The real Open Gameday Thread
It's been a heated battle, but I have a feeling that the Giants will be able to pull one out here.

Gonna make dinner for the kids
Here’s to hoping the game’s on when I’m done.
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
How many threads can we blow through before a pitch is thrown? I’ll be disappointed with anything less than five.
Cooking: What's your specialty?
(Sorry, we’re watching food network during the interim)
Mine is oven cooked pork ribs. I’d prefer to be really good at BBQing them, but I’m still working on my technique.

Yeah
The one drawback of living at my grandma’s house is that I haven’t been able to do any cooking outside of lunchtime hot pockets.

I just made some spareribs in the oven the other day. Dry spice rub with cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper, sugar, and paprika. Quite lovely.
I don’t know if I have a speciality, though. I always like to do new stuff. One of my favorites, though, is Tea-Smoked Duck. It’s time consuming, though, and has the tendancy to destroy woks, so I only make it once a year, for Chinese New Year.
I also make a fine Pacific Rim Hot Pot for Christmas Eve. Broth with coconut milk, ginger, lemongrass, and lots of other stuff, with udon noodles, shrimp, mussels, and halibut.
Tea-Smoked Duck sounds ridiculously good.
Duck is by far the tastiest poultry, but it’s also by far the easiest to screw up.
When I do my ribs, I like a minimalist dry rub of mostly just brown sugar with salt and pepper to taste. I’ll throw in some other stuff, but brown sugar really is almost all you need for an awesome bbq taste.
Dry rubs FTW!

Monday is an off day
maybe we can get a recipe thread going that day. Would enjoy getting some great summer recipes
Spaghetti
if you get trader joe’s vodka sauce, you can make urself a bitchin spaghetti. Simple and unbelievably good. Secret is fresh mushrooms- mmmmmmmm
I’m very good at baking. I make brownies that disappear within minutes.
I make very good pasta puttanesca as well as a red wine mustard chicken dish that everyone loves. Recently I took up making my own pizza, starting with hand tossed dough made from scratch. I made Margherita pizza for dinner Thursday night. It was A+

I still can’t do cakes well. They end up tasting good but they look like crap.

Next time I make pizza I’m using my 3” Springform pans. Mini pizzas! I’m gonna make one pepperoni, one margherita, and one something else, plus maybe a full sized cheese pizza.. I was thinking lemon chicken and zucchini for the third mini. The best thing about the recipe I have is it makes enough dough for two 9” pizzas. I can make 3 mini pizzas and one regular sized one with the dough made in one go.

I’ll have to make some antipasto and other stuff to feed all of you…

I’d invite more people over but the ‘za comes out a little on the small side. I’d have to bake like six of them to feed four people.

The fans at the stadium have it worse off than we do. You can’t even get a decent card game going with two people.
There are two people there? They could barely even draw that many when they were in the World Series.
You can play Gin.

You know
Everytime I’ve watched a Christopher Guest directed mocumentary I’ve found them to be unnecessarily mean-spirited.
I probably just have a bad sample size, though (For Your Consideration & Waiting for Guffman).
Really didn’t enjoy them.

What a coincidence...
I heard Guest hates your work, too.

For Your Consideration was just depressing to me. I didn’t see the funny in that one at all.
Waiting for Guffman wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t good either.

I quite liked A Mighty Wind as well. But This Is Spinal Tap is the undisputed must-see classic. Though Guest didn’t direct that one, I don’t think.
Yeah
Spinal Tap was the reason I specified “Guest directed mockumentaries” because Reiner directed that one and it’s sooooooo good.
Guest did act in it. He was funny.

I just recently saw tap
IDK, i thought it was hilarious for the first hour, then it sorta ran out of steam. But still pretty good. And Guest was just one of the players, I don’t think he directed.
Kuip just said it hasnt rained in an hour and a half but still waiting for a front to come through and tarp was still on the field

That trade,
while still horrible, is mitigated somewhat by the total downward spiral of Bonser and Liriano. But AJDP just for Nathan was still unforgivable.
Liriano had already done more for the Twins before he got hurt than Pierzynski did for the Giants, though.
Yes
don’t get me wrong, it is 10000000000000% indefensible, but it would be even worse if Liriano was still producing like that.
So the Pierzynski trade was a good thing.
Right?

Erm… I guess the best would be when they traded New York for San Francisco.
The worst…? Gee… I, uh, don’t know…

Mentioning the Kevin Mitchel trade reminds me:
I assume y’all know that Chris Brown, the former third baseman, died recently. I work for a company that does online obituaries, including ones for dead celebrities and semi-celebrities. We even have one for Chris Brown. There’s a bit of a problem with it, though – very few messages get posted there that’re actually for the third baseman Chris Brown. Instead, it gets lots of messages from 12-year old girls, thinking it’s for the R&B singer Chris Brown, missing that it’s an obituary, and going on about how they love his songs and wondering if he’d consider dating someone a little younger.
Just wanted to share.
Wow
Evan Longoria and Magglio Ordonez might have just doublehandly kept my fantasy team from getting completely ass-kicked this week.
Prince Fielder, Pat Burrell, and Miguel Cabrera = sad pandas.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
Can we FedEx a T-bone to Prince Fielder?
This vegan thing has gone too far.
He on honey-dew hath fed, and drunk the milk of Paradise.
He needs more bones than that
He’s about ready for half a steer on a Texas Spit
I’d just like to point out that I’m leading the McCovey Chronicles fantasy league by double digits over the second place team. Muahaha.
I’m in a ten team league with some friends. At least 3 of them ignore their teams completely. I’m in third to last place right now, and I can’t explain how a team with Manny Ramirez, Magglio Ordonez, Prince Fielder, Pat Burrell, Miguel Cabrera, and Rick Ankiel can be doing so poorly offensively.
My pitching’s been solid.

Is Cleveland a trading partner for San Francisco?
Cleveland Indians GM Shapiro ready to talk trades. Do the Giants match up with the Indians? I’m sure they could use a shiny reliever and possible a Winn.
Does rainout mean doubleheader tomorrow?
I just looked at schedule real quick and doesnt look like this was our only visit to marlins this year i hate games getting pushed off schedule unless they mean something at end of year
thought they only had a home/home series vs the other divisions
both teams have an off day on Monday but they want to get this game in tonite

My boxscore, apparently from a galaxy far, far away, says that Barry Zito carried a shutout into the thirteenth inning.
But we - in this solar system - know that Zito was never born.
