I just watched that two weeks ago

Mary Stuart Masterson was so good. So much expression in her eyes.

Lea Thompson, on the other hand, was bland and useless.

somehow I’ve never seen it. It’s waiting on my PC to finally be watched, though. I think I’ve seen all the other 80s teen flicks. At least the ones of note.

I even have a copy of Private School. MmmmmPhoebe.

My wife, two-year-old and I will be leaving for the ballpark in about an hour. Yay! It’s the first Giants-Dodgers game I’ve been to in several years, and the first my wife has ever been to. All on the day of the great CFL Bulb Riot of Aught-Eight.

Cain’s pitched very well the last couple of times I’ve seen him pitch in person, and the Giants are 3-1 in games I’ve been to the last two years. Hopefully these trends will hold.

by sloth11 on Jul 6, 2008 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know why he was voted in, I just don’t think he deserves it (yet).

I know most of his runs have been given up in non-save situations, but you know, they count too. Just because he’s a closer doesn’t give him a free pass to give up runs willy-nilly when he’s brought in in non-save situations.

by Hobbes2d on Jul 6, 2008 1:47 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Because Lewis is the better player. Rowand been decent but nothing special. He K’s a lot, and hasn’t really been all that impressive in CF. He seems to have a better rep defensively just because he dives into things.

Lewis gets on base, he’s learned to be a good leadoff hitter and improved his OF defense.

by Hobbes2d on Jul 6, 2008 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rowand leads the NL in RZR, he’s playing good D. His arm is erratic, but he is legitimately good on D.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

by jponry on Jul 6, 2008 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s not saying much given who is playing CF in the NL this year.

by Hobbes2d on Jul 6, 2008 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

...it doesn’t have anything to do with who else plays CF, it has to do with the number of plays within his zone that Rowand makes. And he leads the entire NL in RZR, not just centerfielders.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

But you’re just wrong. Just to take one of your examples:

Fred: 80 K in 299 AB]

by cakes on Jul 6, 2008 1:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is the all-star game. It’s not about who’s the better player; it’s about who has the better numbers. Rowand has better numbers while playing a premium defensive position.

At what point do I stop watching the Giants lose, which I have seen before, and start watching The Frighteners, which I haven’t seen before?

I’ll wait at least as long as Matt Cain is in the game.

That game sucked

Speed, defense... and an almost fanatical devotion to getting picked off.

The Giants are so good at making you think they’re going to turn the corner and then just completely fucking up

Sloppy D, a plethora of 0-2 hits, horrible situational hitting

Yeah, it sucked.

So many chances. No excuses when you’ve got guys on the bases in scoring position to not move them around. Ugh.

So who could have guessed that out of Sanchez, Zito, and Cain the only one to pitch well against the Dodgers and get a win would be Zito?

YOU BETTER NOT BE STEALING TALENT FROM YOUR ROTATIONMATES BARRY.

Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com and on it I make jokes about things.

We just got back from the ballpark. Ugh. Thoroughly depressing. It was the sort of game where they constantly raise your hopes – the beginnings of big innings OVER AND OVER AGAIN, Cain showing flashes of true dominance, etc. – and then they dash those hopes time and time and time again. And all of it against the Dodgers’ B-team.

Probably the only bright spot was Romo, who looked pretty good. Oh, and I managed to kill a “Let’s Go Dodgers!” chant in my section by asking them if they didn’t have a beach ball to toss around or something. Not the most original taunt, but amazingly, it shut them up instantly. They fail.

Also, a rowdy Giants fan in my section got arrested in the ninth inning. Shades of Giants-Dodgers games at Candlestick! Only then it was more like 2 dozen fans getting arrested.

My son appears to be bad luck at games. The Giants are 1-3 in games he’s been to since he was born two years ago. On the other hand, they’re 2-0 in games I’ve been to without him since his birth. Also, they were letting kids run the bases, but he fell asleep while we were walking over to enter the field. Sad!

Oh, and also, after the game, we were taking Muni Metro back to BART, and some kids set off a firecracker instead the crowded car. I thought the train was blowing up. That was !fun.

Firecracker

Oh fucking lovely.

The game sucked from where I was sitting too. And I lost the cherry off my Ghiradelli Sunday. What a gyp.

And sadly, the other highlight was that Arizona won. Not that I like Arizona, but yay for the Dodgers not moving into first place the day I’m at the ballpark.
