Barry in the detested Pinstripes?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/24/yankees-eye-barry-bonds-a_n_114867.html
So Hank Steinbrenner, one of five people currently alive who has a chance of being more repugnant than George Steinbrenner, apparently is going to "bring up" the idea of getting Barry Lamar Bonds to play for the Yankees for the stretch drive.
I assume we all pretty much hate the Yankees, but would you rather see BLB get a chance to do something this year in Pinstripes rather than do nothing? Is Hanky illiterate and thus didn't get the Collusion Memo? Has Cashman really not being considering this and needed his owner to "bring up" Barry?
Your thoughts.

I don’t know about the other stuff, but I think at this point I’d actually be relieved to see him playing for any team that doesn’t have Los Angeles in their official names. I don’t really have any good reason to cite except that… well… I miss watching that swing…
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
Yup
I’d add to that list the Red Sox, though. I actually detest them and their dipshit fans far more than I do the Yankees anymore! Oddly enough, I’d have even been okay with him donning the green and yellow of the Fremont A’s!

It's a tough row to hoe?
I really like the way the Red Sox run their organization, but I really hate their douchebag fans.
Neglectful father of David Quinowski
That's pretty true
It’s their fans that ultimately piss me off, but if I have to see that picture of Pabelbon angrily taking a dump on the field after the World Series one more damn time, I swear I’m going to… Well, I’m just going to get angrier and not do anything about it. I hate that damn picture.

To Be Honest
I was in Boston for a week in August before they made their incredible WS run. I got pretty wrapped up in it, and that is a town that takes their baseball very seriously. I can appreciate and respect that. Not to mention that fenway is fucking amazing (and the concessions are cheaper than here, wtf? 5$ beers! ) All teams have their share of douche bag fans (shit, a Giants fan fucking KILLED a Philly fan earlier this season, you can’t get any more douche bag than that).
What I dislike is how the media is so fucking Boston/New York centric. I hate hearing about those two teams all damn fucking day on ESPN as if there aren’t 28 other teams in baseball.

I understand fans in Boston are pretty cool. My wife lived there for however long and absolutely loved the town. She thought most fans at the game were great, but it got obnoxious when people started acting like they were huge fans of the team when they didn’t know anyone beyond Nomar (she lived there a while ago).
My beef is definitely with the media’s overzealous love affair of all things Boston/New York, and the transplanted Red Sox fans who moved to our fair state only to taint my home with their absolute obnoxiousness in all things Red Sox. It would be one thing if it were a few people here, but it seems like half the people I meet are from Boston, and they all want to complain about how you stand for every pitch at Fenway (can’t fit in the seat, dipshit), and you cheer all the time. HEY! If it’s so great in Boston, you pack up your shit, and you go home! GOT IT???

Some of my best friends are black peop…I mean, Red Sox fans.
No seriously my female BFF is a Sox fan and she knows I can’t stand her team. Although she’s not an asshat about it at all, and her fiance has a PITCH TO BARRY shirt. So they’re good people.

But obviously not all transplanted Sox fans piss me off. Just the majority of them. And the bandwagon jumpers, they typically piss me off too.

Understandable. I should have further said that I also hate the media’s dick riding of the SAWKS! It’s also really frustrating that the majority of games televised nationally are either the Sox, Yankees, or Sox and Yankees. I don’t even care that the Giants aren’t there, that’s fine, but fuck me I’d like to see some other teams (Rays, Royals, Orioles, Rangers, Reds, Brewers). Every one of these teams has at least a few reasons to watch and I only get to see them when they’re playing the Giants or A’s.
Fuck this, I’m getting Extra Innings next year.

Has Cashman really not being considering this and needed his owner to “bring up” Barry?
I think that before the season started they figured they were set at DH with some combination of Damon, Giambi and Matsui. With all the injuries and now that they’re in third place and probably a little desperate, they’re looking into other possibilities.
Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com and on it I make jokes about things.
Nobody is Signing Barry
Barry has been blackballed out of baseball, it should be obvious by now. Different teams just bring up his name when asked to make it look like he hasn’t been.
Brian Sabean's new dad: Firm believer in corporal punishment
Why hate the Yankees?
They play in the AL, it’s been a long time since ‘62 and I don’t remember them damaging our playoff chances in the interleague era.
So, will Giambi give Barry his #25?
Fred Lewis can stand under my umbrella.
because of the massive organizational arrogance. Same reason to detest the BoSox (though Red Sox fans are, without a doubt, the most annoying people on earth). With every trade rumor, the Yankees (and the baseball media in general) seem to think the Yanks have a God Given Right to any player they want. All they have to do is take of the contract and ship back two bags of shit in return.
rant over
I’d rather see 29 more Steinbrenners running clubs. At least he wants to win and will pay to make it happen. Contrast with owners who put dreck on the field year after year.

