Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Open Gameday Thread, 7/9

San Francisco Giants at New York Mets, Jul 9, 2008 4:10 PM PDT

2008 - Jonathan Sanchez 8-4 18 18 0 0 0 0 107.0 95 47 46 9 50 109 3.87 1.36

Pfft. You call that a strikeout rate, Johan? And a .500 record, really? Double pfffft. Like you're really going to be able to one-hit this robust Giants lineup. Heck, there's no way you can do it, Johan. Omar Vizquel is going to the Hall of Fame, and you think you can make him pop up to the second baseman in the at-bats that he doesn't strike out? You need a course in Gamerology 101*.

* I'm actually just conducting an experiment for my jinx-sci class. Pay no mind. Enjoy the game. Over/under on total runs: four.

TRIVIA

Just used BB-Ref’s PI Tool and it turns out that if you sort hitters by OPS+ (with a minimum of 140 AB’s or more) Vizquel is having the 18th worst offensive season in baseball of ALL TIME.

That’s pretty impressive, but even more impressive that Tony Pena of the Royals is having an even worse season in the same year. What are the odds?
