Open Gameday Thread, 8/13
San Francisco Giants at Houston Astros, Aug 13, 2008 5:05 PM PDT
Football season is around the corner, and Niners Nation is going strong. Some of the regulars here moonlight as regulars there. If you can't get enough HowTheyScored, here's your chance. If you absolutely can get enough HowTheyScored...he, uh, doesn't post there.
The analysis is great, and so is the community. Go and register as a Niners Nation user today!
Also, if one or both of your parents did not love you, it's possible that you are a Raiders fan. In that case, please note that there is a support group at Silver and Black Pride.

Niners Nation? Is that some sort of 49ers website?
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
I was going to post there, but if howtheyscored doesn’t know about it, it’s probably not worth it.
Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com and on it I make jokes about things.
Encouraging defectors
Grant appears intent on thinning the McCovey herd….
Well
If you’re looking to “defect”, the Niners are your team.
No, my Crazy Crab bobblehead is not for sale.
Defect is the defining word of the York organization
The Niners are hopeless. The Giants at least have a prayer on any given night.
(Tonight not really being one of those nights.)

Rohlinger tonight!?
Ishi and Sandoval, certainly tomorrow.
I feel refreshed.
Zito notwithstanding.

Numbers according the the official site:
Ishikawa #5
Sandoval #48
Rohlinger #57
Now 5 catchers on the 40-man, how long does that last?
Adopted Giant Brian Wilson: One of the few reasons to watch this year.
Hmm, 5
Molina, Holm, Sandoval, Grod and Notgardo?

Guys that shouldn't be on the 40 man after this season
Vizquel, Aurillia, G-rod, Holm, Alfonzo, Timpner, Yabu – anybody else?
that would be alot of catchers
Assuming Posey gets a ML contract.
Me, agreed.
I’d rather he be traded before next season – less time for him to get hurt or otherwise crash and burn his trade value, such as it is.
YES
I honestly cannot stand him anymore. He can’t hit, he can’t get on base, he grounds in to a ton of double plays and CAN HE PLEASE LEARN TO BLOCK A DAMN BALL? He should be thanking the official scorer for all those “wild pitches” they score.
Dog Days of Summer
Remember the league has now outlawed greenies so a lot of players will be dragging in August and September. Teams with a solid bench should do well down the pennant drive.

I tried to make this as non disgusting as possible while retaining the point..

Giants! Giants! HELP US GOD!
Ughh….The thought of the September and October, when the Giants are out and Basketball hasn’t begun. All that talking and nothing happening, on top of 15 minutes of watching something not happen over and over again in slow motion. The worst two months in the sports year.
Go Rohlinger!

I dont understand everyone’s excitement over Rohlinger. He hit .235 last year in low A. He hit good this year but I’d rather see him sustain this hitting in Triple A. Shoot me, but I kinda wanna see McClain. I know he’s old but I always feel bad for that guy.
HE HIT WELL
also, excitement is Rohlinger is not Jose Castillo.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
The big thing is
his name isn’t Jose Castillo and, unlike McClain, he is young and might have a future in the league.
Giants! Giants! HELP US GOD!
Which is something
That Jose Castillo was utterly failing at.

Advice for RR
Stand at plate with bat on shoulder, no matter what.
That would be a change from mad, hacking, flailing monkeys preceding him at 3B.
I could have said Caribbean Monkeys, but I refrained
Plus, Roos Davis is one of the monkeys.
But not so much David Bell, who slid on his stomach to send us to the series and will therefore always be well loved in this housefhold.

Would think MLB would not have him ump any game his brother is associated with. Possibly a move to AL would be good.

Same time that they killed the idea of NL and AL as independent business entities.

Maybe in the '80s
But with interleague games, umpires all doing both leagues….nah. Sorry, but family members of MLB players should be automatically disqualified.
