Project Prospect's Midseason Top 50 List

I just posted this on my blog, but I don't see it posted here yet.  Project Prospect has put out its Midseason Top 50 Prospect list, and it features Madison Bumgarner at #14, Tim Alderson at #20, and Angel Villalona at #46.  Three prospects in a top 50 list is certainly a welcome sign after years of farm system mediocrity. I’ve always been very high on Bumgarner, but I think Alderson is an over-rank here.  I like Angel at #46.

The list also has Tim Beckham at #18 and Kyle Skipworth at #47, so Buster Posey-- if he had signed-- would be what?  Mid 20s?  And how do you think this list compares to Rotoworld's?

Good stuff

I think your analysis of the Giants’ top three prospects is pretty good, as well as your feeling that Buster Posey would be in the top 25 or so if signed. And yes, it is quite nice to have four Giants prospects who rank in the top 50 of all 30 teams.

In addition to the three named and Posey, Tim Lincecum also was obviously a top 50 prospect virtually from the moment he was drafted. So assuming they sign Posey, which is highly likely by almost anyone’s calculations, they will have added five different top 50 prospects in just 26 months. Particularly given that Lincecum almost certainly ranks in the top five or ten among players drafted the past three years, that is an impressive feat.

...Sharksrog is right to include Tim in this discussion. If this cadre of homegrown players actually pans out, I’m sure we’ll talk about Lincecum’s drafting as the beginning Sabean’s post-Michael Tucker Draft Philosophy era.

Everyone should learn from sharksrog

If you aren’t heaping praise upon this kid, you aren’t a Giants fan. Period. Dry humping aside, the Giants haven’t had a pitcher this phenomenal in decades, and we should all be overwhelmingly loving of Tim.

I mean,

I am genuinely afraid of what will happen when Tim hits the free agent market. If he is not re-signed, I really don’t know what I am going to do with myself. He is my favorite player in baseball by far, and the idea of the Giants low-balling him and having him go to the Red Sox scares the living crap out of me. It has the potential of making me lose interest in baseball altogether.

Sharksrog thinks about Lincecum more than I think about sex.

Alot of experts think that Posey was the best player in the draft, so it would probably depend on the opinion of the person who made this list. He could be up there near Bumgarner.

Rich Porcello?

I know he’s a good prospect and I was hoping the Giants would have drafted him with one of their picks last year, but why is this guy always ranked so high? Is it just me, or does he have a lot more to prove before earning a top 10 ranking?

How about that pitcher we drafted number 1 a couple of years ago, out of the U of Washington? Anybody think he might amount to anything? I notice he hasn’t made it to Conn (AA) yet.

I wonder

Where Pablo Sandoval now ranks as catcher prospects go in the entire league as well as where he fits in the Giants top 10.

1 Bum
2 Angel
3 Tim2
4 Buster
5 Pablo/Sosa

That is my amateur opinion of course
