”

Your doorbell is there for a reason.

Yes. It is there for people whom I invite to visit me (explicitly or implicity) to let me know that they are there. It is also for people who may need my help.

It is not a means by which to deliver me an unsolicited message, which is exactly what they are trying to do. If I wanted to hear their message, I would stop one of them on the side of the street as they walked by.

It’s old-fashioned SPAM – no different than sending me an email I didn’t ask for. My email inbox is not for people to send me messages about all the great things they want to show me – it is for me to communicate with those I choose.

Yes. It is there for people whom I invite to visit me (explicitly or implicity) to let me know that they are there. It is also for people who may need my help.

Also for people who may wish to help you. If you lost your wallet and someone rang your doorbell to return it, I doubt you would consider that rude. That is closer to what those who try to offer their “good news” to you by ringing your doorbell do than door to door salesmen. Just because you don’t value their help does not mean it is rude for them to offer it.

I’m wondering, do you consider commercials rude? They are essentially the same thing as you are complaining about.

I’m okay with rudeness at that point. Because it’s at that point that the person who has rung your doorbell became rude.

But you should give them the chance to walk away.

My preferred method at that point is usually saying “Sorry, not interested” again and closing the door regardless of whether the other person wants to continue or not.

But you should give them the chance to walk away.

They have that chance. It is when they walk up my driveway contemplating “Should I impose on this person whom I do not know in order to further my own personal aspirations?”

A respectful person would realize “No, I should not” and walk away.

To be honest, I’m not typically rude because I’m not a rude person – but I’ve had a few persistent motherfuckers over the years. It’s not just religions either – it’s anyone who comes to my door soliciting anything (unless it’s a hot chick, which it never seems to be).

I’ve also found that if you aren’t firm – they take that as a sign of interest and won’t let you go. You’ve almost got to be rude to get them to go away.

And just because I disagree with you does not mean I am deluding myself.

I hope to one day live in a country where people don’t feel compelled to do things for me.

That would be a very horrible place.

You want to do something for me? Mow my lawn or wash my car.

Many of them will do this for you. Particularly the ones I know best. And, no, it’s not just to get into your good graces. My wife, who is already in their evil clutches, just took advantage of service provided by people who go door to door being rude. Nothing was expected of us in return.

Lots of people have beliefs that shouldn’t be acted upon. Atheists should picked churches, white supremacists shouldn’t hold lynchings, Jehovah’s Witnesses should stay the hell off my property.

And yes, that is correct, it is rude to ring a person’s doorbell to offer them something, unless you have a good reason to believe that they are interested in what you have to offer. Good reasons like delivering a package, returning a lost wallet, or handing over some mis-delivered mail. “I believe that your immortal soul is in danger” isn’t a good reason, it’s a self-serving reason, because it’s based entirely on the ringer’s belief system with no attempt to objectively consider the home-owner’s point of view.

And yes, that is correct, it is rude to ring a person’s doorbell to offer them something,

I have no patience for proselytizers, but the idea that you’re not allowed to try to speak to someone at their front door is a competely bizarre vision of privacy and community.

So… when are you coming to my door, Natto? You know, I put that doorbell in for a reason. It’s there so I know when you’re outside my house, trying to talk to me.

Okay

Yeah, sorry for starting all of that up there. I usually let things like that go; especially here. But I guess I was just in the wrong mood to let contempt for good people who do absolutely no harm to anybody go unchallenged.

Again, sorry for bringing starting all of that.
