Giants 9th round pick on ESPN2

Giants 9th round pick, Ryan Verdugo of LSU, is pitching on ESPN2 right now.  He had a pretty rough first inning.  He's pretty much a two pitch guy (87-90 mph fastball and slider).

Verdugo

He ended up getting knocked out of the game early. Here’s his line:

Not a good game.

Verdugo

pronounced ver-DOO-go, which is so less cooler than if it were pronouned like the Hitchcock movie Vertigo, is the spitting image of Noah Lowry on the mound.

LSU got screwed on that 8th inning call at 1st. I understand umpires making mistakes, but that wasn’t even a close play and the ump was standing right there.

How about?

How about the Stanford hit yesterday that hit the chalk line beyond the base and yet was called FOUL? That was kind of a stunning development.

I will say that looking up at the high-hopping ball as it bounced over the head of the first baseman’s head the umpire could easily have felt it crossed the base in foul territory, but its hitting the chalk line should have been a wakeup call. I think the umpire called it too soon and almost certainly got it wrong.

re

Yeah, that was a terrible call. I’m glad it didnt end up costing Stanford in that game.
