Open Gameday Thread, 7/19
Milwaukee Brewers at San Francisco Giants, Jul 19, 2008 1:05 PM PDT

Does anyone have last night's game still on their DVR? Fourth inning, section 103, Mike Cameron was up, and I actually looked the ball into my glove this time. I doubt I made it on the air, but you never know....

El Guapo
While the downtime was needed, Sanchez has not pitched since Wednesday July 9th so will keep an eye on his control.
I think we are going to lose today. And by lose I mean win. And by win I mean get closer to a top pick in the draft. And by getting closer to a top pick in the draft I mean lose today.

Were you sitting right in the front row? I saw a guy make a great snag on a foul ball in the front row.

I still kind of want to see if he can get his OPS+ to negative numbers. /o\
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
i thought ops+ was (OBP/lgOBP+SLG%/lgSLG%). how do you get negative?
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
OPS+ = 100 * (OBP/lgOBP* + SLG/lgSLG* – 1)

Because otherwise, if you’re league average in both SLG and OBP, you have OPS+ = 100*(1+1) = 200. That’s why it’s necessary to subtract one.
Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com and on it I make jokes about things.
so
if your obp and slg% are both below half the league average you have an ops+ in the negative?
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
Yeah

Vizquel is currently being dragged down by his .175 SLG, far below half the league average of .423.

former SFG pitchers and catchers
Wonderful, heartfelt speech from Kruk. B/t that and watching him and Dravecky in the booth lat night, I’m ready to declare my undying love for him.
Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.
There was a letter in the Chronicle Datebook this morning that said “I’ve listened to every announcer group in the majors and Kruk and Kuip are the biggest homers there are!”
And I was like “There is no way you can listen to the White Sox announcers and come away thinking Hawk is less of a homer than Kruk and Kuip.”
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
The Cardinals as well. When you actively root for a ball to clear the fence, and you are an announcer, you are a homer.

I forgot the game wasn’t on tv. On the plus side, I did get to see a couple of seconds of overly well-groomed men in suits, one of them called Brother Johnny, very stiffly explaining why the Church of Christ is the only true church. So that’s a plus.

why does velez and ochoa get ab’s at 2b instead of manny? this is dumb
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
And actually, a few weeks ago, after Vizquel said he wouldn’t mind sitting in favor of Burriss, I caught Bochy’s pregame show, and he told Jon Miller he’d play Burriss against “some lefties.” Which is exactly what he’s done. I’m not saying it makes sense or that it isn’t the stupidest thing ever, but there you go.
go velez!!
just don’t get caught stealing 2nd ;)
If my head is full of white hairs by the end of this season.. I blame Brian Wilson. (I'm only 22, dammit!)
I dunno about Fresno, but in his first stint in SF, it seemed like most of his CSs were actually pick-offs rather than actually trying to steal.
redundant to Bowker?
gotta give JB a real shot to succeed or fail, i reckon
Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.
Enough to essentially replace Fred with TI in the line-up?
yeah, well, the whole world stinks, francine -- so get used to it!
Believe SF should give TI an August and September look-see
I like TI at 1b and Bowker at LF better than Bowker at 1b and Lewis in LF. Let Lewis, Schierholtz, Winn battle in a winner take all cage match to see who will be the SF RF.

proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
Oy
At one point, I thought maybe Bill Hall would be an interesting fit for third base for us next year, since he was unhappy with the Brewers. He’s not exactly having a great season, though. Of course he’d still lead us in homers.
Not a lot of third base options on the FA market. Another year of Castillo at 3B? Joy.
im gonna put blind faith into denker
just cus hes 22

maybe somewhere
cus theres a tv next to the game on mlb.com.. but its blacked out

do teams
hit like 750 against us in 0-2 counts?
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
opposing pitchers are hitting .750 too
or at least it seems like it
Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.
probably
hes about 1/3 as good as a pitcher so if they hit 750, hed hit over 200

babip is like 800 right now
id consider him unlucky right now

batting average of balls in play
so it counts ab’s not homers, strike outs, or walks

at least
we are workin the count before making outs

Only .186 by my calculations
Though I’m hopeless at math. He has so few XBHs it should be a hard calculation to muck up, though.
was actually a clutch ab by castillo

how come
pitchers dont ever get RBI’s? (aside from timmys tripple)

im actually watching the red sox game
just cus its on.. but the angels have maicer izturis as their #3 hitter. which got me thinkin that maybe winn isnt the weakest #3 hitter in the game
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
i was gonna say kearns as #3
but since hes 4, im thinkin christian guzman?
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
youd think with 6 strike outs through 3 innings
that he wouldnt be giving up 5 hits in 3 innings..
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..

yes, but a 6 pitch at bat?
