Zito on the airwaves? Uh...maybe not!

Hola McCovenites -

Wanted to clue you all in to a little bit of radio I caught this AM. Here in Sacramento, the greatest lil' cow turd in the world, we have both the honor and privilege of hearing FP Santangelo host the morning sports talk show.

So today, he drops this priceless little gem. Supposedly, FP and the show producer have gotten ahold of the Giants PR people and then Zito for a call-in interview tomorrow morning. They were told that Barry would love to call in and talk with FP and the guys.......that is unless he has a rough night tonight and in that case we'll get to hear Aaron Rowand!

FP said he approached Barry in the locker room during the last homestand and stated that he'd just like to have him in a low-pressure environment...no callers, no hack media, just an honest sit-down discussion about the team's performance to date. FP doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to throw another dude under the bus, but he was about as agitated as I was when retelling this story.

Barry, dude, grow a pair already and face the music. We understand that your massively bloated contract is of no fault of your own, but by saying so explicitly that you'll only give an interview if you're not shelled the night prior?!? You're losing every last bit of compassion from those of us that are being fed this bullshit "GAMER" line.

Like it or not, being a professional athlete involves a little more than serving up an 82 mph fastball and skateboarding home to a lonely bottle of merlot. Feed us some BS about how you've found something with your delivery and are working day and night on fixing it....something....anything. Don't be a douche and set your own parameters for an interview! You're better than that! Or so I thought.

So ya...if you're interested tune into AM 1140.  Typically they have guests like this on around 8:00-9:00 or so.  I believe the radio station streams live across the net so check out the website for KHTK if you're out of the area and want to see if the $125 M man shows up tomorrow.

Peace out!

FP "under the bus" Santangelo

“FP doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy to throw another dude under the bus”

I think you forgot his distrain for steroids users prior to admitting “he made a mistake”

really?

I thought he was a steroid-user apologist before getting caught.

Maybe I should of been more clear….I don’t every remember him throwing a teammate / Giants player under the bus.

My memory is a little hazy, but I can’t ever remember him flaming on other dudes that were part of the fraternity either. If anything he was a supporter of many of those guys….Bonds especially.

Humm...

FP in the morning… I think I’ll pass. But thanks for the info. - Yikes, FP every weekday morning, seriously? No joke?

Yup…seriously…no joke….

If I didn’t get such shitty reception (must be all the bovine methane in the air or somethin’) I’d be tuning into 680 every morning during drive time. Alas…I’m forced to settle for FP and the Kings crazy goons he shares a show with.

Paramaters?

Here are some parameters, earn your paycheck. That is complete weaksauce on Barry’s part, I didn’t expect that from him.

by passionately objective on May 7, 2008 10:04 PM PDT   0 recs

Whatever

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think Barry Zito owes me, FP Santangelo or early morning radio listeners anything. The Giants pay him to pitch and to figure out what the hell he can do to turn things around – doing a sit down with FP Santangelo accomplishes neither of those, so I couldn’t care less.

You can make the argument that he’s also being paid to be a community pillar and the face of the franchise, but unless he’s pitching well, all of that other stuff is just bullshit fluff. Focus on getting better and then worry about showing up for a radio interview.

by KCE on May 7, 2008 10:12 PM PDT   0 recs

Barry

is not a douche. he’s a bro, but not a douche.

FP Santangelo is a douche. He shouldn’t get paid any amount of money for doing anything.

IMO, bros are douchey too.

Jesus! I knew there was some legit FP hate out there…but wow…I’m a little surprised it’s gotten to this level.

Listen..I don’t like the guy either. I’m sick of his “when I used to play” stories too, but he’s buddy buddy with alot of the guys in the clubhouse and I guess that’s why I was so surprised he was willing to call Zito out like he did. That’s all.

Adoptive papa to Omar...so basically I'm screwed.

when did zito earn first-name basis? I hear Barry I think 25, not 126000000

What else am I supposed to listen to for the drive into the office every AM?

