Euro 2008 Final Open Gameday Thread
Spain vs. Germany for all the marbles. One of the most incredible soccer tournaments in recent memory comes to a (hopefully) thrilling conclusion. Michael Ballack is playing today, but David Villa is not. Spain looks for its first title in 44 years.
Have at it, McCoven! The Giants-A's game doesn't begin for another 90 minutes anyway.
Wow, this pregame show with the giant balloon cones is weird. Sure ain't Tom Petty at the Super Bowl, is it?
LINEUPS!
Germany: Lehmann, Friedrich, Mertesacker, Metzelder, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Frings, Ballack, Hitzlsperger, Podolski, Klose.
Spain: Casillas, Ramos, Puyol, Marchena, Capdevila, Senna, Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas, Silva, Torres.

Hey where is everyone?
North Side? Pac Bell Boozer? Bueller?
Anyway, great first half for Spain. They really took it to the Germans after the first 15 minutes or so. I’m actually surprised they didn’t score another goal or two. Ballack, Klose, Schweinsteiger will all need to pick it up if they want to win this.
Also, kudos to whomever at ESPN/ABC decided to bring in Andy Gray for this tournament. He’s already one of my favorite color commentators in any sport. Even though his thick Scottish brogue is occasionally incomprehensible.

We were surprised to see the game on ABC. Up until a few years ago I can remember having to watch big matches on spanish language TV, pay-per-view, or not at all.

I’m here…f’ing comcast internet can suck me off.
Really enjoyed the first half, and Ballack should consider himself lucky for still being on the field. I knew the guy was dirty, but his challenges in the opening 45 mins. were beyond clumsy. Also, has anyone seen Klose on the ball? I mean I know he was there for the player introductions, but haven’t seen him even touch the ball.
I’m with Andy Gray too, this referee is f’ing clueless.

Whoa
Lehmann just saw his life flash in front of his eyes. Torres scores there and this match is over, methinks.

heading toward a corker of a finish, no doubt. Excellent match thus far.

Give Rossetti a bit of a break…he is Italian, and thereby is a cheating bastard when it comes to football.

Don’t know what you’re talking about, but I’m going to see Tigres and Cruz Azul here in Sactown in a few weeks. That’s “real football” right? More real than MLS, that’s for sure.

Very deserving champions
Their passing during the tournament was a sight to see, especially the last two matches. Man, no one in Spain is going to work tomorrow on time.
And hey, if Spain can break a 44-year drought, who’s to say the Giants can’t break a 54-year drought? (ducks)

Not a huge football fan, but since I’m part Spanish, I watched and rooted with interest.
My Irish friend who’s a big fan since Ballack’s a punk and it sure looked that way. He saw Ballack bleeding and simply said “Good”.

Ballack is one of those guys that when things are going good, he’s king of the world, but when they start going bad, he flops, flails, plays dirty and basically acts like he did today during the final. Disgraceful.
