I just don’t get it.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

by jponry on Aug 10, 2008 3:32 PM PDT   0 recs

Completely inexcusable. The guy’s visibly gassed and in the middle of the order throwing what I think are his most pitches all season.

That’s exactly when you want to leave a guy in the game.

Not to mention, why would you pitch to Manny Ramirez there?

The core issue is that Cain was left in, though. Any hitter would have teed off of Cain in that AB, and the result would have been worse because there would have been one more runner on base.

CAIN WAS FINE THE DUMB MOVE WAS LETTING HIM PITCH TO A HITTER WHO HAS HIS FUCKING NUMBER.

CAIN WAS NOT FINE HE WAS STRUGGLING DEEPLY WITH HIS CONTROL ALL INNING WHERE HE HADN’T BEEN BEFORE THAT’S NOT A GOOD SIGN THE LAST TIME I CHECKED

Bullshit. Pierre got out quickly. Kemp hit a check swing double that hit the line. Than Ethier was up (should have been walked). It got worse from there.

by Hobbes2d on Aug 10, 2008 3:49 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

walked intentionally that is.

by Hobbes2d on Aug 10, 2008 3:50 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Cain got behind in the count early to almost every batter he faced in the inning. He was making BAD location mistakes the whole time, and made his worst as the inning went on. He was gassed, and visibly so.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

here is what will happen

the giants will send someone in there who will give up two runs. The Giants will then “rally” for two of their own, only to come up short. Cain will get the loss.

by rotorueter on Aug 10, 2008 3:35 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Well I was gonna ask this but then Bochy blew the game for us.

Anyway, Bocock hasn’t played in a game since June 21. Is he hurt? Is he dead? Is he hiding in a basement somewhere? I hadn’t heard anything about him not playing.

Also lol John Bonker.

by BaronVonCurrentEvents on Aug 10, 2008 3:35 PM PDT   0 recs

Bocock is on the DL. He has something wrong with him that the Giants attributed to tobacco use.

by Hobbes2d on Aug 10, 2008 3:36 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

For real? Wasn’t that Chulk last year?

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

by jponry on Aug 10, 2008 3:37 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah this story sounds a lot like Chulk.

by BaronVonCurrentEvents on Aug 10, 2008 3:39 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Exactly like Chulk.

So, uh… how is tobacco still allowed? It seems like something that screws with the circulatory system of athletes should not be a legal substance.

Not that tobacco would be particularly easy to ban… but, shit.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

by howtheyscored on Aug 10, 2008 3:41 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

The Giants should at least ban it as an organization.

by rotorueter on Aug 10, 2008 3:42 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Since it clearly contributes to scary medical stuff, I think the clubs need to take a hard look at this.

are there any specifics?

Bocock out for year

Triple-A shortstop Brian Bocock will miss the remainder of the season due to numbness caused by circulatory damage in his hand, club officials said. Bocock, who hasn’t played since June 21, is taking blood thinners and other medication to restore flow; the club suspects that heavy smokeless tobacco use contributed to the problem.

If the Giants don’t select Bocock to participate in the Arizona Fall League, he would be expected to take part in the club’s instructional camp in October, officials said.

by Hobbes2d on Aug 10, 2008 3:38 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Well shit that’s no good.

by BaronVonCurrentEvents on Aug 10, 2008 3:39 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

He was the next Mike Benjamin anyway. What really pissed me off was how poorly our training staff botched Lowry’s injuries. He has been hurt since 2006 and they wait a whole 2 years to finally do anything about it. Absolutely inexcusable and ridiculous.

by Hobbes2d on Aug 10, 2008 3:40 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Although this makes me wonder if they’ll put Bocock on the 60 day DL to free up roster space if they need it.

because it’s the Giants and they can never do anything that makes sense?
