I just watched that two weeks ago
Mary Stuart Masterson was so good. So much expression in her eyes.

somehow I’ve never seen it. It’s waiting on my PC to finally be watched, though. I think I’ve seen all the other 80s teen flicks. At least the ones of note.
I even have a copy of Private School. MmmmmPhoebe.

Vincent: Which one’s Trudi? The one with all the shit in her face?
Lance: No, that’s Jody. That’s my wife.
Even weirder
We could be three games out in a few hours.

My wife, two-year-old and I will be leaving for the ballpark in about an hour. Yay! It’s the first Giants-Dodgers game I’ve been to in several years, and the first my wife has ever been to. All on the day of the great CFL Bulb Riot of Aught-Eight.
Cain’s pitched very well the last couple of times I’ve seen him pitch in person, and the Giants are 3-1 in games I’ve been to the last two years. Hopefully these trends will hold.
The bulb giveaway
May be the most useful thing I’ve ever seen given out at a ballpark

Any chance of one of these “best ting since sliced bread” light bulbs going off in Bochy’s melon, resulting in a Burris start?

matt cain 1 hitter tonight
If my head is full of white hairs by the end of this season.. I blame Brian Wilson. (I'm only 22, dammit!)
because he’ll give up a hit to the first batter and Bochy will be so disgusted he’ll take him out!!
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
The last time I was at a game he pitched, he took a no-hitter into the seventh. Of course, the Giants also managed to lose.
i remember that... sadly.
If my head is full of white hairs by the end of this season.. I blame Brian Wilson. (I'm only 22, dammit!)

Wilson, for real?
Okay.
I’m going to pretend that the voters knew what FIP was and didn’t vote him in based solely on his save totals.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Probably voted him in
Based on how difficult he is to hit in a save situation.
My pictures never show up here, so this is my new Signature
I know why he was voted in, I just don’t think he deserves it (yet).
I know most of his runs have been given up in non-save situations, but you know, they count too. Just because he’s a closer doesn’t give him a free pass to give up runs willy-nilly when he’s brought in in non-save situations.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
that's how you know he's a proven closer
because of his horrible stats in non-save situations…

Molina, c
Rowand, cf
Castillo, 3b

YAY BURRISS!!!

Who would you have put in there instead? Durham and Aurillia’s trade value is increasing. They need to play.
I wouldn’t have minded Aurilia 3b and Bowker 1b but I’m not that angry about protecting Bowker against a LHP.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Under what scenario would they not need to play?
If they’re bad, then they need to increase their trade value.
If they’re good, then they need to play.
I’m just curious what they can do to make you think “Hey, maybe Denker should get a few starts this month.”
Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com and on it I make jokes about things.

That actually was pretty bad. I hate hits on 0-2 counts (or 1-2 if it was 1-2).

Once I saw Molina set up inside, I knew it was trouble. Loney was thinking in, reacting out the whole at-bat.

