Giants future rotation and position players???
Hey guys, I'm new to the site.
I was thinking about what the Giants position players and rotation would look like in the future
Rotation:
Tim Lincecum
Matt Cain
Jonathan Sanchez
TIm Alderson
Madison Bumgarner
Position Players:
Outfield: Fred Lewis, Antoan Richardson, John Bowker
Infield: Buster Posey, Angel Villalona, Eugenio Velez, Emmanuel Burriss, Kevin Frandsen
In my opinion, thats a pretty good team. The only problem is that we don't have enough power, since villalona is the only power bat on that team.

lol she was kidding
A lot of people on the site are REALLY high on Sandoval. You’re right about Posey, but Villalona probably won’t be up in the majors by then. It might take a year or two more; he’s still only 17 and fighting to get by in A-ball.

we know that
Posey’s our starting catcher of the future. Sandoval just seems to know how to hit, which is kind of a revolutionary idea to us Giants fans…

Gillaspie at third.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

Still want Pancho Villalona to oil up his 3b mitt and be prepared to return to the hot corner
by wilriv21 on Jul 23, 2008 4:25 PM PDT 0 recs
A few things...
Villalona wont be in the majors by then, Richardson will never make it to the majors, Velez will be long gone from the majors by then unless he can get that whole ‘doing shit besides running’ down, Bumgarner will probably be close but not quite in the majors by then, and Kevin Frandsen will never be our starting 3rd baseman.
Also, Zito and Rowand are missing from the picture. They’re definitely going to be here as they have 5 and 4 years respectively left on their contracts, and they’re both too expensive to get rid of. I’d put my money on Conor Gillaspie and Nick Noonan to take 3rd and 2nd over Frandsen and Velez. And another thing, we’ll have a shitload of money to spend that we might blow on a big name free agent or two.

Basic assumptions:
a) everyone stays relatively healthy
b) no one is traded or released
c) players remain on team in arb years
d) minor leaguers progress at about 1 level per year pace and don’t flame out (I know, a big assumption)
e) free agent signings only in areas of need.
f) (2008 picks) Posey, Gillaspie, Kieschnick and Crawford are all signed.
g) Many assumptions re Velez and/or that I haven’t thought of yet
h) This projection hasn’t considered the 2nd and below tier talent that the Giants have in the minor league system, only their top 10 or so prospects and the top 4 picks from 2008 draft. Obviously, there are a number of players who can and will make the team within the next 4 seasons, guys like Denker, Bocock, McBryde, Copeland, EME, Culberson, Downs, and a bunch of pitchers, like Snyder, Tanner, English, Joe Martinez, and Pucetas.

I agree with this
but I think Posey could move a lot quicker than that. He’s supposed to be a pretty polished hitter, so shouldn’t he only need a year or so in the minors?

Posey
possibly. He likely will sign a 2009 contract and I assume he’ll start in San Jose next year and depending on how he does, he’ll get promoted to AA during the season. If that happens, he’d definitely be on the fast track. He could possibly be up as soon as the middle of 2010 and take over full time duties by the start of 2011, which is basically what I projected, though I left him off of the 2010 projection..
Also, he’s got the good on defense, so that would definitely help him move up quickly.

If Baseball Mogul has anything to say about it, we’re going to be VERY happy with a Schierholtz, Richardson, Bowker outfield, and Noonan is going to turn out quite well, too.

I wouldn’t count on Richardson (at least I hope he’s not starting). In the infield, I think Downs/Noonan/Denker are all more likely than Velez
Less arm, more talk. Raisingcain is a GAMER.

Really?
You’re actually happy with Antoan Richardson, Manny Burriss, Eugenio Velez and Kevin Frandsen starting? If one out of four hits well enough to play every day I would be pleased, and if two make it, I would be delighted. At three I would be ecstatic, and at all four I would faint.
I’m not sure Antoan will even make it to the big leagues, other than perhaps as a pinch runner/defensive replacement.
