If my head is full of white hairs by the end of this season.. I blame Brian Wilson. (I'm only 22, dammit!)
How much rope will you give the new kids?
What happens if they play, however, not very well? How much slack do you give these new arrivals? If they play everyday they will get about 150 ABs. At least the organization will be able to evaluate them, as long as they give them a chance to play, and then can make decisions this winter based on their play.
Let em play out the string

You're good whitey, thanks for checking!
Based on my experience , “Pinoy/Pinay” is a positive term and interchangeable with Filipino, no matter who uses it. “Flip” is the one with negative connotations and may be perceived as offensive if used outside the Filipino American community. Maybe the other Pinoys around here can chime in with their thoughts.
Anyway, is Lincecum’s (.5) confirmed at this point? I’ve seen the source article from last year and some Fanposts about it, but all I gleaned was that his grandpa has a Filipino name. Is his mom half? Is his grandpa half? Lol, arrggh! For peace of mind, I think Timmy should just go Tiger Woods and disclose every single bit of heritage he’s got.

Holm
I’m excited about these moves but I’m wondering why they brought up Pablito now instead of in two more weeks when the rosters expanded. Holm has played pretty well in limited opportunities since being called back up and seems to do a great job when paired with Cain.
I forget the ML service rules—does it make a difference that Sandoval is here two weeks before the September 1 roster expansion?
No, my Crazy Crab bobblehead is not for sale.
From the official site
Rohlinger was pressed into service immediately, penciled into Wednesday night’s lineup at third base and hitting second. He would become the 13th rookie to make his Major League debut this season, equaling the most in a year since the franchise moved to San Francisco in 1958. Not so bad
If we don’t sign Posey, we’ve still got Sandoval and an extra top 10 pick next year, no? Aside from the fact that it’s apparently a poor draft class, that could be cool.
¿Julio is tourist in San Francisco? Harper's Bizarre!
It would be the pick between #5 and #6. And we’re likely going to have a top 5 pick anyway. Jim Callis supposedly predicted we will end up with Strasburg because the Padres and Mariners would pass on him? Maybe because of the $. I find that hard to believe though.
isn’t Strasburg local for the Padres? I feel like that would be a pretty bad PR mistake to pass him up.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
lincecum was local for seattle
and they passed on him
¿Julio is tourist in San Francisco? Harper's Bizarre!
Yeah, but look what happened when they did stay local – Matt Bush, Allan Dykstra… local’s not working out too well for them! ;)
In all seriousness, I think they’ll take Strasburg if he gets to them. I mean, his college coach is Tony Gwynn, the Pads have a great relationship with Tony… would be win-win all around. The only reason they wouldn’t is if he’s repped by Boras and the Pads cut payroll to $40m, as rumored. Might not be huge on splashing out for a Boras client when they’re cutting MLB payroll and throwing money around in the Dominican.

Neither is coming off the 40 man
It’d make sense, as jponry suggested, to take GROD off (5 catchers on the 40-man roster is an awful lot). Or they could move Valdez to the 60-day DL to make room, I believe he’s already been out more than 60 days. Speaking of which, anyone heard any updates on Valdez since last week?

Rowand CF
Sandoval C
Ishikawa 1B
Rohlinger 3B
Ochoa SS
I just realized he doesn’t have the .340 OBP he had last week, but it’s not like there are much better options. Rohlinger doesn’t have too good a walk rate to be hitting second, and Ochoa isn’t a better option nor more interesting than Burriss. I guess Ishikawa might be a decent option, but I don’t know if you want his power hitting second.
1. Lineups don’t matter that much.
2. When in doubt, just put your better hitters higher in the lineup.

I will post the link if I can find it. It was one of your own sources and not from Milwaukee this time but Castillo leaving left an immediate void at third and today was supposed to be Sandoval’s scheduled day off, and Ish wouldn’t face a lefty.
Yip Cabbage
So…with Joe Castle gone, I’m assuming Aurilia isn’t going anywhere, because that would only leave Rohlinger to play third…right?
No, my Crazy Crab bobblehead is not for sale.
Velez can play third

then by that definition, technically
a medicine ball with a glove tied to its side can “play” third base as well.

