9 Positions, 1 Grand Slam - One Game?
Quick Preview
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Buster Posey was all over the field for Florida State.
The Seminoles catcher played all nine defensive positions -- and hit a grand slam -- in a 10-0 seven-inning victory over Savannah State on Monday.
Seriously, what the heck is his coach thinking? Just showcasing him for the draft?
Anyway, while I am duly impressed, this doesn't change my thinking about Posey. His value comes mostly from being able to play catcher. If he were an infielder, the versatility might change things, but not behind the plate...unless he's not going to stay behind the plate, at which point I wouldn't take him at #5 overall.
Still, though you lot would want to know.

well he used to play ss before you got moved to catcher. I heard that he may even still be capable of playing the position.

If we got Posey, we’d have to keep him FAR AWAY from Lou Seal.

+1
i have had this thought in passing before, and i think the possibilities for cleverness on these boards would be too tremendous to ignore the guy if he falls to us.

If he wants to be popular then he’ll have to like the things everyone else likes.

Wait...
So that’s why I’m not popular?
Man, and I thought it was the smell. Well, that’s a relief.

Buster Posey
was busting a pose throughout the diamond. And yes he is supposed to be a decent pitcher.
Brute, let one of the four teams drafting before the Giants select him and have another player fall to the Giants.

His ability to play CF just raised his draft status 100% in the eyes of Sabes!

My first thought...
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —Buster Posey was all over the field for Florida State. The Seminoles catcher played all nine defensive positions - and hit a grand slam - in a 10-0 seven-inning victory over Savannah State on Monday.
When I first saw this, I thought you meant he played all the same positions at the same time! I’m thinking, “DAYum, that’s freaking impressive!”

Interviewed after the game, he chomped a carrot and asked “Ehhh, what’s up, doc?”

He was clearly involved in plays at Catcher and Pitcher, and probably 1st base… but did the article mention if he made any catches or throws from the other 6 positions? The whole thing seems really silly to me.

I thought...
He only made one PO at any position but Pitcher and Catcher. I was tired at 4 AM when watching ESPN, so, I don’t know if I’m remembering correctly. I think that this game was fantastic though. Really impressive. However, still only a #5 or later pick. (so, that means, that if he is available at 5, and so is Smoak, then take Smoak.)

I could probably play all positions and hit a GS in a little league game too...
I think the level of competition needs to be considered here.

I'm not sure where I implied he was playing in a little league game.
Can you help me find it?

Well, I dont know how fantastic a baseball program Savannah State is or isn't -
But there is so much talent disparity in college sports that it is quite possible the opposing team was constructed of guys like you and I. I could have probably played walk on baseball at a lot of schools, but that doesn’t mean I would present any sort of competition for a div 1 team w/ a fast track Major Leaguer on the roster.
