I don’t think all of those runs are unearned, I don’t think they’d assume the double play on Castillo’s error.

Victorino should have been out on the error, and then Jenkins’s flyball should have been a third out, not a sac fly. They should all be unearned.

Super duper cyborg mechanics or not, he’s still a 23 year old arm. STOP FUCKING WITH IT.

Stud or Pussy

If the Enchanter is everything we think he is, throwing 122 pitches in a game shouldn’t phase him. He’s just been wild since then. Look back at how many pitches guys like Marichal and Perry threw. It’s ridiculous to think no one in this generation is capable of the same.

by NearestNorwich on May 4, 2008 12:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

the game is not the same as when Marichal and Perry threw.

and Lincecum might someday be capable of that, but you don’t need to try to wring everything you can out of his arm when he’s only 23.

Understood

Take today’s game out of the discussion, though, and this high-stress innings issue is a bigger, Rags issue. Cain has had the same problem this year (and last year at times). The starters throw way too many pitches, and I wonder whether some of that isn’t on the pitching coach.

Timmy isn't looking good right now

Only 941 games until the end of Zito's contract

Seriously.

If we all had 11 fingers, most of us would be fine with this decision. Tendons don’t care about the base-10 system.

There’s nothing magic about 100 pitches. It can be a handy benchmark, but that’s all. If Lincecum has another taxing inning and Bochy still keeps him out there, I’ll rail along with y’all.

by Grant on May 4, 2008 12:33 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't care about the pitch count

It’s because he’s been struggling with command all day and just came off an EXTREMELY stressful and ineffective inning.

I’m glad he managed a 1-2-3 though, good job, Tim.

I agree...

...but except for ‘90s Maddux and turn-of-the-century Pedro, almost every pitcher will have at least one or more stress innings in every start. I don’t think having a stress inning around 90/100 pitches merits an automatic removal for a young pitcher. I know I’m in the minority on this one.

by Grant on May 4, 2008 12:39 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well, it’s just been a stressful game all around and it felt like he was lucky to get out of the last one with only 2 runs allowed. I felt like he was losing effectiveness, judging by his wildness in the last inning and that meant it was a good time to take him out.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

by jponry on May 4, 2008 12:40 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I mostly agree, but I would have done what Bochy did. Start the inning with Lincecum, but have the bullpen ready if he looks gassed.

by Grant on May 4, 2008 12:42 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I guess it’s not too bad since he got the inning done quickly, I just feel like the Giants could do a better job of babying their young arms. Sometimes I feel like they try to get too much out of them, especially in a year where we’re not going to compete for anything.

KOTOR II is not as good as KOTOR I. Granted, some of the controls are better, and there is more stuff, including being able to make upgrade parts and having more saber crystals, but unlike KOTOR, the story is stunted and thrown together in II.

They had to throw it together for the Christmas season. Still very fun though.

My "favorite"

The HK-50 droids are really important early in the story, and then they just go away. No explanation. Just gone.

Plus, some of the characters are just useless. You can use them, but there isn’t really any reason to.

by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on May 4, 2008 1:00 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

And Canderous, the best and most badass character in I, wears a mask the whole game in II.

I was so disappointed when I heard that. IDK if he actually has a substantial part or not though.

Canderous is tough in II, but he is one of the characters I really had to force myself to use. Granted, I usually don’t go to his planet early in the game, so I already have other characters I think are better for the team.

i still don't know how to take this all in

i’m so used to see the Giants make opposing bullpens look this good.

i want to be frustrated that this team can’t muster 1 or 2 more runs, knowing that a lights out bullpen would garner more wins.
Then again, if this bullpen were anything like years past, i wouldn’t even get the opportunity to be frustrated by how close these games are.

it’s so weird how chill I am about these games this year. normally I’d be breaking things and yelling at the computer, but instead I’m just sort of chill.

agreed.

that’s why i’m kind of confused.
maybe it’s because spring training tempered any semblance of optimism i’d have about this season.

Organization White Whale

the Giants prospect I want to succeed the most, EME, showing some power – he hit a HR today. Get hacking EME.

I don't think that a player we have control over is a white whale

I might need to check the metaphor dictionary, though. This Moby Dick stuff is out of my wheelhouse.

Looking at the numbers

Other than Brad Hennessey and the Seven Year Bitch, our pitching staff has been, ya know, kinda decent.

Ruben Rivera: Incompetent oaf, or mad genius?

yeah, as a whole, it’s been quite good. They really drag it down though, all the way down to a 98 ERA+.
