Maybe the Giants really are going to move toward playing the younger players. The real question is how long this lasts.
I am surprised that they moved Lewis to the 3 hole. Not sure if that is a good place for him, but he is definately better fit for the 3 hole than Winn.
What is your reaction to the supposedly "new look" Giants and how long do you think this will last?

Sabean’s comments yesterday about moving Lewis scared me. He said something about wanting to see Lewis in the middle of the order so they could see him “not worry about getting on base so much.” I don’t want them to mess with his approach.
And Aurilia should be in instead of Castillo. He is infinitely better/Bochy is an idiot.
Bengie Molina: stretching doubles into singles since 1998.
They finally have the answer!
Forget this getting-on-base business. I want more gritty .275/.290 with 20 HRs!

let’s be fair here. It’s one thing to be selective at the plate, and it’s another to continually take called strike threes on pitches right down the middle. Last time I looked, Freddie was second or third in the league at taking called strike threes. I have no problem with Freddie getting more aggressive at the plate, especially with two strikes on him. It’s not like they’ll be telling him to start studying tapes of Pedro Feliz atbats.

Good Gawds now I need my brain scrubbed with a bleach solution to be rid of that image. An Immage were Lewis is strapped into a chair, with his eye lids pried open, head held to look at a screen with 1000’s of hours of Feliz At Bats. All in some deserted warehouse were only threats might he him scream.

+1 on Aurillia
This team is much less fun to watch with Castillo playing instead of Aurilia.
Castillo is still young, and I’m guessing the youth movement includes seeing if he can play a little. Which he can’t, but at least they’re staying true to their word..
I only have a signature because I recognize everyone else by their sigs, not their usernames..
Agreed
Chance of Castillo being the long-term answer at 3B: .00001%
Chance of Aurilia being the long-term answer at 3B: 0.0%
With no malice toward Richie.
The All-Father is now a Giant!
Sabean called all these changes yesterday on the radio. He said they were going to experiment by moving guys in different spots(like Lewis in the 3 hole). Burriss is also going to be getting time at the lead off spot. also it should be noted that Bochy has pretty much been relieved of his line up making duties. Sabean and his crew are going to be “helping” Bochy with the lineup.
Precursor to Bochy being relieved of ALL of his duties at the end of the season, perhaps?
No, my Crazy Crab bobblehead is not for sale.
Not a bad idea.
Replace Bochy with Wotus, shifting Kelly or Flannery to bench coach duties. Heck, we even have Tom Trebelhorn managing Salem-Keizer in his native Oregon. Steve Decker? Still, I think Wotus should have been the original choice for the job.
sadly, yes
Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com and on it I make jokes about things.
That's the problem.
Bochy is a “player’s manager” with little-to-no baseball IQ as far as strategy is concerned. Sounds like Baker, but with a better feel for managing a pitching staff. Youth is not a positive for him—past results and tenure guide his decision making process. Not a secret. He did the same in San Diego.
I’d love to see Bochy fired, but I’m not sure that’s what’s going to happen. More probably it’s Sabes telling the veteran players not to be mad at the manager for benching them, but to be mad at him instead. If anything, Sabean is actually protecting Bochy here. That being said, I believe Sabean will sit down with Bochy after the season and discuss their strategies going forward. If Bochy is not committed to playing the kids next season he will then be fired. The only problem here is that I expect Bochy to say whatever he thinks Sabean will want to hear to keep his job.

Flopping Lewis & Winn
is something I’ve been behind for like 2 months now. C’mon Freddie!
Giants! Giants! HELP US GOD!
but I thought Randy and Bengie were a solid 3-4 combo.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
At least we know
Sabean was telling the truth. This probably should have happened months ago, but I can see the point of trying to play the vets to see if they can build trade value like Durham did by having a nice bounce back year. Too bad the others either sucked too much or were deemed too valuable to trade….
Nice to see that they did what Sabean claimed would happen. Been awhile since that has occurred. Hopefully Bochy is gone next year. Get some younger, newer blood in there who has a clue.
Sabean rocks!!
Not really, but I have adopted him, so I have to stick up for him a little. I was kind of pissed off at him for not making a deadline move, but the more I think about it, the more I don’t mind. Why should he help another team if they won’t give him shit to help the Giants?? Fuck ‘em all!!

I’m not going to annoint him a truthsayer yet (not after one game). I’ve been burned by that before.
I’ll wait a month or two (convenient time frame, eh?), and then make this judement.

Finally
SF finally moved Lewis to a run producing spot in the order. Would prefer Rowand hit 4th and Molina 5th
Hope SF sends Velez back down to play everyday in Fresno. SF then could promote Travis Ishikawa and give him a tryout at 1b.
Or Pablito
From Andrew Baggarly:
If the Giants decide to demote Velez, they might replace him with Double-A catcher/first baseman Pablo Sandoval. The 21-year-old switch-hitter is tearing up the Eastern League. Bochy said his current plan is to play first baseman John Bowker every day, including against left-handers. But that plan could be amended when Sandoval joins the club.
I was pleased with the lineup
This is what we should be doing the day after the trade deadline. I don’t have the numbers to back this up, but I think we’ve seen more player’s first games this season than in all of 2002-2007 put together. Seems like it anyway.
Good to see Freddie in the 3 hole. Strange that a guy whose minor league numbers weren’t great adapted so well to the bigs.
Assuming we pick up a big 1b bat then we’ll just have the black hole at 3B to fill and the Giants will have a contending team with a solid foundation. I think we’ve seen the worst.
Baggarly gives a Q&A on the lineup changes

I like this part
Q: Why does Bruce Bochy keep pulling Tim Lincecum after seven innings and his pitch count over 110?
A: Because it’s the right thing to do. If you don’t understand why, read this. I couldn’t express it any better. Also, Lincecum used the word "jelly" to describe how his legs felt after seven innings Friday. There’s a bad joke about jelly and "preserving" Lincecum somewhere in there, but I’ll spare you. You’re welcome.
Awesome
Now we can all get on with complaining about how crappy and unworthy the young players are.
My boy ain't fat, he's just big boned. Big bat, too.
regrettably true. Turning kids into players isn’t a pretty process, and any 24 year old who hits an 0-20 patch is likely to draw pronouncements more appropriate to disposable diapers than a kid who is still learning. I’ve sad it before and I’ll say it again, Giants fans eat thier young…..

Can we call those people Dodger double agent and begin “extracting” information from them? Pleeeassse!!!

Sounds good. But please keep in mind that if you’re going for fingernail turture, using canned bamboo shoots is about as useless as Joe Castle in an RBI situation.
