Quick question, and I'm trying not to be snarky about it:

Is Barry Zito the most untradeable player in the history of professional sports? I'm probably missing someone like "Gypsy Curse" Jenkins from the 1889 Superbas, but it seems likely that Zito has a good case.

I think

the most untradable player would be Jason Jennings… He sucks and is injury prone… but then again.. Jennings isn’t making ~18 million this season… so maybe you’re right.

Just stopping by to say hi!

i’ll take 3 Jennings before I take one Zito.

Derin McMains had five fingers, but he only used three.

Looking for a solid performance by Zito today

Hold the Astros at bay and Giants tattoo Roy Oswalt.

Meanwhile, down on the farm Big V goes yard today and Bummy has another fine pitching performance.

by wilriv21 on May 12, 2008 6:11 PM PDT reply actions

I'm not sure if he's the most untradeable in history

But he’s probably the most untradeable now. Giambi may have been extremely untradeable a couple of years ago.

Zito’s performance over the past season-plus has not warranted the current annual rates, let alone the escalating rates of the future.

But I’m always hoping to be proven wrong. Prove me wrong, Zito!

Barry Zito,

and I’m being 1000% serious here, will go down as the worst free agent signing in the history of professional sports. Some of it isn’t his fault- this team is terrible, which makes his record look worse and yada yada, but he is also not very good any more.

I defy one of you to find a signing that is worse than this one. Granted, it’s only 1 1/5 years into it, but when you take into account the money he’s been paid, it’s pretty terrible.

I think you mean Napoleon McCallum:

In the Raiders’ opening game of the 1994 season, a September 5 date on Monday Night Football at the San Francisco 49ers, McCallum’s career would be ended prematurely when 49ers linebacker Ken Norton Jr. twisted him to the ground. McCallum’s cleat stuck in the ground, forcing his knee into a horrible dislocation. Norton lay pinned underneath a motionless McCallum for a couple of minutes while trainers attended to McCallum.

McCallum suffered a complete hyperextension of his left knee, almost to a right angle. He suffered a ruptured artery in his left knee, and tore three ligaments, tore the calf and hamstring from the bone, and suffered nerve damage in the knee.

Speed, defense... and an almost fanatical devotion to getting picked off.

New rule

Once you get to two strikes, a batter is only allowed to foul off two pitches. Foul off a third one, and it’s automatic strike three. This would help the Giants immensely, since they already bat and pitch as if this rule was in effect.

That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more!
