Beltre?
According to mlbtraderumors.com the Giants are interested in Adrian Beltre. He's batting .257 with 18 HR's. I wonder what we would want to give up for him and his 13.4 million. The article also said that the Marlins offered Mike Jacobs for Bengie Molina straight up, but Sabean declined it. What do you guys think?
One more note about Jose Castillo: Whenever the guy swings, he's off balnced. He swings and misses and ends up in the other side of the batters box.

Just saw this
Bengie for Jacobs? At first it might seem like a fair swap but it ends up blocking young player with more potential, IMO (Bowker) while opening up a hole at C to be filled by ? Pass on that.
Also didn’t realize Special Agent was under control through 2011. No reason to trade for a marginal prospect in that case.
Beltre? No thanks. However, he did go crazy wild his last contract year and that’s what next year would be. All depends on what they are asking for.

My question is will he be a type A after next season, because then it wold be very much in our interests to go after him- either get to draft picks or resign him.

The Chronicle made it clear just today that the team isn’t interested in Jacobs for Molina, and that the look at Beltre is more of an 09 season kinda thing.

If Beltre came cheap enough I could go for it, but if he would cost us some top prospects then I will pass. He’s listed at 29 years old and could potentially have another flukey huge season next year which could bring the Giants some useful pieces via being a type-a FA or being of high value at next year’s deadline. My gut feeling though is that this is just another unfounded rumor that will never amount to anything and we will see Joe Crede at third next season.
Giants! Giants! HELP US GOD!
I know, right? It seems like he’s been around forever.

ironic comment
At least unintentionally so. Yes, Beltre enetered the league with a false birth certificate. He used that of a 16 year old with the collusion of the Dodgers area scout- when he was only 15, and so not elligble to enter organized baseball. It was quite a doo when it all came out- there was speculation at the time that MLB would void LA’scontrol of Beltre and make him a free agent, but the commish settled for just bitch slapping the bums around a bit.

flukey season = new big dollar contract from the giants
he’s a gamer, so would be compelled to lock him in
that’s weird. I meant to say I like Beltre for prospects less than Crede.
you can't block the Bocock
stealing my thunder
I considered a fanpost but thought a fanshot more appropriate. Guess I was mistaken.
Why give up anything for Mr. Beltre? He won’t be part of the next good Giants team, and we’ll lose prospects in the deal. I have a hard time believing the M’s would just do a salary dump.

Very Intriguing
I say yes to beltre as long as its not for one of our top prospects. I could see Seattle doing a slight salary dump. We definately could use his power especially at 3rd base.
Well
I like Beltre. I see him with way more upside than Crede… and trust me, Crede will be a giant in 09 if we don’t get a 3B. Don’t think so? Wonder why Castilol is “getting a chance” at 2B? I smell a castillo/Frandsen thing at 2B and Burriss at SS. However, I refuse to give up anything past a B prospect for the likes of Beltre, at least then it puts us in a position to receive type A compensation.
Jacobs or Molina? yeah pass. As said further up, opens a larger hole than it plugs. Obligatory joke about plugging holes. Boy my cat has never been the same.
get Marlins involved
Mariners likely want decent prospects for Beltre, as they said that about Ibanez.
So….Benjie to Marlins for prospects; those prospects plus another from us to Seattle for Beltre.
