Players you would like off the team
Which players on the current SF roster would you not mind being traded away or let go of? I know sometimes people get attached to certain players, whether they're a just good player or they just have a very likable sense to them.. or both; but there are also the players that one wouldn't mind being traded away or released. This doesn't necessarily mean you have to hate them or anything, but maybe you just don't see them providing much to the team.
My current list is:
Tyler Walker - not just cause of yesterday, but dude.. he just blows.
Pat Misch - no comment really. nothing special imo.
Eliezer Alfonzo - I didn't even expect him to ever be brought back up again
Jose Castillo - Mr. I-swing-@-everything and error-man
Vinnie Chulk - never really liked him to begin with
Kevin Correia - I don't know, he seems like he could be good at times.. but he reminds me of a Tomko =X
Rich Aurilia - (even though he's been better lately.. haha and I don't want him to play for any other team.. just for him to retire or something.. selfish, i know.)
*I would have Zito on the list.. (might be me just wishing) but I'm hoping he'll get better eventually.. hate to see so much money wasted!
*Sometimes I wish we had a better manager too.. some of Bochy's decisions make me so mad >=(
Hmm I know this is sorta OT but I wish Jeff Kent hadn't left the team. He was my favorite player at the time.. sucks haha.
I'd like to see what some of your guys' lists would be (be honest! we all have opinions), even though I already have an idea of who the favorite of this list would be. =X

Walker has actually been pretty consistent in his second go-round here. Doesn’t mean I won’t get angry at him for blowing a game, but it’s not a parade of constant failure with him. May was a rough month for him, where he allowed 12 runs. He’s allowed 17 runs all season. Aside from that, I like what he’s doing. I actually like the bullpen now that Chulk is out and Sadler and Misch went back to Fresno.
The guys I want to GTFO are the nothing guys who are just filler at this point: Roberts, Durham, Aurilia, Castillo, and to a lesser degree Winn. There are just better options the team has at all the positions save for third. I’m tired of Castillo though, and I don’t know what the team would do at third if they did cut him. Ivan Ochoa? Throwing that out there as a total shot in the dark.

Why Correia?
He’s been pretty good as a starter. And also Walker hasn’t been too terrible. His stats look much worse than he actually did because he had a few collosally bad outings. Other than that, he’s usually been decent (except for last night). I’d just want him gone because he might have some trade value as a reliever, not because I don’t like him.

I also like Correia. He seems to benefit from being in the rotation like Sanchez, though he’s not flourishing the way Jonathan is.

Regardless
He is still pitching pretty well. We are spoiled by cain/sanchez/lincecum – Having a #4 starter with an ERA under 5 isnt really that bad.
Besides, I think his ERA is worse than he is given he has had a few disastrous outings.

Oh yeah I’m totally on board with Correia and not knocking him one bit. Was just setting Jonathan apart for being great.

you're right
Yeah, I thought about it, and you’re right.. I guess Correia deserves a break, I am spoiled from Lince/Cain/Sanchez’s performances. =)

My level of ire is pretty steady
I was at the game last night, and damn if Jose Castillo didn’t do the exact opposite of what i thought he’d do. He’s fine for the rest of the year.
I would like durham and aurelia gone, but only if they bring back something breathing that has at least a shot of helping. Randy i actually want something for.
Walker was really dissapoiting lastnight. So was Romo, but I’ll give him a longer leash (first game in SF, big pressure)
Seeing my boy John Bowker (since my real son is exiled to the abyss) hit a monster Cove shot was so worth it.
Tentatively adopting Dan Ortmeier. And Boom Goes the Dynamite.

I see your perspective on Aurilia, Durham and Winn. But for me Winn is blocking more prospects. Moving him means we can move NAte up which means, we can move EME up (last chance hotshot), and have room to move Sosa up from AA next year to AAA. It seems like the Giants should be able to actually get something for Durham, and he’s not blocking any prospects at the moment (Bochy playing Omar is blocking prospects), so I think that the Giants can bargain hard with Durham, and easy with Winn. If someone wants Richie, I guess they can have him… but I suspect the Front office likes him hanging around and moving up the Giants leader board, and he seems okay with the pinch hitter, sub role.
Bowker and Burriss can see a whole bunch more playing time, even with the players the Giants have. Think Fransden, when Ray was finally benched last year.
Castillo hits doubles.

