Damon Bruce: is he for real?

He accepts the abuse that the broadcasters gave him – and why not, he can’t really do anything back without looking like an ass – then says that the Giants will be facing the Indian’s Lincecum tomorrow – Cliff Lee. As in 30 year old, veteran of 5 years, lacking any dominating strikeout pitch Cliff Lee. Yes, that’s the Indian’s Lincecum all right…

Sidenote, sfgiants.com noted that the Indians could have signed Lincecum the year before and therefore it could be them having Lincecum start for them instead of for us. Then they go and pat themselves on the back for seeing his talent and selecting him in the draft.

Well, if they really saw his talent, the talent he is showing today, then they would have signed him for the measy $1M bonus that he was asking for that season, instead of saying that was too rich and passing on him. This would be like any of the music labels who had the Beatles in for a demo and passed on them saying, “Yeah, we saw their potential, I give a lot of credit to our scouts on that one”.

No, you don’t, because you missed out on signing them, the scouts didn’t see it enough.

"Their Lincecum"

I’ve heard a couple of managers of other teams refer to certain young pitchers as their Lincecum- I remember hearing Dusty call Cueto their Lincecum and Clint Hurdle saying the same thing about Jimenez. I’m pretty sure I’ve read similar comparisons made with Max Scherzer. Lincecum, of course, is proving why the comparisons are being made to him and not vice-versa.

But Cliff Lee as the Indian’s Lincecum makes little sense. He’s having a good year, but he’s not even the best pitcher on that staff.
