My wife, two-year-old and I will be leaving for the ballpark in about an hour. Yay! It’s the first Giants-Dodgers game I’ve been to in several years, and the first my wife has ever been to. All on the day of the great CFL Bulb Riot of Aught-Eight.

Cain’s pitched very well the last couple of times I’ve seen him pitch in person, and the Giants are 3-1 in games I’ve been to the last two years. Hopefully these trends will hold.

I know why he was voted in, I just don’t think he deserves it (yet).

I know most of his runs have been given up in non-save situations, but you know, they count too. Just because he’s a closer doesn’t give him a free pass to give up runs willy-nilly when he’s brought in in non-save situations.

by Hobbes2d on Jul 6, 2008 1:47 PM PDT reply actions

Because Lewis is the better player. Rowand been decent but nothing special. He K’s a lot, and hasn’t really been all that impressive in CF. He seems to have a better rep defensively just because he dives into things.

Lewis gets on base, he’s learned to be a good leadoff hitter and improved his OF defense.

by Hobbes2d on Jul 6, 2008 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Rowand leads the NL in RZR, he’s playing good D. His arm is erratic, but he is legitimately good on D.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

That’s not saying much given who is playing CF in the NL this year.

by Hobbes2d on Jul 6, 2008 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions

...it doesn’t have anything to do with who else plays CF, it has to do with the number of plays within his zone that Rowand makes. And he leads the entire NL in RZR, not just centerfielders.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

by jponry on Jul 6, 2008 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Sorry dude

But you’re just wrong. Just to take one of your examples:

by cakes on Jul 6, 2008 1:55 PM PDT up reply actions

This is the all-star game. It’s not about who’s the better player; it’s about who has the better numbers. Rowand has better numbers while playing a premium defensive position.

my assumption is that jprony is being sarcastic

but it was Cain who did give up a hit to the 8 hole guy (hitting 180) and he does make his own mistakes in the field as well.

I am being sarcastic in general, but this has still not been a very good performance by Cain so far this game.
