Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

OT: Here we go again.

Not content having wasted time and (more importantly) our tax money on the ridiculous investigation of Barry Bonds for the past 4 years, the US Senate now thinks it needs to investigate the Spygate ordeal .

Are you kidding me? On what ridiculous level does the government think they have a responsibility to waste more time and money on sports? SPORTS, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!  Apparently the bankrupt Social Security system, the war in Iraq, a tax system in dire need of reform, etc. aren't big enough issues to take issue with before an effing game made for OUR ENTERTAINMENT!

Unfortunately...

most US Senate members contracts are similar to Barry Zito’s. It’s a six year “no-trade” :-)

There is a school of thought

That says maybe it’s better they are working on matters of inconsequence.

Well, I don’t see anyone calling for this other than Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA), who is currently suffering from brian cancer and probably is looking for something to do. I would wager that this doesn’t make it past the committee he doesn’t even chair anymore because his party isn’t in the majority. If there is any support among any other members of the senate judiciary committee, please let me know.

Arlen Spectacle

he’s just peeved the Patsies beat the Eagles in that SB. He’s trying to reverse the result. I’m sure after there are millions of taxpayer dollars wasted on an investigation he’ll decide that the charges against the Patriots are “not proven.” What a blowhard.

Bonds stands alone.

While it’s almost completely useless, there are some federal anti-trust issues at stake (my knowledge doesn’t go very far, though, so I’m open to enlightenment), at least as far as baseball has been concerned so it’s not completely COMPLETELY useless. I don’t know if football has the same monopoly stuff going on, but it’s not like there’s NO reason at all for the government to be involved in these things.

Is there a laywer in the house?

Mayor? Anyone?

I seem to remember that it is only baseball that is exempt from the anti-trust..[insert legal word here].

people hate you, but why do they hate you? because the are jealous!

by satyricrash on May 14, 2008 1:52 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You are correct...

...the anti-trust exemption stems from a 1922 Supreme Court decision. No other sports league has it; it was an anti-trust lawsuit that forced the NFL to let the Raiders move to LA.

While that may explain the fact that they legally could intervene,

I don’t see any issues as far as antitrust law goes. The Patriots cheating does nothing to hinder the competetiveness of the CFL, AFL, or the long-gone XFL. This is just ridiculous political bullcrap—a way for these senators to get their names in the paper again.

I certainly don't disagree

Like I said, I still dismiss this stuff as pretty much total crap. But there is another side to the coin, however small and dubious that side is.

As a P.S.

When crap like this happens, I feel like it will be things like this that people laugh over when they are reading in history books about the United States when it eventually falls as the dominant world power…

“Really? As the economy struggled and their socialist programs fell apart, this is what they were concerned about? No wonder Iran nuked the crap out of them.”

Now I really wish I was still in my international relations class because my prof would LOL at this.
