Explanation for 'Good' Zito?
Per the Giants website:
"After posting a 1-3 record in his first four June starts, Zito flashed his 2002 AL Cy Young form on Wednesday at Cleveland, surrendering one run and four hits in a season-high 6 2/3 innings as the Giants prevailed, 4-1. Zito's employing a slightly lower arm slot and using a two-seam fastball to his advantage. Zito was 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in two starts against Chicago last year. But he has struggled at AT&T Park, where he's 0-7 with a 7.34 ERA"

too soon.
seriously, way too soon to start talking about Good Zito.
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.
Not a broken clock
It can’t be a broken clock because the expression is right “twice” a day. That would mean that Barry Zito will pitch another good game this year. Since this is unlikely to happen, I would think the analogy to go with here is “every dog has his day.” It fits better because Zito is a dog, and it only implies one time.
Brian Sabean's new dad: Firm believer in corporal punishment
Wrong!
Zito will pitch a shutout every start from now until the end of his contract!
Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com and on it I make jokes about things.

I made a comment in the gameday thread...
But I could’ve sworn the slot looks higher….I know a few others agreed
Bill Mueller? I expect at least A-Rod type numbers from my son, Conor Gillaspie

"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Maybe Zito
Had an agreement with chulk that he wouldn’t be the worst on the team.
Now that Chulk is gone, Zito can stop fucking off.

Maybe it's because he started dating Miley Cyrus

Next year: Suri Cruise!
I know I made that joke before, but it still amuses me. And McCovey Chronicles is an ecologically friendly website.

This is the real explanation for Zito’s newfound success: http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2008/6/25/558707/open-gameday-thread-6-25#6976934

he had 2 extra days rest, just from the schedule. Stronger, had more velocity. He was better after his week+ off back in May, also.
6 man rotation is probably not feasible. But it might help, or we swap a reliever for a Fresno starter sometimes. There’s a long stretch in July/Aug with no days off, that may show us something.

could try a four man rotation
put correa, cain, lincecum, and sanchez out, and then put zito in if there is not an off day. This way our good pitchers can get a few extra starts, and Zito can be well rested, if that is indeed what led to his performance on wednesday.
Correia already has had arm trouble this year. Sanchez has been gradually building stamina after relieving last year. Cain looks real strong but nobody would take the risk of destryoying all those shoulders. You need a reliever who can start once in a while, so all 5 of em get an extra day rest. Misch and Hennessey have done that in the past.

I wasn’t aware of Correia having arm trouble this year. I though he strained a lat or oblique or something
2008 Giants: Scrappy! Scrappy! Joy! Joy!
Oblique. I remember worrying he’d be out for months like Lowry last season.

I was happy
I was happy it was the oblique on his non-throwing side. I think Kevin is the Giants’ most underrated pitcher.

DFA all Giants over 34 years old.
I think
I think there is a fair chance that Barry Zito turned the corner two nights ago—or at least is close to doing so. Wednesday night was the first time all season his strikeouts exceeded his walks by four. I see that as a positive sign.
This is one time I would really like to be right.
This is one time the rest of us want you to be right, too!

Good one!
Good one, Fair Weather Fan. And don’t forget about Tim Lincecum! :)
Actually, I’m also high on Jonathan Sanchez, Madison Bumgarner, Buster Posey, Conor Gillaspie, Tim Alderson and Angel Villalona (cautiously, in the last case).
Forgot
Forgot to add that I’m also high on Nick Noonan and Wendell Fairly. And reasonably high on Pablo Sandoval.
Along with Lincecum, Cain, Sanchez and Wilson, I expect most of those guys to be cornerstones of the franchise when it rises from the ashes in 2012.
