I think it was the other way around, actually. My recollection is that he lied about his name when he came to the US, claimed to be Manny Mateo and 9 months younger than he really was, but was eventually found out as Merkin.

This was one of the most sucky games I have ever seen. If we can pick up the next two, we’ll be 15-17. It will feel hollow. We coulda, shoulda won this one. It’s easy to blame Wilson, all he did was throw fastballs down the middle and he threw one too many. But the fact is that we had 16 hits and only scored 5 runs. That is what’s pathetic. Please, Giants, no more like this.
