Subject to Failure

With the All-Star Break only two days away and deals already beginning to be swung, the Giants have to make some moves. Being 15 games under the .500 mark and now fading out of the divisional race (like we all thought we would), the Giants are not contenders. So, with that being said what moves can and should the Giants make after the All-Star Break and before the Trade Deadline?

Canidates to be moved: ( AVG, SLG, OBP)

  • OF Randy Winn (.286 .407 .356)
  • 2B Ray Durham (.287 .413 .381)
  • UTIL Rich Aurilia (.278 .436 .333)
  • C Bengie Molina (.286 .408 .315)
  • RP Keichi Yabu (3-4, 3.38ERA, 31K, 19BB)

These are the only guys that are worth trading and have value to fetch anything worth a return. Any kind of proposed deals? What teams do we happen to fit their needs?

I agree with 4 outta 5 of those

All but Yabu (whom you cheated out of an “i”). I think he’s too old and his performance this year has been too flukey to bring anything valuable in return. I imagine an A or AA arm would get more in return.

That said, if anyone wants him, then we’ve got to listen to and entertain the offer.

They've done their part

The players mentioned above have all done their part to play well enough this season to develop or retain trade value. Only Omar Vizquel and the injured Dave Roberts haven’t improved or at least retained their trade value.

Age would seem to limit the value of all but Randy Winn, and his value may be slightly limited by his contract (high $ and ability to block trades to 10 teams) and after yesterday, his health status.

I read an article that stated that trade value increases as the trade deadline nears. So perhaps hope is increasing day by day. Perhaps Brian Sabean will be spending some face time with other GM’s over the All-Star break and can get things jump started.

I don’t want to see any pictures of Sabean at the Giants’ games that don’t show him with a phone on his ear. He needs to get to work as soon as possible.

I would like to see a picture of Sabean trying to imitate Rowand’s batting stance. That would amuse me.

you can't block the Bocock
