Around SBN: Four TCU Football Players Among 17 Arrested In Drug Ring

OT: All Time Worst Contract Team

How about a little "off day" distraction ? On Bugs and Cranks yesterday one of the contributers posted the All Time Worst Contract Team. I'm sure you can imagine the current Giant listed on that team.

Comment starter: Do you agree with the writers list ? Can you create an All San Francisco Giants Worst Contract Team ? The team need not be based on dollar value. Player performance does factor. Trades may be included. Difficulty: You may not include Barry Zito.

Not a bad list, but the best part is all the Dodgers on it! And I feel vindicated that I was adamantly against the notion of signing Gary Matthews after a career year. I feel good about that.

For a second, I read the subject as “All Time Worst Contact” team and was already compiling a long list of Giants to add to the list.

I have a hard time believing that Gagne’s one-year deal with the Brewers is the all-time worst contract for a closer. Mark Davis anyone?

Armando Benitez.

That is all.

Exactly

How could he be left off this list?

Only 900 games until the end of Zito's contract

Matthews Jr. and Juan Pierre

It’s funny that Sabean was into trying to get both of these guys during that off-season. And then ended up with a pretty bad contract for the center fielder he did get.

Flip....Flip....Flip

That’s me flipping a coin on the Roberts/Pierre/Matthews Jr. deals.

The Giants didn’t get away clean by any means, but less damage with Roberts. We just wasted a little bit of money. The Dodgers and Angels. Ouch ! Dave Roberts is not playing due to injury (surprise !). Pierre is not playing due to the massive suck muscle.

Om the other hand, a lot of people thought Sorinao would be a bust, and it would have been nice to get him.

Ah, but Pierre is taking AB’s away from the vaunted Andruw Jones, whose suck muscle and belly have swollen to massive proportions…

Not sure what I have to do with this, but that’s pretty funny.

I like that picture of the old guy doing the rimshot with the words “ba doom shhh” that someone posted a coule of weeks ago, too.

As to bad Giants contracts, in addition to Benitez, I’d mention Edgardo, Matheny (although mostly because of the injury), Neifi, Osvaldo Fernandez, Benard, Shinjo.

I don’t think the Giants’ spent much $$ on Shinjo. I know they traded Estes, but I thought he was making less than a mil.

by tyrannoman on Jun 19, 2008 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Making us watch Shinjo and his funky swing makes it a bad contract whether the team paid him or not.

by paboperfecto on Jun 19, 2008 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

The swing was bad, but man those wristbands…

Definitely Alfonzo

4 years / $26M for what turned out to be the last four years of his career. It’s easy to forget just how bad it was because the Angels took the worst year of it in the trade ($8M for a guy who went 5-for-50 and was released after 18 games).

Where can I get a pair?
