What we have here, is FAILure to communicate
Aside from the fact that my Enggrish is sup-par, I still have questions. Obviously, I ain't doned learnded those fancy composition skills y'all have. No less, this is America, morons tend to make up the general population, and welcome me as I have finally arrived as prey to this intellectual cavalry. From Marsellus Wallace's briefcase, to the Holy Grail, and just a little north to those damn parrots in North Beach, I have to ask, What is it? Where is it? How did it get there? Bowker, Burriss, Matos, Romo, and than where does it all go? Who is to say that any of these guys will ever become a star, and how likely is it? Other than Lincecum, Cain, Sanchez, is it not worth trading any of these rookies for a guy with decent potential? I do believe we have a lot of chips (combined ) that could bring us a true 3-hitter with tremendous upside, based on who we trade with. I know teams like the Rays, Nats aren't going to trade youth, but if it is a youth package in return, any chance?

I think any trade value they have is minimal. They are worth much more on the team than as trade bait, especially Bowker and Burriss. Don’t forget Burriss was in Low A most of last year. He could be our SS or 2B of the future.
I am a huge fan of your name, somewhat jealous I didn’t come up with it.

I agree with Icanplaythird, our system is so lacking in position players that these guys are more valuable to us as players than as trade bait, especially with their perceived lack of upside. Also, relief prospects are a dime a dozen.

Any suggestions?
I don’t see how we can package our semi-prospects and get a guy with 3rd hitter upside.
If you think it’s possible, I’d love to hear how.

I guess I am hoping the fact we shot Bowker from an un-friendly hitter’s parl like Norwich to MLB, and he still maintains some form of consistency. And he’s got shiny Double A numbers, I’d bite, but then again, that’s why I consult the counsel first

Hackers are the one thing the Giants just haven't had over the years

I acutally think that Pete Happy is worlds better than Notguardo. With Pedro there was a sliver of hope. With Alfonzo, it’s like closing your eyes and hoping the ball hits the bat. And then there’s the defense…I want STEVE HOLM! back right now.

His defense you can hate on..
but 2006 Notgardo was WAY, way, way above average offensively for a catcher.

why cant facts be accepted
12 years of drafting mainly top pitching prospects has made the giants farm system a joke…so much so that we get overjoyed when a guy like bowker breaks out
we do have one trading chip in the minors, and that would be nate…but for some reason, the org would rather torture him in aaa than bring him up or trade him
by bacci40 on Jul 11, 2008 1:59 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I can’t imagine anybody would want Nate enough to give up something of any value for him—most teams have somebody likeish him around in their own system. He’s just not that valuable a prospect. Now if he came up and showed that he can be his own best case scenario in the majors then in two or three years, maybe, but I don’t believe he’s worth anything in trade right now.
My boy ain't fat, he's just big boned. Big bat, too.

you probably study the minors more closely than I do, but I look alot at the two NY teams, and who’s the Nate Schierholtz in their systems?? I keep seeing them signing old stiffs and bringing up kids hitting .180. I don’t want to trade Nate, but he’s a good deal better than anyone they have, and I’d be surprised if he’s not a good deal better than what alot of other teams have as well.

Someone (I think Grant, but I can’t remember) wrote a brilliant sarcastic scouting report detailing that very idea. He wrote that if Nate was in the Mets’ system, he could’ve been the centerpiece of the Santana deal, described as a toolsey outfielder with monster. Because he’s a Giants’ prospect the scouting report would be “take a pitch”. Nate needs to be in RF, but Winn has played fairly well. I’m actually surprised the Mets are not interested in Winn. With Alou on the shelf, Winn could bounce between all 3 OF postiions and be a lot better than the Fernando Tatis/Endy Chavez plateoon they are running out there right now.

He wrote that if Nate was in the Mets’ system, he could’ve been the centerpiece of the Santana deal, described as a toolsey outfielder with monster [power?].
I doubt Grant wrote that. Because Grant is not crazy (I think). Maybe Schierholtz is overrated, but that doesn’t mean he’s a great prospect. I think he could be a slightly above average RF, but Matt Laporta he is not.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

It drives me freakin’ bananas that so many people think that because a guy isn’t a Johan Santana or an Albert Pujols that he’s not worth a damn as a prospect. How many teams are loaded with superstar type players that they all acquired from drafts? Boston is about the closest I’ve seen to that ideal. Milwaukee could be. But those two systems are ridiculously strong anyway. They are not the norm.
I still think that Nate could be an above average OF as Cookyman said. He has power and is a competent fielder and from what I saw of his hitting, he is doing more to drive the ball. He thinks a lot about the game and his hitting too, at least from what we have discussed in brief.
So what exactly is bad about having a guy who is a pretty decent player? It’s a hell of a lot better than blowing a load of cash on someone who’s actually shitty and watching the pretty decent guy waste away.

I agree with you totally. I keep reading that Nate has huge natural power, but has yet to really translate it to games. I think he’ll do well, personally. I due think that if Nate was a in the Brewers’ (or Red Sox) system, he would be held in higher acclaim because those organizations are more highly thought of.
by tyrannoman on Jul 11, 2008 9:16 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Grant’s point wasn’t that Nate would be worth it. It’s that they hype around him would be so great that he would become hideously overrated, like all prospects for New York teams.
