It seems to be an accepted fact that Gallaspie is an extremely polished hitter, but his bat just seems to be lacking power. Bill Mueller seems to be the most common comp and as we all know Mueller was one who would be happy to have double digit HR's. Mueller's career isoP was .130, but he made up for it with good defense and great plate patience.
Personally, I think the power issues with Gallaspie might be overstated. He did have a great Cape Cod performance with wooden bats and he had nearly a .300 isoP in his last year of college. Gallaspie is also a bigger man than Mueller and as his bodie continues to fill out he should have the ability to add more power. Looking at his videos, it certainly looks like his swing isn't one of much power, but those are obviously selective clips and don't tell the whole story.
Truthfully, I think Gallaspie is going to have more power than people say. I could see him hitting 15-20 home runs regularly with decent doubles pop. I think Corey Koskie with a better avg is a better comp for his ceiling offensively, which could really be very nice for us if he grows as a player.
The real key is whether his defense can keep him at 3rd, because his defense is supposed to be very poor and while his bat I think will definitely translate, if it isn't coming out of 3B, it hurts his value tremendously.
