It's been a heated battle, but I have a feeling that the Giants will be able to pull one out here.

Cooking: What's your specialty?
(Sorry, we’re watching food network during the interim)
Mine is oven cooked pork ribs. I’d prefer to be really good at BBQing them, but I’m still working on my technique.

I just made some spareribs in the oven the other day. Dry spice rub with cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper, sugar, and paprika. Quite lovely.
I don’t know if I have a speciality, though. I always like to do new stuff. One of my favorites, though, is Tea-Smoked Duck. It’s time consuming, though, and has the tendancy to destroy woks, so I only make it once a year, for Chinese New Year.
I also make a fine Pacific Rim Hot Pot for Christmas Eve. Broth with coconut milk, ginger, lemongrass, and lots of other stuff, with udon noodles, shrimp, mussels, and halibut.
by jcb9 on May 24, 2008 6:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Tea-Smoked Duck sounds ridiculously good.
Duck is by far the tastiest poultry, but it’s also by far the easiest to screw up.
When I do my ribs, I like a minimalist dry rub of mostly just brown sugar with salt and pepper to taste. I’ll throw in some other stuff, but brown sugar really is almost all you need for an awesome bbq taste.
Dry rubs FTW!

I’m very good at baking. I make brownies that disappear within minutes.
I make very good pasta puttanesca as well as a red wine mustard chicken dish that everyone loves. Recently I took up making my own pizza, starting with hand tossed dough made from scratch. I made Margherita pizza for dinner Thursday night. It was A+

Next time I make pizza I’m using my 3” Springform pans. Mini pizzas! I’m gonna make one pepperoni, one margherita, and one something else, plus maybe a full sized cheese pizza.. I was thinking lemon chicken and zucchini for the third mini. The best thing about the recipe I have is it makes enough dough for two 9” pizzas. I can make 3 mini pizzas and one regular sized one with the dough made in one go.

That trade,
while still horrible, is mitigated somewhat by the total downward spiral of Bonser and Liriano. But AJDP just for Nathan was still unforgivable.
by bondslegend on May 24, 2008 6:32 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Liriano had already done more for the Twins before he got hurt than Pierzynski did for the Giants, though.
by jcb9 on May 24, 2008 6:33 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes
don’t get me wrong, it is 10000000000000% indefensible, but it would be even worse if Liriano was still producing like that.

Mentioning the Kevin Mitchel trade reminds me:
I assume y’all know that Chris Brown, the former third baseman, died recently. I work for a company that does online obituaries, including ones for dead celebrities and semi-celebrities. We even have one for Chris Brown. There’s a bit of a problem with it, though – very few messages get posted there that’re actually for the third baseman Chris Brown. Instead, it gets lots of messages from 12-year old girls, thinking it’s for the R&B singer Chris Brown, missing that it’s an obituary, and going on about how they love his songs and wondering if he’d consider dating someone a little younger.
Just wanted to share.
by jcb9 on May 24, 2008 6:47 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Oh, and Chris Brown’s obituary mentions that his teammates called him the Tin Man, because he had no heart. His obituary says that. Imagine what folks said about him when they weren’t trying to be nice!
