minor lines, 7/3/08
AAA: Fresno defeated Tucson 6-3
Fresno: 2B Eugenio Velez: 2 for 4, BB, 2 SB, CS
Fresno: C Eli Whitewide: 3 for 4, 2B
Fresno: LHP Pat Misch: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Whiteside paced the Grizzlies with three of their eleven hits, improving his AVG to .291. Velez also reached base three time and now has a 13/8 SB/CS line in the PCL.
Making his fourth start since his demotion (when Correia came back from the DL), Misch had his best start yet, allowing just one earned run while pounding the strike zone with 57 of 77 pitches for strikes. His PCL ERA remains above 4.50 in eight starts.
AA: Connecticut defeated New Hampshire 4-3
(rallying for three runs in bottom of 8th inning)
Connecticut: 2B Kyle Haines: 3 for 4, 2B, CS
Connecticut: LF Eddy Martinez-Esteve: 2 for 4, 2B, CS
Connecticut: SS Jake Wald: 2 for 3, 2B
New Hampshire: DH Travis Snider: 2 for 4, SO, CS
Connecticut: LHP Ben Snyder: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
Connecticut: RHP Justin Hedrick: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB
Haines, EME and Wald each had multiple hits and each had a double, accounting for seven of the Defenders' ten hits and all three of their XBHs. EME has ten doubles, two more than Haines and Wald (although Wald had three more double while in the PCL). After just two hits in the first four games of the series, Snider, the Blue Jays' top prospect, had his first multi-hit line in a week. He has now hit .274/.354/.448 in 252 AB since being promoted to the Eastern League in late April.
Snyder's second start in the upper minors was better than his first but still less than a quality start. Hedrick allowed the potential tying and winning runs to reach base but still picked up the save.
A+: San Jose defeated Bakersfield 7-6
(scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the 9th inning)
San Jose: 2B Brock Bond: 3 for 5, 2B
San Jose: CF Dom Duggan: 3 for 4, 2B, SO
San Jose: LHP Jesse English: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 K--1 HR
San Jose: RHP Danny Otero: 1.0 IP, 1 B, 1 K
Bakersfield: LHP Casey Kiker: 6.0 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
With three hits each, Bond and Duggan, a couple of role players, neither of whom started the season on the San Jose roster, accounted for half of the Giants' dozen hits, raising their respective Cal League AVGs to .448 and .250.
English, who had allowed just 1 ER and 4 BB over his last three starts combined, had one of his less effective starts, but his ERA remains below 2.50. He has had more K than IP in each of his last four starts. Otero earned his 3rd save. Kiker may be among the Rangers' top ten prospect, but the Giants have had no problem scoring runs against him this year. His season ERA is close to 5.00.
A-: Augusta defeated Charleston 5-4
Augusta: LF Garrett Baker: 1 for 2, 2 BB, SB
Augusta: 3B Andrew Davis: 2 for 4, 2 2B
Augusta: RHP Gib Hobson: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K--1 HR, 1 HB
Augusta: RHP Waldis Joaquin: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 K--1 HR, 1 E
Davis, the lone GreenJacket with multiple hits, hit his 18th and 19th doubles of the season. Baker reached base three times, getting his OBP back above .310.
After three starts with Salem-Keizer to begin the summer, Hobson finally made his full-season debut, which was very successful aside from the solo HR. Joaquin had his second straight appearance with 1 ER in 3.0 IP.
ssA: Salem-Keizer defeated Tri-City 12-5
Salem-Keizer: 2B Ryan Lormand: 1 for 3, 3B, 2 BB
Salem-Keizer: C Trent Kline: 1 for 3, HR, 2 BB
Salem-Keizer: RF Francisco Peguero: 2 for 4, BB, SO, SB
Salem-Keizer: RHP Andrew Reichard: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K--1 HB
Salem-Keizer: RHP Trey Webb: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Three Volcanoes reached base three times each. Among them, Kline connected for his 2nd HR, Lormand extended his hitting streak to nine games, and Peguero made his NWL debut after fifty games with Augusta to start the season.
After three relief appearances to begin the season, as well as six relief appearances a year ago in the AZL, Reichard made his first start as a pro. After three relief appearances in the AZL, Webb, the 26-year-old converted infielder, moved up to the NWL for his fourth pitching appearance.
R: Giants defeated Mariners 9-6
Scottsdale: 1B C.J. Ziegler: 2 for 5, 2 SO
Scottsdale: DH Josh Mazzola: 1 for 3, HR, SF
Scottsdale: RHP Kyle Nicholson: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K--1 HR, 1 WP
Ziegler, the lone Giant with multiple hits, seems to be too good for the AZL with his line of .385/.444/.744 through 39 AB. Mazzolo went deep for his first pro XBH among 19 AB.
Nicholson, a mid-round pick a year ago, made his second pro start.
DSL: Giants lost to White Sox #2 6-3
Dominican: DH Victor Santana: 2 for 3, BB
Dominican: RHP Argenis Sanchez: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K--1 HB
Santana (19.8 y.o) reach base three times, but his OPS remains below .650. Sanchez's (18.8 y.o) sixth start was the shortest of his young career, raisng his ERA up to 3.23, although he still maintains a BAA of .187 and a WHIP that is barely above 1.00.

What kind of stuff does English have? IIRC, he has a pretty nice strikeout rate.
Less arm, more talk. Raisingcain is a GAMER.
Adopted Giant: Henry Sosa
it's nothing vs what he did last year at S-K
..from what I hear, his arsenal is legitimate for a LHP: low-90s FB and a nice slider.
What happened to Peguero that knocked him down a level? I thought he was having a pretty decent year in Augusta.
And when should we expect Ziegler to move up to SK? He is too good for the AZL, IMO.

Peguero
He was hitting .261/.309/.350 after 50 games.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.
Would that demand a demotion, though? It’s not stellar, but not dismal. Plus I know he missed some time with an injury.

If he had put up that line as a SS, he’d be playing in the majors right now. At least AAA!
