BFF, check out this opportunity:
Weekend Writer Wanted
MLB Trade Rumors is looking for another weekend contributor (it is a paid position). Here’s what I’m looking for:
- It’s a regular shift: Sundays from 1-5pm Central Standard Time. So you have to have that chunk of your weekend free every week.
- Blogging experience is a plus, especially if about baseball. If you have a baseball blog, you’ll be able to link to it in your signature.
- Strong spelling and grammar skills – looking for a casual style 100% free of typos and awkward sentences. You have to be able to write a post quickly but without errors and with your own insight.
- Ability to write intelligently about all 30 teams without bias. The goal is for each post to add some value beyond just the facts found in the newspaper article you’re linking to.
- I will give pointers on gathering rumors, but proficiency with RSS feeds is preferred. You’ll have to monitor your email for the entire shift, also.
- Email me at mlbtrweekend@gmail.com explaining your credentials. Unfortunately I won’t be able to reply to all. Thanks.

Are you the one behind this wil or are you just passing it along for me to see?

It’s going to be a challenge proving to them you can write about all 30 teams without bias. Ask them for a mulligan the first time you accidentally blog about trades involving the Los Angeles Evils.

It will look bad that the second job listed on my resume is for a (now defunct) website called Baseball Bias…but hey there I wrote about the Athleticos.

he did maintain an 0.00 ERA in games where he game in out of the bullpen. I mean, he hasn’t given up so much as a hit since he stopped starting! I’d say the guy’s ready!

Bad news and good news
Bad news: It might mean they’re more worried about Matt Cain’s hammy and he needs a couple extra days to recover.
Good news: I have tickets to Saturday afternoon’s game and was scared to death they were going to drop Zito back into the rotation that day. So I’ve got that going for me. Which is nice.

The switch caused the Giant to juggle the rest of their rotation somewhat. Matt Cain remains scheduled to pitch Thursday, although Pat Misch, originally set to pitch Wednesday, will instead start Friday at home against Philadelphia. Tim Lincecum, initially Friday’s starter, will pitch Saturday.

This pitching rotation was arrived at by pulling names out of the hat.
by allfrank on May 6, 2008 3:38 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Probably true.
Yet it’s all right with me because I was not much of a fan of Tim & Cain going back to back night when you have 2 Dookie throwing lefties ( Pasta Arm & Lowry originally, now Pasta Arm & Misch) and an unproven commodity in the other spot of the rotation. This way the ‘pen should only absorb a lot of innings 2-3 night in row most time throw the rotation.

I am a Giants fan. Thus I enjoy my pain. Currently enjoying it more then usual.

The irony
is that Zito probably would have pitched in some game over the weekend if there had been a blowout but the Giants played three tight, one-run contests. Now, the next time there’s a blowout is probably….tomorrow.
Any chance Barry can mop-up for himself?

I don't think this is really a surprise.
Zito was essentially being sent to the bullpen because there was an off-day and his start could be skipped without messing anybody else up. He was likely always going to be coming back to the rotation as soon as possible.
In other news, do you think of Zito every time you have to get those 75 words? It’s a cruel reminder….

my concern is what if the “new” Zito is really the “old” Zito
by wilriv21 on May 6, 2008 3:35 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Then why not put Zito back in a spot that doesn’t fuck up the other 4 pitcher’s in the rotation?
by allfrank on May 6, 2008 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Possibly because they’d rather Zito have a low-pressure return to the rotation, on the road, against a pretty bad team, and in front of 5,000 fans, than on a Saturday afternoon at home against the Phillies lineup with 30,000 extremely disgruntled observers.

I almost think it’s more pressure for him to have to face the Pirates. I mean, if he gets lit up the Phillies, okay, they’re a pretty damn good hitting team. Zito still sucks, but the Phillies beat up a lot of team.
If he gets beat up by the Pirates? Oh dear.

i guess this means Zito's fastball is back up to 88 mph
or his demotion wasn’t really a demotion at all.
I’d also note that the Giants are 14-12 in non-Zito games. that’s a .538 winning percentage. They’re 0-6 when Zito pitches. That’s not a coincidence.
So by all means, put in back in the rotation. At least it will continue to highlight Sabean’s brilliance in bringing the albatross here.

Or just maybe
he will continue to get bombed and they’ll be forced to consider an actual solution rather than just sitting him for a start. Maybe if he’s 0-10? 0-12? ERA over 8? Unfortunately as you point out those losses/blowouts will take a team floating at 500 and put them well underwater.
I had been hoping that the FO had finally come to a rational decision and decided to do something about Zitooooooooo but now it just looks like they wanted to pander to the press and us idjits.
I know Correia’s injury makes a problem but if they really wanted this to work I don’t see why Yabu or somebody from Fresno couldn’t make that next 5-spot start, letting Zitooooooooooo mop up as they initially reported.

This actually appears to be good news
This actually looks quite good. Bruce Bochy had mentioned on his pre-game show Sunday that the Giants might wait until Saturday to start Matt Cain, giving him an extra two days’ rest to heal his strained hamstring. It appears the Giants have decided the strain was so little as to require no extra rest.
This also gives Tim Lincecum an extra day’s rest now, which I don’t think is a bad idea. Tim certainly hasn’t pitched badly his last two starts, but he also hasn’t appeared to be quite as sharp since his 121-pitch career high on April 24th. With Zito being taken out of the rotation temporarily, Tim has now pitched on four days’ rest in his past three consecutive starts.
And as the article mentions, Tim and Matt are now separated in the rotation, which stylistically would seem a good idea.

Zito Needs to speak with Moyer
My favorite part of the article: “He rope-a-dopes you to death," Scherzer said. "I know firsthand, he throws a 74 mile-an-hour change, then backs it up with a 71 mile-an-hour change. He’s cutting it to both sides of the plate at 81 or 82, and his fastball’s about the same velocity</B, but he knows how to pitch. Been doing it a while."

Say What?!?
What the hell is going on here?!? If you’re going to skip his start…than just say so…if you’re going to send him to the pen, then dammit…leave him there to think about what he’s done. Let him work on whatever the hell is problem is so when he comes back to starting games, he’s improved.
What happens when he’s lit up like an f’ing christmas tree again?!? You send him to the pen…er…skip another start…err….Oh to fuck with it…
