How much rope will you give the new kids?

What happens if they play, however, not very well? How much slack do you give these new arrivals? If they play everyday they will get about 150 ABs. At least the organization will be able to evaluate them, as long as they give them a chance to play, and then can make decisions this winter based on their play.

You keep using “pinoy” inappropriately.

by Grant on Aug 13, 2008 3:11 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You're good whitey, thanks for checking!

Based on my experience , “Pinoy/Pinay” is a positive term and interchangeable with Filipino, no matter who uses it. “Flip” is the one with negative connotations and may be perceived as offensive if used outside the Filipino American community. Maybe the other Pinoys around here can chime in with their thoughts.

Anyway, is Lincecum’s (.5) confirmed at this point? I’ve seen the source article from last year and some Fanposts about it, but all I gleaned was that his grandpa has a Filipino name. Is his mom half? Is his grandpa half? Lol, arrggh! For peace of mind, I think Timmy should just go Tiger Woods and disclose every single bit of heritage he’s got.

Holm

I’m excited about these moves but I’m wondering why they brought up Pablito now instead of in two more weeks when the rosters expanded. Holm has played pretty well in limited opportunities since being called back up and seems to do a great job when paired with Cain.

I forget the ML service rules—does it make a difference that Sandoval is here two weeks before the September 1 roster expansion?

From the official site
Rohlinger was pressed into service immediately, penciled into Wednesday night’s lineup at third base and hitting second. He would become the 13th rookie to make his Major League debut this season, equaling the most in a year since the franchise moved to San Francisco in 1958. The 1996 club also featured 13 debuting rookies.

It would be the pick between #5 and #6. And we’re likely going to have a top 5 pick anyway. Jim Callis supposedly predicted we will end up with Strasburg because the Padres and Mariners would pass on him? Maybe because of the $. I find that hard to believe though.

Yeah, but look what happened when they did stay local – Matt Bush, Allan Dykstra… local’s not working out too well for them! ;)

In all seriousness, I think they’ll take Strasburg if he gets to them. I mean, his college coach is Tony Gwynn, the Pads have a great relationship with Tony… would be win-win all around. The only reason they wouldn’t is if he’s repped by Boras and the Pads cut payroll to $40m, as rumored. Might not be huge on splashing out for a Boras client when they’re cutting MLB payroll and throwing money around in the Dominican.

It’d make sense, as jponry suggested, to take GROD off (5 catchers on the 40-man roster is an awful lot). Or they could move Valdez to the 60-day DL to make room, I believe he’s already been out more than 60 days. Speaking of which, anyone heard any updates on Valdez since last week?