The jackasses took away my Air America station a few months back, so ya…I’ve got nothing else to fall back on really. Although I do have to say that listening to that bitch Laura Ingram makes me want to commit Hara-kiri.

I kinda like FP in Rise Guy form. It’s Whitey Gleason that bugs me.

In some parts of Sacramento, KNBR comes in okay, but I really only like to listen to the Kruk or Kuip interview on that morning show.

you can't block the Bocock

by oldjacket on May 8, 2008 8:30 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

KNBR comes in great in the Sacramento area

I’m up in Cameron Park, and listen to Murph and Mac each morning on the way in to work. FP sucks, but the group he’s with has always sucked. So he’s just fitting in.

Oh, and PacBell, you can listen to 1320, the ESPN station. Unfortunately, the morning commute means you’d have to listen to Colin Cowherd. That’s one guy that will make you long for more FP.

another Otis in Sacramento?

I live in the Arden-Arcade area and the KNBR reception comes and goes around there. It sounds fine on 50 East to Folsom though. Oddly, my real name is Otis.

The only person I want listen to less than Colin Cowherd is @#$%ing Grant Napier.

i get KNBR okay here in West Sac

if you have a decent quality radio shouldnt be a problem….used to listen in Redding, too- no prob…...i cant listen to the Mac and Cheese show(aside from kruk or kuip)....one of those idiots wants to talk UCLA all day and the other doesnt have a clue about sports – couple phonies…

Radnich and Bruno half-hour is the best to me….......

by slojoe on May 8, 2008 11:20 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I get perfect reception from my apartment in Natomas…but for some reason either the Germans who engineered my car, or the Mexicans who assembled it, failed to install a radio with reception extending more than a block or so. I once tried getting 680 reception on the Bay Bridge after a game….FAIL !!

hooooooooooooooooly shit

I assume one of you is responsible for this.

Following the release of the Mitchell Report in which he was named by Kirk Radomski as having used Deca-Durabolin, HGH, and testosterone, Santangelo confirmed he abused HGH on two occasions in 1997 and 2000 to rehab from a quadracep and knee injury but denied the other allegations, including telling teammate Adam Piatt that Radomski “will get you what you need.” [1] FP has been seen dancing around the san francisco streets sporting a short skirt and tights singing little mermaid tunes.

Utility Man...

This is pretty impressive however: << Santangelo played every defensive position, plus designated hitter, except for first base, catcher, and pitcher at least once in his career. >>

by Lidocaine on May 8, 2008 10:23 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Eh, big deal...

...pretty much any utility IF who’s also played some OF can say that. Shawon Dunston and “Super Joe” McEwing both played all those plus first, and that’s just off the top of my head.

Now, show me someone who’s played all eight including catcher – that’s impressive.

Shane Halter played all 9 positions in a single game!

Minnesota at Tigers, Oct 1, 2000

Tigers won the game 12-11 with a walk-off single from Hal Morris in his last major league at-bat. Halter pitched to one batter and walked him on a 3-1 pitch.

Halter’s final line:

Barry Zito has been about as stand up as I can imagine any player being regarding his (lack of) performance, especially when you consider all the national press attention he’s received. I’ve been pretty amazed at how brutally honest he’s been about himself, even admitting of trying to live up to the contract and having problems between his ears.

Pretty refreshing in a world where surly athletes say “no comment” when things aren’t going their way.

it doesn’t appear that he’s run away from the press. I suspect he probably just thought the last thing in the world he’d need after a rough start would be spending an hour with FP listening to stories from when he played the game.

2008 Giants: A steaming pile of scrap!

by Goofus on May 8, 2008 4:22 PM PDT   0 recs

I mean I do have to hand it to him that he isn’t being a sore tit about any of this. Nobody here hates him more than I do. But I will forever give him credit for handling his abominations of seasons here with grace.
