Tim Goodman Hates Mike Krukow
Or at least that is sort of what it sounds like. Apparently this moron is a TV critic or something, and he doesn't like the way the TV broadcasts are run....fortunately, most of the comments are letting him know that he is an idiot.

what a complete douche. I love Kruk and Kuip. As it was said in the comments section, this guy must have never listened to another hometown broadcast and seen how bad most crews are. We are truly blessed as Giants fans.

For a TV critic, Goodman is pretty damn good.
However, he’s WAY off the mark on this one.

Yeah, exactly.
I like his TV only stuff – its pretty well and gives me good ideas for new shows, etc.
But man he must never have lived in another city and had to listen to baseball from homer announcers. True, Kruk & Kuip have a bit of that in them, and maybe Goodman’s just bitter because he’s a transplant, but damn it could be a lot worse.

he's obviously never seen either of the WGN (Cubs and White Sox) crews
talk about homers. The Sox guys are the worst. They sit there all game long and say “We need a homer, here.” They’re just retarded.
Kruk and Kuip are the best in the business and all announcing teams are a bit homerific, and these guys are not the worst at all. In fact, they’re the un-homerific to a fault, if you ask me. (as in, the Fukudome is awesome comments all series long against the Cubs.)

This
Tim needs to stick to television, not sports programming.

I also tire of crowd shots
But beyond that I think he’s pretty wrong.
I usually like Goodman too.

yes, this is a legit criticism of the Giants broadcasts
but it isn’t the fault of Kruk or Kuip. It’s the damn cameramen and producers’ fault – He didn’t even mention the Amy G stupidity. But some of the crowd comments are funny and hilarious, especially during those games in which the Giants are getting worked over, which happens somewhat frequently.
But at the same time, the team isn’t selling out. They don’t need to do that during the good years. Showing fans having a good time at the game is a way to say, “hey, come out to the yard.”

I don't really understand the hate for the crowd shots
I’d rather see the fans than watch a baseball player grab his balls twelve times before finally stepping in to the batters box.

I agree that crowd shots are a little over used but everything else I like, pretty much.
I weirdly miss Bip Roberts and his toothy cheesy “Back to you, Kuip”.
And for the love of god, this year there’s no Cammie and in my book, that’s an instant upgrade.

He missed the only thing that really annoys me about Krukow, and that’s him playing with that damn glove during the game.

Goodman is definitely a little down on Kruk, but he also seems to be indicting the whole FSN/CSN/whatever production crew for gratuitous camera shots of things going in the stands, which “compel” Kruk to come up with something to say. You could almost read it as saying that if the camera folks would just stick to playing field, the problem would take care of itself, because - as Goodman says - Kruk really does know the game and is a perfectly capable analyst.

I love Kruk and Kuip... but... we can't find SOME things grating?
They are excellent broadcasters, but I think it is not blasphemy to dislike some of Krukow’s mannerisms. I used to like Joe Garagiola, too, but he eventually became a total caricature of himself, trying to outdo his own down-home schtick week to week. I LIKE Krukow a LOT, but if I never ever ever ever EVER heard him or anyone else say “Grab some pine, Meat,” or “Gamer” ever ever again, that would be nice. I would bet that a lot of us solid fans would feel the same.
As for the shots of fans in the stands, that’s a director’s choice, not the announcers. The Giants own these shows/games, so they want to advertise the “ballpark atmosphere” as fun you can’t get at home. It hurts the broadcasts. It’s not the announcer’s fault.

A Critique of Pure Ignorance
Right, exactly. Unless KnK are operating the cameras themselves or in the control room flipping between monitors, the images we see on the screen have nothing to do with them. I have to wonder if Tim Goodman ever actually looked at how a television program is produced before he made such a dumb critique.

And personally, I think Kruk does a great job with the 'ballpark atmosphere' stuff...
...in as much as the idea is to show how much fun it is at the yard, and Kruk always sounds like he’s having fun.
I would be very sad if I never heard “grab some pine, meat” again.

I realize that Kruk is a bit of a homer
but coming from St. Louis, let me tell you that’s a lot better than what I usually have to listen to. It’s obvious who Kruk wants to win, yes. But he doesn’t let it jade his coverage (i.e. he doesn’t out and out lie in favor of the Giants) and he always offers up praise for the other guys too. So in short, I’m a fan. I wouldn’t want the Giants broadcast crew to change at all, in fact. Perfect just the way it is.

+1
I think you’ve nicely defined the difference between a “good homer” and a “bad homer”. Kruk is clearly enthusiastic about the Giants, but doesn’t openly root for hits or outs (...”c’mon Tyler, we need a strikeout here”). And you’re right in saying that Kruk can appreciate and call attention to excellent play and excellent players on the opposing team. This comes from actually noticing that there is an opposing team.
Finally, you never hear Kruk yelling and screaming over the play-by-play announcer’s call of an exciting play. One of the most annoying things about a “bad homer” is the listener being unable to decipher what’s happening on the field because the homer is yelling things like, “YEAHHHH!!!”, or “GET OUTTA HERE! GET OUTTA HERE!!!”, or “WE’RE GOING!!!1” ...oh.
That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more!

A: The crack of the bat, and KnK.

One thing I'll say about Kruk to refute his homerism
He does homer quite a bit. But he’s very complementary to all the players. He’s not shy at all in his praise of good plays/players on the other team, which I think sorta balances it out.
I will now go eat Hamburgers with my hot coworker. yay.

Someone forgot to consider the target audience...
If this Goodman character is only watching 1 or 2 games a season – I think he’s missing the point. The target audience for Giants broadcasts is not the casual observer, but nutcases like us who will watch or listen to, all or part of 162 games! [bah! I even listen to /watch the spring training games]
The Giants broadcasts do a good job of both entertaining and informing. If you are going to watch ~500 hours of baseball in the course of a season, you want both.

Exactly, the fans sitting on the couch. Marketing—- they are trying to “take you out to the crowd”, show people eating, peanuts, well you know the rest. It’s all marketing and it is part of KnK’s job to entice folks to want to go to a game, but they don’t produce the show, so the content that isn’t the game itself; they have no control over.

Its O.K. Mark you tried. And I still respect you for the effort.
And in your defense there is a lot of announcers now days do not realize they need to alter their method when doing a "team" broadcast as opposed to when the do a "national" or out of market gig. Most try and do the "homer" stuff on the national and you lean to heavily the reverse direction. Unfortunately you pick one of the few announcers in baseball to go off on that has an inkling about the difference between "team" and "National". ( Check out the few broadcasts he does with an anoucer from another team or out of market. They are not great but he cuts a lot of the laugh reel stuff out.)
I would love see Goodman endure Buck’s lil boy. The streets would flow with blood.
Free hint: Funny off topic stuff is part of baseballs culture. Just like the disregard for proper grammar and English.
