New Here

Star-divide

I've been reading this blog for a while, but have been reluctant to post since it seems like a very "inside" group. Anyways, if there is anything I should know, please let me know. I go to the University of Oregon, but I grew up in the bay area, so if you want to take any shots at Oregon, feel free but I will defend full-heartedly. Thanks, and go Ducks, Giants, 49ers, Warriors, and Sharks!

My family loved that kind of beaver. But they’re hard to catch in their damn damns and all, so we didn’t get to have beaver night as often as we would have liked.

I grew up in an OSU Beaver-loving household as well

Back when they had the nice beaver, not the mean beaver.

Then I got to the age where I liked that other kind of beaver, and I ended up marrying a woman whose last name is Beaver, so I guess I’m kind of a beaverholic.

I think a good rule of thumb is that we’re not an “inside” group so much as we just don’t tolerate dicks.

So, you know, don’t be a dick. Don’t be offended when somebody doesn’t agree with you… it’s the internet… it happens. And have a good time.

Personally, I’m old and can’t help it, so I capitalize and punctuate and try to write coherently and stuff.

I do think it is slightly-but-undeniably harder to read anything that’s not “100% correct,” and thus I’m a lot more likely to skip over such posts. But maybe that’s just because I’m old.

Dude…have you ever been to Oregon. It’s called weather! I know that’s a foreign term down here in California.

In case you’re asking…and I know you’re not, but the Fog Bowl was the shizzzz-nit.

Welcome

You obviously have the right to whatever political beliefs and opinions you possess, but we aim to avoid the subject here as much as possible.

Other than that, I’d just say enjoy wasting hours at work/school/wherever joining us as we bitch incessantly about this silly baseball team.

BRAVO GROUG

I was wondering how long it would take someone to figure it out. I’m actually just changing my name. On every message board, I always use KingofDucks or KingofDucks1987. I used 25, thinking that it would only apply to McC. But now that I know that it goes for all of them, I changed it. I mainly wrote this post to see how people would respond to a Duck fan.

If I’m not well liked, I’m sorry to hear that, but I still plan on posting and maybe I’ll be better liked. I was curious how you guys would treat a new member, and you guys were very cordial, until you realized I’d been here before.

Maybe I’m just stupid or ignorant, because I don’t know from college sports (hell, my alma mater’s closest thing to sports was the Anarchist Frisbee Club), but is there some special reason why we would react differently to an Oregon fan than to anyone else? Is the University of Oregon more hated than Hitler, Pol Pot, and Shane Victorino put together and I just didn’t notice?

Do not get.

Pac 10 teams such as Stanford and Cal in the area=OMG RIVALRY? Though I only had one idiot Stanford fan giving me shit at the Oregon/Stanford game last year. He looked like I could snap him in half and I told him as such and he sat back down. Plus the fact that the Ducks had a big lead over the Cardinal at that point helped my cause to get Toothpick McDoucheface to STFU.

Think about it this way...

If the dude came in here and started spewing this…

“OMG Pete Carrol and USC are the bestest eva
or better yet,
“OMG Ty Willingham and the Fuskies are teh hotnessssssssss!!!!!!”

Wouldn’t you say he lacks some common sense and just a wee bit of credibility?!?

For the record, I’m not an alumni of Oregon either. My college sucked at sports, but I was born/raised in that great state north of us and have been/will always be a fan.

Omar...I'm done with you. Hello Darren Ford! Come to papa.

If he had come here and started saying that, I would probably not think anything, ‘cause I don’t know who either of those guys are!

Actually, I did go to one college that had sports, come to think of it: DVC. But all I knew of their sports teams while I was there was that, in the school paper, someone wrote a letter to the editor demanding the school change from being the Vikings, because that means rape and pillage. I was only there for three semesters, anyway.

at lot of people have some animosity towards the Ducks because of Phil Knight, Nike, and the seemingly endless stream of cash that the U of O athletic department has access to. I’m technically a student-athlete at the U of O, but it’s getting paid to play in the marching/pep band, so that kind of shows how much the athletic department can deal with. Oregon is one of only two free standing athletic departments in the country (i forget the second), that does not receive anything from the school itself. It functions like a business.

I support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

by Takimoto on Aug 15, 2008 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t see that as a bad thing. Phil Knight also gives a lot of dough to Stanford as he got a degree from them as well.

There is a LOT of jealousy towards Oregon

Oregon gets as much money put into their program as anyone in the country and a lot of people bash them for it. I don’t see it as a bad thing, but we get plenty of flack for it.

So one university has a ridiculously wealthy benefactor. OMG they’re such bastards.

If I had the wealth Knight had, I’d sure as hell invest in my alma mater. As well in causes I support and love.