I thought Romo was pretty good. He made the one mistake to Soto though, and it cost them. Still, Romo should have started that inning. Why Correia was still in the game is a mystery that only the idiot we have in the dugout can probably explain. It would probably be something like, “Correia is a veteran and older than the other guy.” I say “other guy” because Bochy probably doesn’t know his name yet. When he learns it, he’ll call him “Romee” or something stupid like that. By the way, Kruk and Kuip was talking about him pitching carefully to Soto because first base was open. I knew he wasn’t going to do that, because Taschner was warming up and the lefty Edmonds was up next. If he walks Soto, he’s out of the game. Unfortunately, the kid is going to try to get Soto out without thinking of what might be best for the team.

re: Corriea still in.
my guess/hope is Boulder Skull is hoping Comrade Corriea is the staff’s best hope to absorb innings with our risking extra arm damage or needing to bring up an extra reliever.
Of coarse it could the extra “creamer” in my coffee this morning is effecting my brain.

Baron covered Tyler, so I’ll go on with the other guys. Vinnie Chulk isn’t on the team anymore, although now he’s lurking down in Fresno. He wasn’t really that bad. Same for Pat Misch, so that takes care of two of your guys. The switch between Holm and Alfonzo was a bit surprising but not that much of a difference. Correia just came back from an injury and hadn’t pitched in a month, so I’m willing to be patient with him. He hasn’t been terrible too.
As far as who I want to see off the team, I’m going to have to go with Dave Roberts. I like the guy, but he has no logical reason for being on this team, unless he’s willing to retire and become a baserunning coach for the rooks. It still perplexes me to this day as to why he was signed.

Me 2
Bochy’s comments yesterday scare me. He was asked why Vizquel played three days in a row after he literally asked out of the lineup, and Bochy replied, “we’re in the race and we’re going to put the best club out there.” Does he really think Vizquel is better than Burriss or ANYONE right now?? All this comment means is that he’s going to stick with the veterans. This is the first time that I’ve actually believed that when Dave Roberts comes back, he’s going to sit Lewis down, at least part of the time. In fact, I changed my mind about agreeing with this comment. The one guy on the team who should go is Bruce Bochy.

I keep wanting to hate Castillo
but then I look at his numbers, and I just can’t. Even worse, the a-hole goes and makes a brilliant play like he did on Tuesday night. I’m so confused.
I do dislike Vinnie Chulk as a SF Giant. I’m sure he’s a great guy and all, buy any sense of well being I have is completely disapated when he takes the mound. He’s like a poor man’s Jim Brower.
by tyrannoman on Jul 3, 2008 12:32 PM PDT 0 recs
I keep wanting to hate Castillobut then I look at his numbers, and I just can’t.
Look here. Castillo is below average in every single aspect of the game – he’s got below average contact, bellow average on base, below average power, below average defense, below average base-running. When you combine all of that you get one of the worst 3B in the MLB.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

He leads the league in making outs, he might be the worst third baseman in baseball right now, but he’s also the best third baseman our pathetic ballclub has on the roster right now. Leave him alone until they find someone better. Some might argue that Rich Aurilia is still better than Castillo, but Rich needs to go elsewhere at the end of this month.

Eliezer Alfonzo?
I don’t know about everyone else, but having Bengie Molina #2 as a backup catcher doesn’t seem to bad to me. Catchers with pop are always nice.
Players I want off the team:
Anyone over 30.
This includes trading Bengie (who is still hitting a little above his head, though I don’t know how much value we could get out of him anymore)
Rich Aurilia
Ray Durham
Omar Vizquel
Dave Roberts
Tyler Walker
I’m going to cheat a little and put Barry Zito here, too.
Aaron Rowand would be here if it weren’t for the fact that he’s only 30 and I just bought his t-shirt.
Oh, and Keiichi Yabu gets to slide.. he’s only in his second year in the majors, so I’m going to pretend he’s 29, not 39..
I only have a signature because I recognize everyone else by their sigs, not their usernames..

but omar’s awesome! :P lol. he wasn’t on mine cause he’s got such a cool personality, and his defensive plays still hit the highlight reels ;)

Ray Durham and Randy Winn
Natto already covered Roberts.
Ray and Dwight are actually two of my favorite players, but I feel like we could get something for them, maybe. Also we have interesting players to replace them (Denker and Schierholtz).
I’m giving Omar another couple weeks in a platoon role before I’m calling for his retirement.

My dream situation would be he hits well, we trade him for something at the deadline, then he retires. We get something back, he gets to retire a Giant…all good. No chance, of course.

If we trade him, he could do what NFL players do at the end of their career. Sign a one day contract and retire as a Giant. Actually I would have no problem if they traded him and he came back next year with a one year minimum type contract. The condition would be that Bochy wasn’t here and Aurilia would be limited to pinch hitting and occasionally starting against lefties.

you got my intrest
Or put Aurilia in a steel cage match over at third with whomever else is around to absorb those 1450+ innings at third base without needing 3 or 4 roster slots to do it. Thus letting the G men possible carry 3-4 M.I. candidates. If Aurilia loses he is still decent insurance for say 3 of the infield spots incase of melt down.
