Lowry may be done for the year

San Francisco Giants left-hander Noah Lowry had another MRI exam on his surgically repaired throwing forearm and won't be pitching any time soon -- maybe not at all this season.

"That's questionable," manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday. "We don't know if he will be back on the mound this year. It's fair to say we're getting to that point that it's a fair question."

Lowry was examined Tuesday by Dr. Robert Gamburd, the same physician who did some of the pitcher's preliminary tests back in spring training. The 27-year-old Lowry was shut down April 30 for what the team called a significant amount of time, still experiencing tingling in his left forearm that forced him to undergo surgery to repair his nerves in March.

I don’t really care anymore. I’ve pretty much forgotten about him…

Man, we really could have used his bat in the lineup.

Oh don’t worry. He’ll pitch in August. He just won’t be able to pitch the rest of the year.

I pretty much expected this. I’ve expected because of his declining peripherals that he was heading towards an arm injury. His loss of control was a really big indicator.

I guess this is the downside

Of buying out a young player’s arb years.

by Change Up on Jun 4, 2008 3:16 PM PDT reply actions

damn, you beat me to it. This is the downside. That being said, I still can’t believe the deal TB got when they signed Longoria. He cost hiimself $20 mil, easy (unless he gets hurt!)

by tyrannoman on Jun 4, 2008 3:29 PM PDT up reply actions

From a salary perspective

This is costing us about as much as signing Tim Worrell for the second time, except we actually got some value for Lowry at the beginning of his contract.

James Andrews

Does anyone know if Lowry has seen Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham AL? If not, why?

"They can trade me," Bonds said. "I don't think they will, though. It's not like I want to be traded, man. I'm a Giant. I'm stuck here till the end."

Something tells me that loss of sensation in the hands isn’t particularly conducive to hitting.

If only Lowry wasn’t so prone to these afflictions that have never happened to anybody else before him!

Perhaps the Giants can get some return on their investment by renting Noah out to medical schools.

I'm bummed

It doesn’t matter that this news comes as a total non-surprise, I feel badly for Noah.

I said this last season and I’ll say it again – even if he gets healthy Lowry will not be an effective major-league pitcher again.