Anyone remember what The Thrill did in his first game vs Ryan and the Astros in Houston?

Ah, a bunny
That’s a good book, though.
There are no bunnies in it.Only 855 games until the end of Zito's contract
I thought it was weird that I was 5 pages from the end and there were no bunnies yet.
Welp, guess I don’t have to finish this one.

OK so while everyone is getting all excited over Jose Castillo getting dumped..
I’m not really sure how much I like the rest of these moves. Sending Bowker down for TI I can see, though I might not agree 100% (I still think Bowker was a bit unlucky, and that contributed to his problems to an extent).
However, calling our favorite Giants prospect this year up-Pablo Sandoval-might hurt him more than it’ll help. Sandoval is being called up as the BACKUP catcher, meaning he will NOT get regular ABs. If the amount Molina has played so far is indicative of how much he’ll play for the rest of the season, Pablito will get like, 50 ABs the rest of the year. I’d much rather him get more ABs elsewhere and have Notgardo be our backup, since we all know he can rake (PEDs aside he’s still having a great year substance-free).
Ryan Rohlinger, on the other hand, has had the only good performance he’s ever had in his CAREER at AA this year. Keep in mind that he’s only had 160 ABs down there, and otherwise, he’s been putting up average numbers in the minors at best. While his performance at Dodd, a notorious pitcher’s park, is encouraging, it seems a little too soon for him to be in the majors. Actually, it somewhat reminds me of a guy named John Bowker who had some problems up here..
I only have a signature because I recognize everyone else by their sigs, not their usernames..
I don’t know if that’s fair to say about Rohlinger. His OPS has been above the lgOPS and teamOPS every year of his career but the first. He isn’t a great prospect, but he hasn’t been Bocockian in the minors or anything. And I’d much rather see him get a shot than Jose Castillo.
And I have to think they’ll be giving Pablo significant ABs. I think everyone can see that Bengie needs more rest and he can also play first base.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Yeah, pretty much
I’m happy to see Ishikawa up over Bowker; that’s a positive step. And assuming Sandoval gets to start more than once a week (always iffy with Bochy), that’s fine too.
But I just don’t believe in Rohlinger. I remember watching some spring training game this year and Rohlinger doubled off the wall and Kruk and Kuip were all excited about him, but then I looked him up and I wasn’t all that impressed. Maybe he’ll turn out to be good, but to me he’s probably gonna turn out to be another case of the Giants rushing guys way too fast.
Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com and on it I make jokes about things.
Why are you worried about some guy who’s not even considered a top prospect being rushed to the majors? If he’s good, than awesome we got something we didn’t expect to get. If he sucks than he was what you and many others thought he would be. Either way, he’s going to cheaper and probably better than Rally Killer.
Dee-lightful. I don’t see much in Rohlinger, but he’s an old 24, so yanking him up to the bigs and seeing if he’s got anything won’t be wrecking any really promising learning curve… he was a real longshot either way. Pablo’s probably up a wee bit early, but I doubt it’ll mess him up, and Ish deserves a good look. This team just got a WHOLE lot more watchable.
So I am finally seeing it
And I’m still not sure I believe it.
They are up. But how much will they play? That’s the question.
Only 855 games until the end of Zito's contract
Bochy said that all three will play tomorrow.

I’m really kind of proud of Brian Sabean for most of these moves – Ishikawa had proved he deserved a second look and DFAing Jose Castillo, a scrub amongst scrubs, was a particularly surprising move given Sabes’ traditional lack of understanding replacement level. Calling up Sandoval seems like a mistake if he isn’t starting four times a week and if Bruce Bochy has the final say in that regard he’ll obviously be lucky to start four times the rest of the season, but if the team were to actually have the balls to start sitting Bengie more often in favor of the youth movement or even let Sandoval play third with some regularity just to keep his bat fresh then this would go from surprisingly good to surprisingly awesome.
