Newest draft signings
LHP's Aaron King and Scott Barnes along with 1B Robert Flanigan were added to the "signed" update to the Giants draft database over on Baseball America. This ended a cold streak of signings after many of the seniors in the class agreed to deals relatively quickly. Now lets start seeing some names like O'Sullivan, Crawford and Kieschnick get signed in the next few days.
If anyone has any info or rumored activity on what is going on in the Dominican, feel free to add any info to this thread.

Oh well. If he’s that dumb to think he can improve his stock let him go back to school. This is a guy who despite his potential, is also just as likely (if not more likely) to be as bad as Brian Bocock with the bat. No sense in going over slot for a guy with such big question marks about his ability to hit.

To be fair, he is probably the type of player who could see a benefit to going back to school given how he had a bad year causing him to fall in the draft. Of course he may do badly again, but if he’s confident then at least it is a viable bargaining chip unlike a number of other players. Hopefully he does sign though as it’d be shame if he didn’t.

That’s exactly it. Because he did so poorly in 2008, it really hurt his draft stock. Several sources were saying he was a first round talent. So if he really wants to roll the dice again and risk a crappy season giving him an even lower draft position next year, so be it.

Except College Seniors typically don’t go in the first round unless they’re pitchers, or were first rounders the year before and didn’t sign ala Jason Varitek.
Even with a stellar year, its unlikely Crawford would go a whole lot higher than he just did. Maybe the 2nd round would be the highest he could go. And as College Senior he would have no contract leverage to press for a bonus above slot. It’s a pretty big gamble. I hope he is signed purely for the reason that the Giants have poor depth at SS in the minors, and if he did hit, he would easily become our best SS prospect.

Sounds like he won't sign if he wants a lot more
Slot should be mid-to-high $200K; late first round should be around $1.1-12M. That is a huge divide. Even if he can raise it to the second round, that’s $500-750K.
Then again, he could blow out his knee or put in an even crappier season and miss out on a quarter of a mil.
And the Giants have been willing to go over slot before, but not greatly above it, at least not by that much, except for draft and follows and Ishikawa.
Here’s where his confidence comes in: does he believe that staying one year will get him to the majors that much faster? Because if he delays a year, it could cost him one pro season, which could mean making the majors one year later. That’s $350-400K right there lost, plus the income from one pro season. That puts him closer to $750K if he signs now vs. what he can get if he don’t sign and takes just as long to make the majors. Plus, if you are confident enough that you will be a major leaguer, that is one less year in your MLB career, or at least $3M at the back end of your career that you miss out on because you have a reduced MLB career.
