Taschner letting AGon beat him

= MORON

You know, for a team that talks so much about “savvy”, and “playing the game the right way”, the Giants sure are riddled with stupidity, from Brian Sabean, to Bochy, to the coaches, and to just about all of the players.

It’s like a culture of stupidity, where using an intelligent approach to the game is frowned upon.

And it definitely begins with Sabean.

That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more!

by tobias on Aug 1, 2008 9:23 PM PDT reply actions

Nice observation. Still, Bochy is the person that I feel is most responsible for these losses. I mean, HE BROUGHT IN WALKER!! Walker got lucky this time, but still. WHAT THE FUCK!?

by ololo3 on Aug 1, 2008 9:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Walker has actually been really good against righties this season. They’re hitting .180 of off him.

by robbgin on Aug 1, 2008 9:28 PM PDT reply actions

Pitch count costs Timmy a W once again...

I absolutely hate this modern philosophy of managers that somehow throwing over 100 pitches is going to kill your pitcher. It’s just a number. Every pitcher is different. Lincecum has a history of throwing well over 100 pitches, and not even icing his arm. Why does Bochy have to screw him EVERY TIME? God damn this has been a hard season to watch.

by ololo3 on Aug 1, 2008 9:28 PM PDT reply actions

Umm, wins now mean nothing. We need his arm fresh in three or four years.

by cheno on Aug 1, 2008 9:30 PM PDT up reply actions

There’s that philosophy again. Throwing over 100 pitches and your arms going to have fallen off within the next couple years.

Give me a break.

by ololo3 on Aug 1, 2008 9:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Games today = completely meaningless.

Games in three years = Probably meaningful.

You don’t take unnecessary risks with the centerstones of your franchise.

by cheno on Aug 1, 2008 9:35 PM PDT up reply actions

So, we may as well just rest him the rest of the year, eh? That way, he’s sure not to get injured.

by ololo3 on Aug 1, 2008 9:38 PM PDT up reply actions

I’ve said before that we should try a six man rotation.

by cheno on Aug 1, 2008 9:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Someone’s let Ralph Barbieri hypnotize him.

Adopted Giant: Travis Denker. Good?

by scotterduder on Aug 1, 2008 9:41 PM PDT up reply actions

there has been at least one study that’s shown that pitchers that throw a high number of major league innings (not pitches, innings) are less likely to have long, effective careers. no use taking that risk.

by cornball on Aug 1, 2008 9:41 PM PDT up reply actions

really though

it probably has more to do with conditioning and mechanics, both of which Timmeh has in spades. I don’t think he needs to be “babied” as much as other young pitchers, because he really IS different, but I can’t fault them for taking him out either.

by Viliphied on Aug 1, 2008 10:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Lincecum went well over 100 pitches tonight. No need to bring him back in for more.

by Natto on Aug 1, 2008 9:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Of course, we’re also failing to mention the pathetic, inept, bumbling “offense.” They are the real disaster here. They leave Cain, Lincecum and the bullpen with no margin for error whatsoever.

by El4short on Aug 1, 2008 9:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, that’s a good point. The offense is some kind of wretched.

by ololo3 on Aug 1, 2008 9:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Agreed. Sure, there’s no playoff hope, but what about the morale of your ace pitchers? Doesn’t that mean anything? But like someone said above, this team is riddled with total stupidity.

by El4short on Aug 1, 2008 9:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Lincecum throws 115+ pitches = omg bochy idiot
Lincecum throws less than 115 pitches = omg bochy idiot
Lincecum left in any situation where he gives up runs late in game = omg bochy idiot

not trying to be fun

this team has a legitimate shot at the #1 pick and every time they lay down they get some itch and stand up to scratch it rather than just letting the itch go away.

we will rue all these horrible wins if there turns out to be an Arod at #1 next year.

by Natto on Aug 1, 2008 10:12 PM PDT up reply actions

no, i get it

but i don’t really see this as a joyous victory. i root for them to win every game, but when it comes down to it at the end of a game like this one, i’ll take the loss. if they are close to losing, just lose. if they lead from the start, great.

there is absolutely nothing to be gained from winning game this year. every win takes us further from our goal which is a good team. we don’t know what will be in the draft next year but it has been 16? years since the last once in a generation type hitter. It’s amazing that Seattle got two in a row in such a short span of time. In any case, I’d rather us be the one to get him when he shows up than the Nationals or the Padres or the M’s (again).

by positiveuphemism on Aug 1, 2008 10:22 PM PDT up reply actions

For some reason, I think young guys not trying to win might have more negative long term effects than losing a few spots on the draft order.

by cheno on Aug 1, 2008 10:32 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm not saying don't try to win

I’m saying it’s frustrating when they try to win, come really close to losing, but then don’t lose. see?

I really liked the Expos style the other day. One run down? Don’t try to score! Woohoo. (sarcasm)

But I gotta hand it to them, it worked.

during Cain’s “rough” streak, there was a poster or two insisting that they only saw him as a “third starter” and I and other Cain fans were angered by that and started sarcastically saying that he was a third starter at best and then the rest of the McC just sort of ran with it.
