Open Gameday Thread, 7/2
Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants, Jul 2, 2008 7:15 PM PDT
My hopes for the game:
- The Giants score ten runs.
- Kevin Correia goes seven strong innings.
- Sergio Romo pitches the eighth.
- Osiris Matos pitches the ninth.
I'm no logimagician, but I think this scenario breaks down right around point #1. A fella can dream, though.

How is Romo?
I heard on the Sabean show that he was a bit…excited…in his first appearance.

This seems like a good year for relievers to become starters. Ryan Dempster, Justin Duchschererererreeer, and of course, our very own Jonathan Sanchez. I don’t really have anything insightful to say, just an interesting observation.

This seems like a good year
For people to have truly breakout seasons. I mean, I can’t remember a Baseball Season in which so many players came out of seemingly nowhere to become some of the best players in the game: Timmy, Volquez, Uggla, Fukudome, Duschererererere, etc. There’s a shitload of ‘em.
by ololo3 on Jul 2, 2008 5:59 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn’t say Fukudome is one of the best in the game. He’s pretty good not not spectacular. And we know he came from Japan. ;) But otherwise, I agree with you.

You're probably right...
Problem is, I know there are a shitload of other players that I could be using as examples, but can’t think of any of their names right now for some stupid reason…

Timmy came from nowhere!? He was a top 10 pick and a candidate at one point to go #1. Going into last season, he was almost universally seen as one of the top pitching prospects in the game. He’s the opposite of a player coming from nowhere.
by jcb9 on Jul 2, 2008 6:46 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Really, he won the Golden Spikes Award and he became the first player ever to be named both the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year.
Obscurity, yeah.

i think i heard Kruk say this
a lot of them prefer to be starters anyway, rarely is any pitcher a reliever for his entire career. Perhaps this is just them knowing they gotta be good to keep on starting.

Looking at the Fresno box score
I noticed that Ehire Adrianza was starting at SS. Can anyone explain this promotion?

Also, why hasn’t schierholtz started the past couple games?

Whoa Adrianza all the way up from the rookie team? I did see Casey Bond listed in a box score in a Fresno game this year. C Bond is with the Salem-Keizer short season rookie team.

Hmm.
Looking at Bleed Cubbie Blue, there’s discussion about how the Cubs should light Correia up, because he’s “a nomadic character,” which apparently means he’s a journeyman (which is amusing, since he’s been with the Giants organization his whole career thus far) and “he fucking sucks.”
Thus, Correia must return to his late 2007 form tonight. MUST.
Also, they have like 5+ times more comments then us, which is weird – usually, whenever I check he other team blog, we’re the chatty ones. What’s become of us, McCoven!?

Surprisingly the quality of the produce there is really good. The people are so nice and friendly. It’s so weird to have a farmer’s market at a BART station but this one is seriously great.

I have a theory that the further you go in academia, the less your brain actually works.
My example: last semester I was reading an essay on decision making process theory (international relations stuff), sipping a spiced latte and pondering the meanings in the text. I smelled the scent of spices very strongly all of a sudden. Somehow in my reading, I ended up with spiced latte in my hair. I cannot tell you how it got there, but part of my hair was sticky and smelled like cinnamon and nutmeg heaven.

Go Passed-out drunk Ralley Monkey-eating rally leopard!
Don't think, it could only hurt the ballclub.

Can I get a Bowker HR here?

I’m listening to the game. All 3 hits have been line drives

Did Bocock get injured? I’m sure he was a temp promotion. Maybe we can call him either “Lou” or Gehrig” if he continues to rake.

take projections with a grain of salt,
but Miller projected that Bowker, over 600 ABs, is lining up for 25 homers and over 100 RBIs.
Obviously lots of things wrong with that, but I would never have assumed him to even do that well considering his jump directly from Connecticut.

The jump from AA to ML is shorter than you may think. Have heard many scouts etcs say if a kid can master AA he has a legitimate shot at ML.

Wow, bochy
you never cease to amaze me with your consistent shitty managing. Leave Corriea in 1 inning too long, let him give up a runner, then pull him. You are an idiot.

Annoying as Hell
I’m guessing Amy Gutierez got her job by winning some sort of raffle. I don’t know what CSN pays her but she is more overpaid then Zito. Maybe my ex-wife had something to do with her showing up five times a game in some whack manuever to drive me crazy.
