Dan Johnson DFA'd
As the title says, Dan Johnson was designated today by the A's. We're probably in on him especially since we were scouting him during ST (I think so, anyway) and since the Almighty Sabean declared he was looking for a 1B that wasn't a joke (yes, I know Ortmeier just hit a walkoff double). He'd be a great fit for us especially since he's kinda crappy at the moment so we can get him for nothing. He would also have a good oppurtunity to get a lot of time in with us given our current situation at 1st. A platoon with Ort and Johnson offers us some hope, as they're both youngish. That's a step for us. It'd make me very happy if we took him. I just want to see something other than Aurilia constantly trying to muscle up and hit something out of the infield. It's pathetic. Anywhoooo...

Perhaps for Rajai Davis?
Given Bochy's reaction to the Roberts injury, by going with Lewis, would the Giants trade Rajai to the A's for Johnson?

According to Henry Schulman
the Giants aren't interested.
Why? I have no idea.

Which is better: Chicago, New York, or California style Pizza?
Chicago for me.
Deep Dish FTW!

All about mood
if you want a meal in a slice, go Chicago. If you want restrained flavors and crispy crust, go NY. How's that answer for an election year?

To be truly evenhanded in this election year...
...you should really praise Arizona style pizza as well as Chicago and NY.
However, I have no idea what would constitute AZ style pizza. Topped with barbecued javelina and nopalitos, maybe?

CA pizza?
Didn't know CA had their own style. Without a doubt, Chicago is the way to go. Nothing beats a good deep dish.
Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue...

CA Pizza
Is essentially "alternative pizza." I believe it was created and possibly coined by Wolfgang Puck, and just has to do with putting non-classic ingredients on a pizza.
California Pizza Kitchen, and their famous BBQ Chicken Pizza (which uses BBQ sauce instead of a tomato based pizza sauce) is probably the most well known example.

So Cheese Board Pizza / Arizmendi's would be California? Cause that's good stuff.

clams? goat cheese? roasted butternut squash?
Those things are all tasty, but not on pizza.
by natteringnabob on Apr 10, 2008 4:30 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I haven't had clams
But the other things are absolutely tasty on pizza.
Give it a shot. It's good.

I have, thanks.
I've also had pizza in Japan, featuring their favorite combo, corn and seaweed.

Uck
Corn off the cob is gross.
I bet clam pizza is yummy. But it has to be mostly clams and sauce. None of that dough or cheese crap.

corn
at Pizza Hut Germany "The American Way to Pizza" reads the window, Corn is a seemingly ubiquitous pizza topping option. standard slices ready for by the slice purchase: you got cheese, tuna, Veggie (with corn), and i guess Pepperoni... but i seriously can't remember know. def not a lot of meatmeatmeat and some meat pizza.

Zachary's in Berkeley has some pretty kickass deep dish 'za. Too bad I loathe that town.

Deep dish chicken, pesto and garlic?
It gets my vote.

try little star or patxi's
Haven't tried Little Star but it's suppposed to be as good as Zach's.
Patxi's is on Hayes St. and was supposedly started by someone who used to work at Zachary's. IT's mighty tasty although not quite as good as Zachary's. There's one in Palo Alto by Stanfurd too. They have soy cheese if you have to bribe vegans/etc. to go with you.
Also, the original Zachary's is technically in Oakland, if that helps at all.

If ever in Sacramento....
gotta eat at Zelda's. Great pie with an unusual crust, its the only Chicago style pizza I'll eat

Frankly if it's pizza, I'll eat it. It's bread. Cheese. Tomato sauce. All things that are important to life.

Giants in active trade discussions with who and for what?
• The Giants are looking for a left-handed hitting first baseman and are active in trade discussions, but club officials said they have no interest in Dan Johnson, whom the A's designated for assignment.
http://www.mercurynews.com/giantsheadlines/ci_8874313
I wonder who Sabean is in discussions with - Angels(Kotchman), Braves(Thorman), Reds(Dunn), Nationals(Johnson or Young)? What is Sabean offering up?
by wilriv21 on Apr 10, 2008 11:41 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Perhaps Anaheim?
Methinks Sabean is looking southward right now, as I heard talk while in SoCal over the weekend that the Angels were very interested in Sanchez's next start.

where did you hear such scandalous talk?
by wilriv21 on Apr 10, 2008 12:21 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would think
Sanchez could bring back a boatload of talent. Then Misch can slide nicley into the fith spot in the rotation.
by tyrannoman on Apr 10, 2008 1:29 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
A boatload?
This team needs an aircraft carrier-load, not a boatload. Let's not encourage Brain to trade for Mo Vaughn and Joe Lahoud. Hold the diamonds and trade the coal.
I can't believe the Angles would give up Kotchman just for Sanchez. Nick Johnson is almost 30 so I don't think I see the point of that.
Aaron Boone is on Washington's roster, so maybe that's who Brain is eyeballing.

Possibly Pittsburgh(LaRoche), Texas(Salty),St Louis(Duncan)?

Mariano Duncan?
Dave LaRoche?
Gary "Salty" Thomasson?
Super.

with an-vil at 3B
Benjie Molina at C, and Mo Vaughn at 1B, the lineup would certainly be anchored solidly...the whole team speed thing would be right out the window, of course...

Yes, but imagine the cost of retro fitting those three structures if the earthquake code changes.
The team would have to try and raise a bond measure again.

For Wood...???
Not sure how I'd feel if it was a Sanchez for Brandon Wood trade...nagging feeling that Wood might be Toad Linden in disguise.
What about Sanchez for Blalock and one of the Rangers' young catchers Think the Giants would be willing to take on the extra $$ for this year?

There's potential for a brief IF of Wood, Bocock, Johnson. Just got to find a 2B with a dick reference - open to all suggestions....

Blalock= do not want.

Away- .244/.302/.399
vs. RHP- .291/.357/.503
vs. LHP- .227/.283/.351
But I'd like Taylor Teagarden, though. That'd be awfully nice.

Thorman
I can't imagine we'd be interested in Thorman given that we let him pass through waivers a couple of weeks ago. Although that does sound very Sabean, let a guy pass through waivers, then trade something for him 2 weeks later!
