Your All-Star Team?
Just because I'm curious, list the players you're voting for on the ballot. Here are mine:
AL:
1B: Kevin Youkilis--I'm shocked at the lack of quality at AL 1B this year. There's really no one who is worthy of my pick. I had to pick Youkilis or Morneau by default.
2B: Ian Kinsler--on pace for .300/20 HR/140 R/100 RBI/40 SB
SS: Bobby Crosby--Not much to choose from here, either. My vote went to Bobby Crosby for FINALLY staying healthy so far..
3B: Miguel Cabrera--Yes, he doesn't play here anymore--but heck, that's where he's on the ballot. I think he starts tearing it up pretty soon. I'm not going to vote for any Yankee.. that's my rule on All-Star Ballots. They get enough votes already.
C: Joe Mauer--Gets the edge over V-Mart because, well, he's not actually SUPPOSED to hit for power
OF1: Josh Hamilton--Hey, he's on the cover of SI
OF2: Magglio Ordonez--Still a fantastic hitter
OF3: Ichiro Suzuki--Same old Ichiro
DH: Frank Thomas--Should've voted for Big Papi, but I just like Big Frank more
I'm actually kind of surprised by the lack of quality at some of these positions, particularly 1B and SS. Usually I really feel like the people I vote for DESERVE my vote...
NL:
1B: Lance Berkman--Albert Pujols is batting .360 and this is a no-brainer??
2B: Chase Utley--Could win MVP this year. Not doing all that great after that RIDICULOUS start to the year, but hey, it was that good.
SS: Hanley Ramirez--Gets the edge over Miguel Tejada because he can steal a bag, too. Gotta give some props to Tejada for playing so well while under so much scrutiny, though.
3B: Chipper Jones--Another no-brainer. Wow, the NL is really tearing it up this year.
C: Geovany Soto--Sorry, Bengie. This rookie has been crazy good AND he's on my fantasy team.
OF1: Nate McLouth--He'll go WAY downhill, especially in HR/AVG, but his start of the year has been so good it definitely deserves a spot.
OF2: Pat Burrell--Philadelphia bias, and I really wanted to vote for Jason Bay on this one, but I can't bring myself to vote for TWO Pirates..
OF3: Aaron Rowand--My token Giant

Frank Thomas?
Him?
Maybe I haven’t been paying enough attention but I’m pretty sure i could think of quite a few DHs before the Big Hurt.

Vote For Fred
Write in Fred Lewis! I did.
I tried to avoid voting for any Yankees, Red Sox or Cubs players on the principle that they’re already getting way more than they deserve. And I admit to blatant homerism on my own part in voting for Vizquel (and Lewis, for that matter).
I think I went with Morneau, Roberts, Crosby, Blalock, Martinez, Hamilton, Sizemore, Upton and Cust in the AL. I don’t follow the AL very closely.
On the NL I voted Berkman, Uggla (plus a token vote for Durham on one ballot), Vizquel, Jones, B-Money, Ankiel, Rowand, Lewis.

No All Star team could be complete without Rich Aurilia. He’s just been that good…

Same old Ichiro?
Hitting .295?
How about Carlos Quentin, if we’re just going by this year.
And Ortiz over Thomas, of course.

im not much for write-ins, otherwise Freddie and Carlos Quentin would be on it for sure. Not worth bringing a pen to the ballpark though

Chase Utley or Dan Uggla?
808-KNBR your thoughts…
by Ed Jew on May 28, 2008 10:54 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
are you sure?
Utley: .309/.390/.608, 157 OPS+
Uggla: .310/.391/.679, 178 OPS+
Utley is the better defensive player, but I wouldn’t say it isn’t even close.

Well yeah. But still, I think there’s an argument to be made for Uggla.

I’m pretty sure the 2007 All-Star team has already been selected. If memory serves, it happened last year.

the reasons below
AND lets take another look at those numbers when in another 5 weeks. I’ll bet Utley pulls away.

giants
could have multiple all-stars? Bengie, Timmy, Rowand all have legit shots. I can see Rowand getting squeezed because of teams needing a representative.

Vote for Benjie and Aaron
Benjie and Aaron are legitimate contenders and we need to vote and vote often for them. The higher they finish in the fan voting the more pressure will be on Hurdle to pick them.

Getting worked in the balloting
Benjie and Aaron aren’t in the top 7 or so in either position in the balloting, so they’re not getting in that way unless the AT&T faithful go bananas…
you’ve got 4 legitimate Catchers—-McCann, Soto, Molina and Martin for two spots(do they ever carry more?). Soto or Martin will probably win the balloting, so Molina will have to continue hitting at a high clip for a chance. Not sure how he’s viewed from the players and manager’s perspective.
Rowand is highly respected and could squeak in, but will likely get lost in the shuffle and will forsuredly not get voted in by the fans.
At this point, Lincecum’s a shoe-in—-if it keeps up and he get’s a spot, the Giants might miss out on any position players.

All-Stars
I hate voting on a two-month sample size, so I usually vote for who I’d actually like to see. Would I rather see Uggla or Utley? Utley. I mean, sure, if someone is really performing out of this world, like Ryan Ludwick, then he deserves to get in, but I’d almost like to see anyone make it but Pat Burrell, his 156 OPS+ be damned.
Here’s what I got (Thanks i did my job for the template).
1B Lance Berkman
2B Chase Utley
SS Hanley Ramirez
3B Chipper Jones
C Bengie Molina (Geovanny who? Give me BengieTed MolinaWilliams!!!)
OF Ryan Ludwick
OF Nate McLouth
OF Matt Holliday
