Hennessy optioned to AAA, Sadler called up

According to sfgiants.com...

The Giants tweaked their bullpen on Wednesday by optioning right-hander Brad Hennessey to Triple-A Fresno and recalling right-hander Billy Sadler from the same club.

Sadler, 26, had excelled in 11 appearances with Fresno, posting a 1.13 ERA as opponents hit only .138 (8-for-58) off him. He also had 24 strikeouts in 16 innings, reflecting the command of his fastball, curveball and changeup that Bochy cited.

I think that it is about time Hennessey got sent down to fix whatever is wrong.  I'm surprised he still had an option left, seems as though nobody on the Giants roster has any.  Sadler has experience as a starter so he can also be a spot stater if needed.  I'm a fan of this move

Sadler was issued jersey No. 34, most recently worn by left-hander Steve Kline, whose uninhibited behavior contrasted with Sadler's polite, subdued nature. Asked if he was worried about acquiring some of Kline's traits, Sadler laughed and said, "I did think about that."

Oh wait never mind, Sadler now has no chance as helping out the ball club.

Sadler will nail Yorvit Torrealba with the new number and this time Yorvit will feel it. I would have called up Hinshaw, but hopefully Sadler will throw strikes. I’ll take either one over Hennessey any day of the week.

Sir Alex Hinshaw is dealing

Billy Sadler was on the 40-man roster while Alex Hinshaw is not may have been a reason why SF promoted Sadler over Hinshaw. Now that Zito in no longer in bullpen Jack Taschner is the only LHP in the pen.

I've always been a Sadler fan

Dynamite stuff, erratic control, the prototypical Giants reliever.

I like Sadler, but the move makes me wonder what’s going on with Threets. when I got the text from a friend that Hennessey had been sent down I immediately asked if Threets came up. Guess the chest muscle is still bothering him.

He has pitched effectively a couple of times this week in Fresno. I’m surprised, too, because there’s an administrative issue at play here. They can only keep him in Fresno so long on a rehab assignment before they have to call him up or expose him to waivers. I’m not sure how long that is, but there is a ticking clock. I wonder if they’re thinking that waiving him from Fresno rather than from SF would be a better way to try to sneak him through and keep him.

My boy ain't fat, he's just big boned. Big bat, too.

I think they can leave a player on a rehab assignment for 20 days before he has to be activated. You maybe right, he may be eaiser to sneak through waivers if he’s in Fresno. They also can work out a trade if someone claims him.

Sounds like Sadler will be pretty okay.

Numbers don’t lie.

Though recall that 34 before Kline was Jesse Foppert…

I always felt Klein was a placeholder for Jessie, anyway. Looks like Jessie is throwing pretty well, so hopefully he will get a September call up.

Weird that Jesse Foppert is back in this organization. Next thing you know, Ryan Jensen will be winning 13 games for us again.

Eagerly awaiting Crazy Crab Bobblehead Night on 7/18.

Given the 2002 lineup

Pat Misch could easily win 13 for us.

Both Espineli and Hinshaw mentioned Foppert when I spoke to them Sunday. Don’t know what to make of that, but they sounded positive. Or maybe it’s just the silly little 19 year old girl left somewhere inside me wishing Foppert would succeed again.

I was very happy when the Giants’ reaquired him. His numbers look pretty good, except for an alarming amount of walks. (11 in 16.1 IP accourding to milb). Looks like he’s coming out of the ‘pen now, which kind of stinks, but maybe it’ll work out for the Giants’ to have a monster ‘pen in the second half with Foppert, Valdez, Taschner, Walker and Wilson. Damn, I forgot Sadler, and Threets. The Giants sure do have a lot of nice power arms,

I’m still rooting for Foppert. He’s from Marin! He goes to same sushi place my family goes to!
