Mad-Bum
Madison Bumgarner is now ranked 13th on Project Prospect's top prospect rankings
only 4 players from the 07 draft are ahead of him on the list Porcello, Price, LaPorta, and Wieters
Big V was also dropped from the list because of a lack of consistent contact. I am confident he will be the 40+ home run a year guy everyone wants him to be, but on another fanpost, people had him cracking the 2010 opening day roster.
I don't think he will reach the majors until 2012 or mid 2011 at the earliest

Mad Bum also struck out 10 hitters and gave up zero runs in his first career CG tonight. The game was only 7 innings because it was the first in a double header.
The whole “Villalona will reach the show in 2010! No, not till 2012! No, it will be midseason 2011!” routine seems a bit silly at this point. No one has the slightest idea when he’ll be ready for the majors, if ever. He’s a long-term investment who is seriously overmatched in Low A right now. Why even try to project his future this far off?
Bumgarner, on the other hand, should be in the Giants rotation by August 2010, latest.
Plus apparently that HBP he took a week ago did some damage
Angel hasn’t made an appearance since 6/6. And yes, he has a long way to go and at this point could as easily go the way of Joel Guzman as … well, somebody good. I’d assume a good solid 5-6 year development curve to be on the safe, but optimistic, side.
My boy ain't fat, he's just big boned. Big bat, too.
But yeah, yahoo for Bumgarner!
and Timmy II, too.

I agree
It’s impossible to guess what kind of improvement he’s going to make in the offseason.

Just look at Cabreras stats, theres no way anyone would have predicted that kind of quick improvement.
Nice bit of research and a good point
And if anything, AnVil is actually a year ahead of Cabrera in development at the same age. With those who have exceptional natural talent, as AnVil is thought to have, it is sometimes just a matter of gaining some maturity and discipline, and then things click in and the player takes off, such as with Cabrera.
For those without such talent, the learning process can take longer as the players have to really work on improving their weak points and may have to repeat the same level(s) on their way to the majors.
That said, I hope the Giants do not rush AnVil. As another poster said, even in 2011 or 2012, he will still be only 20 or 21 for most of the season…way, way ahead of many other prospects. With the influx of faster moving talent in their farm system the Giants don’t seem to have any need to rush him.

Concerning AnVil...
is anyone else at all concerned with the authenticity of AnVil’s age? I haven’t seen anyone question it at all, and have no reason to except for the recent controversies with Tejada, and questions about the recent Cuban defector’s age, and discrepencies in the past, but I would be crushed if he wasn’t just 17 yrs old right now. are we just hoping it’s baby fat?
I wanted to adopt, but all the good looking babies were taken
I'm not worried.
As I understand it, they actually check these kinds of things now.

FYI
the recent controversy with Tejada wasn’t a recent controversy at all. Along with literally hundreds of others, Tejada was caught up in State Dept.’s get tough visa policy post 9/11. He owned up to his real age with the government in 2002 and has been listed under the new (real) DOB in press guides for both the O’s and Astros for the past 6 years, however his age was typically still listed in accordance with his old, fraudulent age. The only reason the controversy happened this year rather than 6 years ago was that ESPN noticed the discrepancy in this year’s Astros press guide and jumped on him about it during an interview.

i wouldnt count on that - you're talking about a 3rd world nation
they more concerned with trying to survive – a phony BC here or there, not that big a deal to them
Dude
The kid looks YOUNG.
You could never say that about Tejada.
¿Julio is tourist in San Francisco? Harper's Bizarre!
yeah, im not talking about Villalona though, just in general
i think its still going to happen here and there for a while…
The only thing for me… why would he go as young as 16? He could have said 18 if he was 18 (or 21) and get pretty much the exact same interest as he did end up getting.

Not true. They sign them as young as they can in Latin America. 18 makes them less attractive as FA signings.
Like with that Inoa kid that the A’s are rumored to be contenders to sign, they’re saying even if he was 18, he’d still get 1 mill. But he’s 16 and he’s likely to get 4 million. The younger they are, the more development time.
I stand corrected.

Madison Bumgarner
This kid has the makings of an Ace. Hope he succeeds. Is there a chance that if Snyder or Pucetas get promoted to AA that Bumgarner could finish his season pitching for San Jose similar to what Jonathan Sanchez did back in 2005?
I would think so. There’s really no reason to keep him in Augusta for a full season if he is dominating everyone.
Unrelated topic, can anyone find anything on any draft picks we have signed thus far? I’m not willing to wait for BA to update their list.
In a negotiation ploy, complete with heavy salivation by our GM
Brian Sabean got Posey to sign, all right —an autograph.
Sanchez was brought to SJ
specifically for the Cal League playoffs. Officially (because it wasn’t during the regular season) he never pitched in the Cal League. That maybe doesn’t quite express what I mean, but if you look up Sanchez’ minor league record, there’s no mention of a Cal League appearance and no stats from there count on his record.
If Bumgarner isn’t moved up there sooner, it does seem likely they might bring him up for the playoffs. But I wouldn’t be surprised ot see a few post-draft promotions coming in the next few weeks.

Yes, I have followed Sanchez career quite closely. He pitched the 2005 season for Low A Augusta and then was promoted to pitch in the playoffs for Advanced A San Jose. He pitched two outstanding playoff games in 2005 for San Jose then made the successful jump all the way up to AA to begin the 2006 season. Now top that Bummy!
Patience
I agree it is ridiculous to predict when either Mad Bum or AnVil will be in the show. Certainly not by 2010 for either one. We all know lefties usually take a bit longer to reach the show for some reason and AnVil will need at least 3 or 4 more years of seasoning.
Mad bum
How could Alderson be left off this list?
