Giants / Mets Photos - Visual Evidence of Misery
Since I was on the East Coast for vacation for the week, I decided to brave the NY subway and head to last night's game at Shea. Lacking even basic common sense, I decided to shell out the extra bucks for premium seats, assuming that I'd be in prime viewing position for a dominating Lincecum performance. Clearly, I should've known better.
Fortunately, the Mets fans were nice, the atmosphere was electric, and the Jets fans were out in full force (wait, what?).
My pics are at the link below. Enjoy!

I was chatting with a Mets fan friend all during the game and he pointed out Mr. Met in the Jets jersey to me. Was he Mr. Jet, then?

Yup, sorta. They were honoring the previous Jets championship team, the players, threw out the first pitch, etc etc. And the Giants lost.

The Giants are 2-0 in games I’ve been to at Shea – July 4, 1993 and August 27, 2001. Kind of sad I managed to live in New York from 2000-2003 and only made it to one Giants-Mets game, but then, I was a college student living in Manhattan and could barely afford to breathe.
I had a goal to see games at all 30 Major League baseball stadiums before I turn 40 (in 11 1/2 years), but I seem to be moving backwards – I haven’t been to any new stadiums in years, and they keep replacing the ones I’ve already been to – Shea, Yankee Stadium, Veterans Stadium, Olympic Stadium, the Kingdome…not that most of those parks will be missed.

Looking at the 1993 box score, I had no memory of the catcher – Andy Allanson. Looking him up, he played all of 13 games for us, so I’m not surprised. The 2 hits he got in the game I attended were half on his total output as a Giant.

I had great seats for the game too, and was very disappointed since our team decided not to show up. I went tonight as well. I was supposed to go tomorrow, but after watching a rain delay and 18 innings of scoreless baseball, I refuse to spend another penny on them. As for Mets fans, they were nice because their team was winning. If the Giants had won that game, you would have seen them turn into 40,000 assholes. By the way, Matt Cain came around where we were sitting and he was great. He signed autographs for everyone, and wouldn’t leave until every kid had one. The game was literally about to start and he patiently stood there signing for everybody and taking pictures. Great guy. Now pitch better!!

I was just in New York working on a big case, AND I DIDN’T GET TO GO TO ANY OF THE GAMES, DAMN IT.
Then again, judging from the scores, maybe that was for the best.
