No, this is not my rant that Sabean didn't trade Omar for Manny, David Wright, CC Sabathia, AND Evan Longoria.

I was going to drive down to S D to see the G I A N T S - but you know who is pitching...  Let's see, 150 mi RT + 300 mi @ 20 MPG = 15 gal @ $4 / gal + parking + tickets = $200/250 to see a rerun of "The Nibbler strikes for the 43rd time." I can't, I just can't.

$4 a gallon???

Where are you filling up? I need to go there! The lowest I can find is $4.25ish…

According to this cool site http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx $4.25ish would be great…at least in my ‘hood.

I found a cheap shady looking gas station on Clayton Road in Concord with $3.99 a gallon. I was so excited about getting cheap gas that I screamed out my car window as I was flying down the street at 50mph.

Seriously, the crappy gas station right by where I live in Moraga is selling for $4.25 a gallon. There’s a semi-shady (for Moraga) looking place down the road where if you pay cash (or use your debit card), it’s about .30cents cheaper than paying with a credit card. I think it would work out to about $4.15ish right now. Best deal in the neighborhood, especially considering the Chevron across the street is about $4.50 at the moment!

I am from Orinda.

Semi OT but I had two friends that drove away from that Chevron while the pump was still in their car. Maybe they are trying to make up the money they lost on all that gas that sprayed out when my friends drove away. ;)

Usually I go to the Arco around the corner from my house. They’re about 5 to 10 cents cheaper a gallon than the Shell station on the opposite corner of the intersection. Arco is a little more expensive than the crappy ghetto gas station on the other side of town, but if I’m running low on cash money I’ll go there. Arco right now is about $4.10, last I checked. But I’m still on a half a tank from GasCo’s cheapo gas so yay me.

It’s funny that when gas prices get this expensive, I don’t think most people care if it’s gas from Arco, Chevron, Valero, or Pete’s Gas and Bait Shop. I stopped caring, so long as my car continues to run.

Yeah I live right by there. There are actually 2 shady stations really close to each other and they are both 3.99. The Chevron that is literally a stones throw away is about 4.19 I believe. Also, if you ever have to do anything in Pittsburg, get your gas there because it is significantly cheaper. In the 3.90 range.

I live in Pittsburg and there are two fairly cheap stations near me. The aforementioned Arco, and this really ghetto place called USA Gas. USA tends to be a few cents cheaper than Arco.

Also

California has stringent quality standards on the gas to limit emissions and stuff, that adds to a big factor why our gas is more expensive than other states. For this you can thank our environmentalist lobbyists.

Much like how SF’s sanctuary law allowed an illegal immigrant to stay in SF and now a family has to bury their father and two brothers after the gang member that SF allowed to stay shot them in their car because the father had to gall to block their way in the street and didn’t move out of their way fast enough for his tastes.

Call me cynical but basically sanctuary laws are enacted to secure "cheep" labor for huge corporations. Think about it. It the only social laws in the last 10 years that are not quickly over turned by a legions of special interested paid lawyers. Some of those legions are fighting each other enough that is slows down the judge shopping necessary "correct" it. Need a counter example? Look how many time domestic partner laws allowing same sex people right and responsibilities have been over tuned in that time. There is little or no money going into big corporations pockets on the later item.

The cheaper labor thing hits closer to home than most people here would imagine. Roughly 60% of Grant’s posts are done by illegal immigrants allowed to remain here because of santuary laws.

So all those times you’re giving Grant props for something witty, you should actually be thanking Jose, Boris and/or Ping.

Running all over town (and using gas) to have a few pennies a gallon makes less sense when the prices are this high.

I’m heading to all three games this weekend, as any Giant-loving SD resident should. My girlfriend is extremely excited about seeing the SD Chicken tonight. I’m extremely excited about seeing Timmeh tonight. Neither one of use is too eager to see the actual teams play. We theorize that at least one of us is going to be bummed this weekend: “we couldn’t even beat the Padres/Giants??!” I have a feeling Sunday is going to be unbearable. Day game after a night game, Zito pitching AND military day at the park. Maybe I’ll bring a book and some ear plugs…

Plus for the series: Khalil Greene and his ‘gold-glove’ defense are out of the line up. :)
Minus for the series: Khalil Greene’s 2008 Giants-era bat is out of the line up. :(

Cheap gas?

Try Costco.
Of course you have to be a member, but it can be anywhere from 3-10ยข cheaper / gallon.

Ummm, oh yeah, and try it at 6am when they open, otherwise you’ll waste a gallon or two waiting in line!

An excellent suggestion...

But even in my hybrid, I’m sure the gas I use getting there (and general mileage) will outweigh the $1 savings on gas.

Funny story, when I left my last job, they basically asked me to leave a couple days early so they could change network passwords as they were about to start working on some project. My last paid day was Friday, my last day in the office was Tuesday. Through that job, we got a Costco membership, so that Thursday or Friday, my wife and I drove to the semi-nearby Costco in Danville, and loaded up on goods.

Well, as we got to the checkout, we found out those bastards at my last job canceled my Costco membership on my last day in the office! We had to pay the extra $50 or so for a new membership, after loading up our cart with stuff! I’d be madder about that, but I quit on them for a better working opportunity, so who the hell cares? I just wanted to share that story, while we were talking Costco.

Lost my faith

I saw a friend of mine last night – Dodger fan – and he didn’t even give me a hard time. I mean it’s our thing, we always give each other a hard time. He didn’t say a word. Man that really sucks, we’re that bad. I’ve been skipping Zito starts for quite awhile (one word or two? a while or awhile?) I gotta confess, I skipped all of the Dodger series.
