San Jose @ Stockton 7/14/08
I got a chance to check out the little Giants yesterday in Stockton and since there isn't a minor lines for yesterday I am going to share my thoughts here.
SJ 0 - STK 3
San Jose
Denker 0-4 2K
Ortmeier 0-3 K, BB
D'Alessio 2-4
English(L) 6IP, 5H, 3ER, 3BB, 9K
Stockton
Gilbert 2-3 RBI, BB, 2SB
Carter 1-3 HR, K
Fernandez(W) 7.2IP, 0R, 5H, 2BB, 6K
D'Alessio looked pretty good driving the ball the other way for a couple singles but otherwise Fernandez, who was rocking a great looking stache, dominated the entire lineup. The Giants only managed one runner in scoring position in the entire game and that came in the first inning on a Graham double.
English looked pretty solid showing a pretty good fastball, change and curve. His fastball was usually 88-89 with the occasional 91 thrown in there.
Ortmeier looked really bad against the right hander, but I was surprised to see him take his ABs from the left side of the plate. Am I mistaken or did we have him give up on the whole switch hitting thing?
Carter, who the A's acquired in the Haren trade, looked very impressive. He made a great diving stop at third and hit an absolute bomb in the 6th. His home run was his 26th of the season and almost hit the scoreboard in left. How is this guy still in Stockton? He has 26 jacks and 72 RBI on the season (8 RBI in the series).

I'm on ORTWATCH, code blue
Seriously, I understand that taking 6 weeks off will affect your game, but dude seems to have forgotten everything about hitting. Or he’s just pressing so hard (“I should be dominating these A-ball scrubs!”) that he’s f(l)ailing.
Color me concerned.
Also, SJG, stop sucking!
Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.
Carter first went to AZ for Carlos Quentin. I really think the A’s are going to win that trade. I love the way Sabean has managed our prospects: changing Sanchez from a starter to reliever 3 times, moving Denker from AA to AAA when he had no success at AA, then bringing him to MLB to rot on the bench getting 3 at-bats a week, then back to High A. Now changing Ort form a SH to Righty only back to SH. They really screw with young guys too much, and Burriss should really be in the minors getting regular AB’s too unless he’s going to play everyday in MLB which doesn’t look imminent.