I don’t have a problem with Steinbrenner’s payroll, but I do think it blows goats when he undercuts him GM and managers in the press. At least he gives his team a chance to succeed, compaired with David Glass who throws out bombs directed at his FO while slashing his payroll below thie revenue sharing floor.
I have a problem with any team (or individual)
that thinks that they are above the rules or the laws.
Reminds me of the Bush administration…
I’ve never cared for Steinbrenner’s method. Just outbid everyone else for every superstar player. I always thought that was a load of crap. I also think it’s a load of crap to have a ridiculously low payroll too, which really does cheat the fans of your team. But overspending for high profile players all the time just seems like a load of crap to me, and basically makes you a target for the ire of every other baseball fan out there.
"He called the sh** POOP!" -- Adam Sandler
Agreed
I hate the fact that they can ignore the salary cap, pay the fine, and go about their business of outspending most of the league.
What is this Salary cap you speak of?
This isn’t basketball
Eugeniooooooo!!!!
by FairweatherFan on Jul 25, 2008 1:00 PM PDT up reply actions
It's a soft cap
But there is one. If you go over it, you pay a luxury tax to teams like the Royals, whose owner turns around and invests that extra money into upgrading his house.
"He called the sh** POOP!" -- Adam Sandler
The trouble is...
You will never have 30 Steinbrenner’s. Right now there are only about 5 or 6 owners that could compete financially with the Yankees. And that would really suck, because then you would have all the best players, except the ones that hadn’t reached FA, playing for one of those 5 or 6 teams.
It is very difficult for small market teams to compete as it is right now. It would be next to impossibe in the 5 or 6 Steinbrenner-like owner scenario.
I don’t know, but if anyone has a right to be arrogant it’s probably the team with two titles in the last four years.

well, gee..
that’s kind of like a young Mets fan asking his old Brooklynite grandpa why he’s supposed to hate the Dodgers.
OK, it was all a long time ago and if things were different this might be an SF Seals blog rather than a Giants blog, but the Yankees as compared to the Giants was the kid who stole your wife, moved in next door and then left the windows open so you heard them f**k all night.
Seriously, John McGraw rolls over in his grave when he hears a Giants fan ask why he should hate the Yankees.

We’re supposed to hate the Dodgers right? Won’t that last forever? Shouldn’t it last forever?
I hate the fucking Dodgers.
Ever see that SNL bit with Tracy Morgan as Reggie White?
It was a news bit, where he apologized for making some semi-racist remarks, but then goes on to say, “I’m sorry. Sorry I didn’t get to finish my list. I also hate Samoans. Damn, stinky Samoans.” As he continues, he asks the news anchor, “And what is it they call those tall midgets?”
“You mean, people?”
“Yeah! I hate them too.”
Well, all this talk of grudges and hate just reminds me of that bit. It was funny. Probably a lot funnier if it’s not told by some doofus on his laptop, but if it’s actually viewed on the tele… But whatever.
"He called the sh** POOP!" -- Adam Sandler
Actually, John McGraw wouldn’t give a damn. He would know it is not important to worry yourself with a “rivalry” that has not been relevant in over fifty years. Holding grudges forever for no reason is what they do in Europe. Or the South.

I hate the Yankees more than I hate all the other teams combined.
I love baseball. I hate them because the way they operate is detrimental to the game. I don’t think any other sport could operate as it does, allowing a team to do what the Yankees do, and survive. The Red Sox have obnoxious fans sure, but Yankee fans will give them a run for their money in that category. I hate that he Red Sox have, and do spend a lot of money, but the Yankees have forced Boston into operating that way. It is the only way they can compete in that division.
The Yankees have won 26 WS and most of them were just bought.
I would hate any team that selfishly pursued winning at the expense of the game.

“I hate the Yankees more than I hate all the other teams combined”
with the possible exception of the Dodgers
Yes, but
My hate of the Yankees is not compromised by Barry playing for them. If anything, it provides the opportunity for one of my favorite things… turn a negative into a positive.
If Barry plays for them, there is no chance he’ll be remembered as a Yankee. But the HR’s he gains adds to his stature as a Giant. If anything, a short time in pinstripes will get some die hard Yankee Bonds haters on his side, which can only help leverage the East Coast Media power into Barry’s camp.
Go for it, Steinbrenner. Let BB rock the house.
"[Greg] Vaughn is in a funk so deep, George Clinton wearing a miner's helmet couldn't find him."
- Jim Baker, ESPN.com, May 2002
I don’t care about the Yankees either way. The only time they annoy me is when the media falls all over itself fellating the team, the stadium, Derek Jeter, etc. And the eternal, asinine YANKEESREDSOXOMGWTFBBQ shit on ESPN.
I want to see Barry playing again. Sadly, I don’t think we’d see much of him on an AL East team. And I tired of the media garbage surrounding him when he was here. I just wanted to watch the man play. The media garbage will be even worse if he signs with NYY.
It is to say, I’ll watch.

Brian Sabean's new dad: Firm believer in corporal punishment
If Barry does sign with a team, I’d be rooting for him and not the team, so I don’t really care if the Yankees are the one to sign him.
At this point
I’d even root for the Yankees to go to the World Series and win it all again – for like the 28th frickin’ time – just so Barry could get that World Championship.
I’d never root for the BoSox, Dodgers, or Angels though. And I’d probably curse his name if he played for any of them.
"He called the sh** POOP!" -- Adam Sandler
It’s not happening, but if it did I couldn’t root against Barry no matter what team he signed to play for. I don’t know how I’d feel about his team winning the World Series though. That might sting a little bit.

This is actually my fantasy, cause Barry could fart and the ball would go over that fence. I HATE HATE HATE HATE all of the smug east coast Bonds haters. Barry could hit 20 bombs in Yankee Stadium in 2 months, at 44 years of age! And that would just make me sofa king happy. (My apologies to Mike for hijacking his screen name.)
