Good Luck Moises
In case you missed it, Moises Alou's career ended last night when he tore a hamstring DIVING for a ball in a A league rehab game. This guy is one of my favorite players of all time and I'm glad he put on the Giants' uniform for a couple of years. What a great hitter he was and still is, even at the age of 41, but he can't stay healthy. And why can't he stay healthy?? Because he continues to dive all over the place, risking life and limb in unimportant things like minor league rehab games. Some might call him reckless and stupid, but he is an Alou and that's how they play the game. He could have jogged around the outfield like a certain Mr. Bonds used to do, and he probably would be hitting .300 until he's 50, but that was not the way he played the game. I hate the Mets, but I couldn't even root against him when I saw him coming up to the plate. What a hitter he was. You could throw him 20 straight offspeed pitches, but if you then threw him a fastball, he would still be all over it. I hope the Giants give him a job, because this is the club that the Alou family is associated with, not those pigs from New York and their ungrateful fans who boo a .350 hitter when he has one bad game. Good luck, Moises!!

I love Moises
I totally agree with all your comments about him, and I just hope that this is not the end of his career. His body is obviously breaking/broken down, but maybe after the surgery he can still DH another year or two.
On the other hand your cheap shot at Barry Bonds was gratuitous and uncalled for. For shame.

Always loved to watch Moises hit
he would just crush fastballs, and when he would run in from the outfield after the end of an inning, he would assume some sort of wierd tyrannosaurian pose with this hands that looked just awesome.
As for the shot at Bonds, it’s the truth. He wasn’t what you would htink of as a “max-effort” kind of player

Not being a "max-effort" kind of player helped him stay healthy. Staying healthy and hitting home runs > running out every GB. This was good for the team.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

not arguing either way, just tellng the truth. That would be an interesing discussion on another thread, however.

Preference
I’d rather have Barry not run all-out in unimportant or low probability of success situations, stay healthy and productive all season, and have a long career where he’d still be effective even if he can’t get any team to offer him a contract. Good for Moises for the all-out effort, but I could never ever deride Bonds for the way he played the game.

I don’t want to hijack the thread, but what used to drive me nuts was when Bonds’ could still run a little bit (2000-2003-ish), he would slowly jog up the line on a DP ball (not that he hit into many). Used bug the hell out of me. I’m not saying he had to sprint up the line on a ground ball to second, but still.

I love Barry, my “shot” at him was just stating a fact. I was one of the fans who defended his style of play because we couldn’t afford to lose him from the lineup. However the fact remains that Moises could have chosen the same route because of his age, but instead chose to play the game as hard as he did when he was a rookie.

And that obviously was a stupid choice on Moises’ part. I love that Bonds is now being bashed for his intelligence. What’s next, Bonds never kicked any puppies and this proves that he’s not a good person because some puppies grow up to be bad dogs? Seriously, WTF?
I don’t even remember Bonds jogging around the outfield, he just made things look effortless and so people thought he wasn’t trying.

I think you might be getting carried away here with Bonds-hyperbole. Bonds may have been a great athlete, but inferring that Bonds gave Alou-esque effort but made it look effortless is going a little far.
I specifically remember Bonds admitting he didn’t give all-out effort at times on Ralph and Tom’s show. He attributed it to partially trying to preserve his body and partially to it him not being the type of guy who doesn’t always hustle when he should.
Back to Moises, I admire him for playing the game the way it should be played. He’d already made enough money to set he and his family up for life; I’m sure part of him was playing the game because that’s what he is; a ballplayer. A “gamer”, if you will.

Oh Jeez Moises tore his hammy? That’s awful. I loved him too and was sad to see him go, even as I knew the end was coming soon for him.

Little known fact
Moises’ skin care program was the reason the forearm bash was invented. High five? No thanks…
I miss the days of Wiz Mitts jokes. They were even better than the Bocock era.

I completely Agree
I was so happy w/ Moises on this team when he was – In my mind one of the last players from a great era – cut from a different cloth.
I would love to see him associated with the Giants long term.

I’ll take that bet, but won’t say which side of the proposition I’m taking.
So do we know have the upper hand since they’re in more need? Who should we ask for?

David Wright
I’m not settling for anything less for Randy Winn. That’s about equal value, I think.

I don’t know. We might have to throw in Jose Castillo to fill in their hole at third base.

If we give up Castillo
I think the Mets need to throw in Reyes. Otherwise the balance is off. We can throw in Omar to balance it out, but that’s the only way it gets fair again.

If the mets take his salary…..a bag of peanuts would be about right. Think, Matt Morris/Raj Davis here.
Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???

The Mets claim to be happy with Endy Chavez and Tatis for now, and based on this series, why shouldn’t they be?? Jon Heyman claims they’re talking to the Angels about Juan Rivera though. He’s had a bad year, but he’s played in New York before and he makes a lot less money. The Wilpons are supposedly angry about their rapidly approaching the Yankees type payroll, and don’t want to add to it. Perhaps if Sabean eats the rest of this year they might do it, but why should he eat salary to trade a .300 hitter??

I’d only eat salary if it’s fresh and thorougly washed…and brings back a B+ prospect.
