I remember hearing something on one of the pregame shows about Bochy (or somebody) wanting to break up Cain and Lincecum to give teams different looks instead of back to back flamethrowers.

I heard that too but
That would not make sense in a situation like this, where:
1) the “back-to-back” is happening against two different teams, and
2) putting Misch against Hamels virtually guarantees you of a loss, whereas you have a definite shot at winning both games if you do it the other way around.
I’m not against the concept, but the timing to implement it seems about as bad as possible.

Could have gone in between them as well. The only advantage of plugging Zito in where he was is to rest Cain another day after his strain.
