OT: A funny thing happened to me on my way home last night

A baseball game broke out!

I work at UC Berkeley, and as I was heading home, I saw some activity in Evan Field (Cal's baseball diamond, home of the ZOMG Jeff Kent Batting Cages!!!). I popped my head in to investigate, and there was a full-fledged game going on, with wood bats and everything!!

I broke out the handy iPhone and was able to determine that the game was a contest between the California Cobras and the San Jose Seals (who appear not to have a website, which seems positively bizarre in this day and age) of the Sierra Baseball League. Who even knew such a thing existed? Certainly not I.

It seems to be a West Coast approximation of the Cape Cod League, with college players and wood bats (thank god). The level of play wasn't super-awesome, but the pitching was good and it was certainly entertaining (and free). I'm planning on checking out the next semi-pro game at Evans on Tuesday the 22nd, which will pit the San Jose Seals against the Novato Knicks.

Good times!