didn't you hear?
these are permanent! :)
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Because Lewis is the better player. Rowand been decent but nothing special. He K’s a lot, and hasn’t really been all that impressive in CF. He seems to have a better rep defensively just because he dives into things.
Lewis gets on base, he’s learned to be a good leadoff hitter and improved his OF defense.
Rowand leads the NL in RZR, he’s playing good D. His arm is erratic, but he is legitimately good on D.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Sorry dude
But you’re just wrong. Just to take one of your examples:
Rowand: 66 K in 204 AB
Fred: 80 K in 299 AB]
Look, I love the guy too, but Rowand has been a better player at a more valuable position.
Rowand’s position makes him a bit better than Lewis, I think.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
he also leads Lewis
in almost every offensive category, though it’s close.
Also you might say his D is a little better.
gamecast had the first one to Lewis right down broadway
but that one to Durham they had inside. Not sure how accurate it is or how they do it
a Dodger threw it
therefore it was not a strike.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
just a matter of time
that guy has 50 pitches thrown through 2 innings. At this rate, he’ll be lucky to make it through 5
Men on 2nd and 3rd, One out
and Lewis and Durham strike out looking. Cain must have pissed them off.
also how the fuck do you give up a hit to Angel Berroa?
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
well that was Cain’s fault there, what the fuck was he doing?
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
seriously WHAT THE FUCK STOP FUCKING AROUND
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Fucktastic
Don’t make me turn it off now guys, I have nothing else to do.
Without killing anyone
We've won it 3 times
The Giants love extending innings in this manner
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Aurilia's fault
should have left that ball to the 2b – and he should have had Burris’ throw
Pedro Feliz would look great in Dodger Blue.
I've had enough of the cheering.
Break the lightbulbs and stab a random Dodger fan.
That’ll show em.
Without killing anyone
We've won it 3 times
never had that kind of Dodger support at Candlestick
those guys would hide from Giants fans
maybe it’s just time to admit that Cain might not be it.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Yeah all of this is Cain's fault
Not the fact that his defense behind him is made of fail and that the team refuses to hit with RISP when he pitches.
my assumption is that jprony is being sarcastic
but it was Cain who did give up a hit to the 8 hole guy (hitting 180) and he does make his own mistakes in the field as well.
seriously though, it's these innings that kill you
they’re leading off with the 8 hole hitter, who should be an automatic out.
okay, he gets a hit, it’s the majors, that stuff happens, now get the pitcher out
fail
okay, well bear down and minimize the damage
more fail
fuck
So I am sitting in my seat yesterday and about the 4th and 5th inning I started hearing Natto say in a far away sort of way…SHUTOUT. Park Is throwing a SHUTOUT. SHUT OUT SHUT OUT SHUTOUT. It made me smile.
you know, I understand why everyone likes Molina
he’s a gritty, tough team leader type of guy
but his OBP is about 10 points higher than his batting avg and he rarely sees more than 3 pitches per a/b.
With a guy like that as your 7 or 8 hitter, you’re looking for improvement. As your cleanup? UGH
Well, as a catcher and with him as your 7 or 8 hitter, I don’t think anyone would really complain.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
yeah, okay, that's true
I was exaggerating for effect
I agree that he’s a bit overrated, especially by a lot of Giants fans
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
and the Giants front office
same thing for Randy Winn.
How is that guy untouchable? We should be begging teams to take him off of our hands.
Did Sabean really say that Winn is untouchable?
Speed, defense... and an almost fanatical devotion to getting picked off.
3 worst hitters in the lineup coming up for the Dodgers
any chance Cain has an easy 1-2-3 inning?
I think TIm is all jealous of Matt’s commercial. So he is secretly lobbying for the team to give up on Matt’s games.
There is no “i” in “gamer.” But there is one in “Timmay.”

good point
THAT WAS THE WORST INNING OF THE GAME SO FAR
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
It was like watching a car crash between an SUV filled with pig intestines and a Mini filled with manure.
that’s being pretty nice to the car crash, dude.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
at least Cain made him throw 5 pitches prior to striking out
take note, Castillo
no kidding
if Omar does something bad, we just need to be patient and let him work his way out of it.
If a young kid messes up, mr gigantic head forgets his name
maybe Manny would be a bit better
if he actually played once in a while
yeah but Rivera is in a league of his own. I mean… getting caught between 2nd and 3rd is bad but it doesn’t even compare to Rivera.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
And of course, the Giants do what they always do—score to get back in the game, then give it right back again the very next inning
Giants Cove: You'll be a better person for reading
STFD RUSSELL MARTIN
and take your stupid facial hair with you
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
That was a nasty pitch, Martin looked like a clown chasing that. The sideburns mak him look like a clown too.

Once Matt puts it together he will be a once in a generation talent. The question is will he still be a giant when he puts it all together?
I don't think he is that type of player
his control is spotty and he creates too many problems for himself. Sure, his teammates hurt his cause, but even without that he is a 3rd guy in the rotation type of talent.
I think our expectations are too high.
I like how just a few days ago I was like, “I’m so zen about the Giants this year! I don’t get worked up about games!” and here I am now full of rage and anger and ready to punch people in the face.
I guess the zen thing doesn’t apply to Dodgers games.

I don’t know… that was a pretty clutch pop up to shallow right that he hit.

BENGIE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE AN ALL STAR
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
I do like that for all the talk of Omar breaking out of his slump, Burriss has gotten on base as many times in one game as Omar has during his “hot streak”
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
He's also cost the Giants as many runs as Omar Vizquel has in his tenure as a Giant
not that I’m saying Vizquel should start
